One time I went to Cheesecake Factory with my best friend (we go very often) now this is important to the story. Despite my love for Cheesecake Factory I’m not the biggest fan of cheesecake. So I never really order dessert. But we had this waiter who I swear was the hottest man I’ve ever seen. He had jet black hair and shining blue eyes. He asked us if we wanted dessert, and I didn’t say yes but I didn’t say no. He then gets eye level with me and looked at me the whole time while giving the best monologue about what cheesecakes they had. The best pitch ever to the point where I ordered cheesecake. I’ll never forget him.

I worked at Jimmy John’s when I was 18. First job other than babysitting. Anyways one day a lady ordered a sandwich online. You can customize the hell out of your sandwich that way because there are buttons for “extra peppers” or “less mayo” etc. This lady pushed “extra tomatoes” SIX TIMES for a 6” sub. We were like ?? Okay and I watched my coworker put - no less than - SIXTEEN tomato slices on her sandwich just as a joke. We sent it out for delivery and she CALLED THE STORE complaining that her “sandwich was too wet and there weren’t enough tomatoes on it”. Funniest story I ever heard because lady??? 16 tomatoes are pretty wet

So you put the plate down, then try to awkwardly rotate it which puts you like *right* in their personal space 🤣😬

So I worked at JCPenney for my first job at 16 years old. One day, as I was cleaning out fitting rooms, I found a *pew pew* that was definitely like loaded and everything, and so I picked it up ever so carefully and put it in our safe, contacted my manager, and then like 10 minutes later, a cop walks in and says they forgot their pew pew. It was one of the scariest work days ever, my mind was RACING over the possibilities. I also wondered if the cop got in trouble for that or not. 😂

After we called the cops, I was at the front of the store when the guy came back and RAN towards the dressing room after he realized his mistake. The best part was the state troopers having to come in to take it, because the guy’s carry license was expired. That, and probably the fact that he forgot an actual firearm in a dressing room I guess…

This boosts my spirits about looking for another job after almost a whole year of giving up. So thank you, Garrett💖✨
My 1st job was for this Chinese place I loved eating at. One of the funniest parts was I was working a double shift one time, one of the owners did NOT like me (she seemed a little fat phobic) but she told me I could “take a break and eat something” so I thought I could have food from the buffet (since we did that at night shifts anyway). So I take a plate, I eat in the back and she comes in asking me “WHAT ARE YOU DOING??” I tell her “I’m on my lunch break…?” She tells me “why are you eating the food? I meant like going out to take your own lunch w/ your own money 🤦🏻‍♀️,” she sighs in a disappointing way and tells me to just finish up and leave for my break. I’ve never felt so awkward and unwanted before lmao. Ended up quitting to do Office work in a different city w a family member. Til this day, her brother (another owner of the place) keeps asking me to come back n work for them haha.

This resulted in me literally dropping a milkshake on a baby. Large strawberry milkshake. Face down. On a baby’s head. Absolutely mortifying. The poor thing was blinking incessantly and was in shock. My first job was at a grocery store. Within three months I was having nightmares about the groceries coming down the conveyor belt, but the last straw was the manager telling me he was 'proud of me' after he did a little inspection of the bathrooms I had just cleaned and found them to be satisfactory. I don't know what it was about that that made me nope out, but that was it for me. Thrived at the fabric store, that was much more my speed. Apparently I respond better to the manager calling me 'just some idiot who works here' than to positive reinforcement.

