Big Sur is awesome, the lighthouse there is the only 100 percent fully loaded with all of the original parts in the US. Love it and you too! Keep up the great work.

In the 80s and 90s, when I lived in Silicon Valley, I used to cruise it all the time. It snowed there once, and I have pictures of the snow-capped mountains descending into the ocean. I ate at Nepenthe's, Ventana Inn, Lucia's, and the restaurants at Rocky Point and Pacific Valley. I camped with Stanford Outing Club at Sykes Hot Springs, and climbed Junipero Serra Peak. Back then, they used to allow people to soak in Eselen Hot Springs from 1am to 5am for $5; I did that a couple times. I even got to spend a weekend there with my boyfriend.
Oh, for the good old days!

Please note that drones are prohibited from flying below 1000 feet on the coast of Big Sur and at times below 2000 feet. Most areas in Monterey Bay are ok to fly in with or without a permit.

Did you book your hotel in advance in Monterey or just tried to look for one when you got there?
Law enforcement at big sur reportedly was seen doing drugs and then after scaring children at the camp sites

Big Sur is not a good weekend road trip. Very narrow roads and tiny parking lots. But if you do your research beforehand there are other hikes and restaurants. Nepenthe is a great restaurant. But not on a weekend. Pfeiifer beach is nor the best. Sand dollar beach is a better bet, especially at low tide and near sunset. But the purple sands of pfeiffer beach are pretty cool. But go midweek. People live down that road so they can’t allow traffic jams. I’m sure you saw the homes. But it’s beautiful. Plan to camp there. It’s epic camping in the redwoods. Or rent a cabin. They aren’t terribly expensive if you look on Big Sur chamber of commerce.
