  • Richmond Town Square or better known as the Richmond Mall was opened in September 1966 at the northeast corner of Richmond and Wilson Mills Roads in Richmond Heights, Ohio. With three anchor tenants and over 90 specialty stores at its peak, it was one of the most popular shopping destinations in Northeast Ohio. In this video we take a deep dive into the mall's history until its closure on May 16, 2021.

My first job as a young scrapping 17 year old boy was at Villa Pizza in the food court. Worked for two other stores in the mall over the years as well. Was also apart of the first employee group and launch of the Ruby Tuesdays connected to the mall in 2000. I miss those days.

I will miss Richmond mall. So many beautiful memories shopping there with my grandma. We actually shopped there in 2017 not long before she passed away. I will miss driving from akron to Cleveland to take my granny shopping. All of my favorite malls are gone. Chapel hill, Randell park, severance mall. I personally like Richmond mall layout before they remodeled it. I enjoyed eating at the harvest house next to Woolworths!!

Well done history of an important development in the area at the time. I was 12 in 1966 when it opened and lived 1/4 mile from Richmond Mall in Lyndhurst, so this really brings back memories! The mall was like our playground as kids, it was the place to meet and have fun! Saw many many movies there, bought 45's and albums at Record Rendezvous and Penny's, greaser clothes at Bill's Clothes, corn beef sandwiches at Diamond's, Woolworth's lunch counter, La Petite Cafe, the coin shop on the 2nd floor mezzanine, and Regal shoes! The original fountain was awesome, the view from the mezzanine on a busy Saturday was tremendous., what a place! To think that I have witnessed the entire life cycle of a mall makes me feel well, old 😄

Back in the 70's, my mom would drop us off there just about every Saturday....all our friends hung out there, it was a blast. We lived about a mile away and would walk or ride our bikes to the mall all the time, everyone shopped there, it was a big deal and a huge part of my childhood....The Arcade was the place to be for my friends and I, played Space Invaders for the first time etc....Sad seeing it end now......Thank you for the video!

Keep making more content like this, it is amazing and very entertaining! To me, at least. Also, thanks for the credit through 7:49 to 8:09! Keep up the great work!

My father was lead architect for Glaser and Marotta for several years in the 60's. I was married in '67 and received a silver water pitcher from the Marottas. I had purchased my wedding dress at the J.C. Penny store in Richmond Mall! Loads of memories in this video for me. Thank you!

While malls like this are nostalgic to my and maybe my parents’ generation, they really were unsustainable blots on the landscape as part of 1960s sprawl. Goes to show you how more resilient classic “main street” style development is over modern car-centric suburbia