First ever job was in 2007, I was 15 at the local Denny's. I was in way over my head, prepared with so little social experience and plenty of anxiety. As a 5'2" socially awkward emo kid, my security was further compromised when I was told I needed to clip my bangs out of my face to be presentable to customers. Denny's staff had no time to train me, and I was SOOOO green. They sent me to a back room unsupervised to walk around in circles with a tray to practice keeping drinks from spilling. I did this for 20 minutes one day and only that one day. My skill didn't really improve before I was thrown into the next task--waiting tables. The first time I actually served a customer, I was being spotted by a seasoned employee. It was the first time I was properly supervised, and the pressure was on. I took the order of the two women and it went well enough. When I brought the two ladies their meals and began setting the table, still spotted by my somewhat judgemental supervisor, the customer's ranch cup slid off the trey, a scene that instantly became slow-motion as it tipped upside down in mid air. Below the falling cup, I could see the woman's foot was sticking out from beneath the table, her black dress shoe directly beneath the descending threat. No one spoke. No one moved. The cup clapped the shoe where the upper part of the toebox met the laces (yes, I looked up shoe anatomy for this), and I could see the ranch sauce begin to seep in between the laces. The cup stayed in place, miraculously, and the victim moved to survey the crime scene. I of course apologized extensively. The customers said nothing. My coworker instructed me to "Clean it up." I ran back to the kitchen to grab a wet rag and back out to the table where the three remained completely silent as I wiped down the woman's shoe. The social dynamic bolstered the experience, as I already had been skeptical of how prepared I was for waiting tables, and was then psychoanalyzing my situation while I literally cleaned the shoe of a woman who had yet to acknowledge my existence once. I felt less than a peasant.
The following day I went in; a Saturday morning. Upon arrival to work, I was instructed to perform host duties. I let my coworker know that I'd never trained as a host, to which she said, "Well, you're gonna learn," and left me to my own devices at the front podium as the morning weekend breakfast rush flooded in. I had no idea what I was doing, I was extremely anxious and unprepared. (Side note, I seated my middle school choir teacher that morning, which was neat! She was a very sweet woman who really loved Elvis and that's all we sung until she introduced The Eagles. lmao) By 9AM, I was brought to the kitchen and fired for how incompetent I was. First job, first firing, all in a matter of 3 weeks. I asked what I was supposed to do next, because my only way home was scheduled for when my shift ended. I was told to just finish my shift... even though I had just been fired??? Salt in the wound! But the entire working experience was new and all I had was the guidance of those around me, so I swallowed my tears, disassociated, and finished my shift. I was so broken for the rest of that shift. I remember deeply contemplating how I was set up to fail and how I couldn't keep a job, and how overall awful the whole ordeal was.
HOWEVER, I've grown a lot since then, and if anyone's young and reading this, these kinds of experiences may happen, but it is NOT like this at every job, and it's certainly not every staff that's like this. There are so many places where your coworkers properly train you and answer your questions and HELP you learn. Don't give up! I know now that I wasn't the only problem in this situation, but that a diner's training/organization can also be largely flawed. I learned how to better adapt and absorb information at future jobs and didn't run into same degree of issues anywhere else I've worked. [: If you have a bad experience, don't let yourself believe that it's all there is out there. Sometimes we just need experience or to grow, and sometimes the job is the wrong fit. There are much better opportunities and environments out there to help support you as a successful employee. Don't give up!

I work at Red Robin as a server and I can confirm that the POS system is a universal angry machine. And as a server, I loved hearing your stories because I can relate so much! Like I also get SO scared when I see a baby and I just hand everything to a parent so I don’t accidentally drop something on a baby

Pausing the video (and stopping my vacuuming) to say yes, life should be 300 years long, I feel so seen watching these videos bc. this is exactly how my brain works, and secondly it’s a hand vacuum cleaner so I’m literally vacuuming my bookshelves rn. This video getting me through it 👌

My first job was teaching rough diamond grading at a diamond cutting school-it was very intimidating at first being upfront multi-millionaires as an 18 year old trying to not only teach the skill but have them respect me. Ended up helping my speech skills a lot and made me more confident.

I started working in the 5th grade when my mom bought a rundown retail plant nursery just outside of our tiny, rural, unincorporated community in NW Oregon.
I hated for pretty much the entire time I worked there, but I did end up developing a knowledge of plants in general & of various particular kinds of plants that eventually surpassed that of my mother's & I eventually cultivated a great passion for ethnobotanical plant species, permaculture, & sustainable agriculture.
I also discovered my natural talent for healing sick plants & came away with several useful skills.
