George Best was a renowned party animal, he is credited with saying ""I spent a lot of money on booze, birds and fast cars. The rest I just squandered.""

He also told the story about when he was in a relationship with a Miss World. He had had a big win at the races, so they were back in the hotel drinking champagne. They ordered another bottle. The porter brought it to the room. Miss World was lying naked in the bed, surrounded by £5 notes and empty champagne bottles. The porter looked around and said ‘George, where did it all go wrong?’.

I live probably 200m away from a stadium and we can hear them louder than our TV sometimes. But I think the best moment was when there was a football game when it snowed and we woke up the next morning to a pint of cider on top o our snowman's head.

The "Park, Park, wherever you may be", chant was directed at Ji-Sung Park, I believe. He's a South Korean player. Later on in that chant they refer to "scouse" which refers to the Livepool accent / dialect, or someone / something from Liverpool, so they're basically having a dig at Ji-Sung as well as Liverpool.

Common chant when any team is getting battered

  • @stephenpodeschi6052

We say if you are a true supporter you keep to your team win, lose, draw , gain a trophy or get relegated. Most supporters choose a team young
either through family , the town/city you live in/near or something else. There are other reasons and nuances as you get older, but usually you
stick by your first choice for better or for worse a bit like marriage with a lower divorce rate , but higher therapy sessions in the pub....lol

This is the life any fan in the UK but let me also tell that they are all leting off steam once a week at the game. There are many more teams that have there own anthem and everyone heeds to learn it at a game. Yes there are several teams that have a return chant once they get going and it is all great fun when you are at a game, this adds to all the entertainment. This has been going on for about 100 years, and will continue with this well into the future. You are right about have a chant agains there own team. FOOTBALL is by far the greatest sport in the world, both in partsipation and in spectators. America foot ball is not even in the top 20.

My own club, Aston Villa were pretending to score a goal at Anfield in that one clip. If you're a football fan you definitively need a thick skin, a sense of perspective and a self-deprecating sense of humour, but never forget, even the current successful clubs get beaten once in awhile. You just have to grin and bear it with a red face and enjoy a beer after the game.

I think that Americans are too positive and confident to chant like us. I have seen them try and it's always about them winning whereas in the UK we chant about how shit something is, it's quite self deprecating, something that is natural to a Brit, self deprecation is a national trait :)

I'm not a football fan at all (other than the big titles) but there's something about chants that really lifts my spirits and brings me a smile! I've been dragged along to a few matches over the years and although I have no real interest in the game, I find myself chanting along with everyone for a bit of fun.

There’s true genius in some of these. And spontaneity. A couple of decades ago Ipswich we’re getting hammered 9-0 at Old Trafford, and the Man U chant was: you’re going down, going down, going downnn! Without hesitating, the Ipswich fans came back with: so are we, so are we, so are weeeee.

Everyone is fair game -' you eat dogs where you come from but you could be a Scouser (someone from Liverpool) eating rats in his council flat'. Equal opportunity insults. Lots of the chants are against themselves, like your team can't be that good - you're only winning by 4 to nil.
It is not like this during cricket, chaps.

I think the UK is less dominated by a single team sport than anywhere in Europe apart from Ireland. In the last few years we got to the final of Euro 2020, semi-final of 2018 world cup, semi-final of T20 cricket world cup + final previous time, lost the final of last rugby union world cup, think we did ok at rugby league WC. We're amongst the top nations in women's football, both rugby codes, cricket, netball and hockey as well.
Ireland has hurling and Gaelic football. France play rugby union well, Italy less so. Don't think Spain, Germany, Russia etc. even have professional leagues for another team sport.
There may be ice hockey in northern countries, but I think basketball can only manage a Europe wide league
