      @@basedbane787Because all arts draw throws from the same human biomechanics, not because they draw it from judo (except merely judo based e.g. sambo, bjj)

    I just got my yellow belt in Judo. Mind you, I've only been a judoka for about 11 months at this point. Being promoted opened my eyes to how not only the correct technique matters, but timing and setup matter just as much.

    Where I train in Japan, half (yes, half) of my opponents are lefties only using uchi mata. I want to conquer this kenka yotsu game so bad. They annoy me, because I know what they are going to do, but they are able to do it anyway.
    Now, I know some ways to block them, but I need to find a way to attack too ! This video helps me a lot with that. I got a lot of ideas and I will try to implement them this year.
    Thank you !

    Crazy that something so simple is not taught at the basic level. I learned a ton of throws and have a great arsenal but there was never an emphasis on context/setups.

    I just took my 4 year old to his first class of judo.. just a practice class to see if he likes it. He seemed to like it, and it's got me in the spirit of wanting to do it again, but I'm so out of shape.
    Do you have any tips/workouts you do to get into shape for judo? Maybe a video on fitness for judo?

    • @flyhighsun1833
      @flyhighsun1833 Год назад +1

      Judo will make you strong and fit. Start doing the Judo that interests you and as you become more committed, you'll be drawn to improve your fitness in other ways to improve your Judo. If it's Judo that interests you and your son is also doing it, I recommend starting it too and using that as motivation to get more in shape. A good martial arts class will involve an element of strength and conditioning in their daily practice. You almost can't do Judo for any length of time and not also get fit.
      Good luck. Don't accept excuses. 99% of it is in the mind.

      @@flyhighsun1833 gotcha. But is there specific exercises that I can do to keep myself in shape as I wait to get back into judo? For example, is cardio/running good for stamina in randori? Are quick bursts of weight lifting recommend for agility? Etc..? Thanks

    • @flyhighsun1833
      @flyhighsun1833 Год назад +1

      @@Iesous27 Good question.
      Sports come with long term physiological adaptations so an elite Judoka will have a different body type to an elite sprinter, for example, because they're asking their bodies to do different things.
      From a beginner's perspective, you can't go wrong with some form of cardio-vascular exercise (walking, running, cycling, swimming) and some form of resistance training (weight lifting, calisthenics). This will definitely prepare you to begin martial arts training if you put enough time in to see results.
      Your current fitness level and weight/BMI will determine which methods of exercise are best for you. If you're heavier I recommend swimming/walking, followed by cycling, followed by running in that order. I also recommend using weights as the method of resistance training, particularly if you're on the heavier side. Calisthenics are good but you need to already have a level of strength acquired if you're going to do them when you're particularly heavy.
      Exercise alone will not lose you weight unless you're eating in a deficit so if you do want to lose weight, I recommend you research calorie deficits and realistic weight loss targets.
      Hope that helps dude. I think you should don the Gi and head down there ASAP but if you'd prefer to do it this way, I can understand that too.
      Discipline is the ultimate determiner of long term success. Train your mind alongside your body and you will see profound results.
      Best of luck :))
