I just recently found out that Luther got the main idea of this song from Psalm 46 - this psalm has been reminding me of God's faithfulness throughout these troubling times. He indeed is a stronghold we can find strength and refuge.
1/4/23 Thanks for posting this. I love the updated background music to this incredibly timeless hymn. Oh may God help me and many more souls find God's grace to enter into true saving belief in Jesus our mighty fortress.
Beth, this faith is a gift of God lest anyone should boast. Being from Him and through Him alone, not us, brings glory to Him alone. I was so encouraged this morning in my study of I Chronicles 17 and King David's realization of the sovereignty of God working in his life.

Martin Luther's magnificent battle hymn of the Reformation. These immortal lyrics have helped every believer who has ever trusted in them. Wonderful and respectful rendition of a TRUE, Anthem of the Faith.
A mighty fortress is our God a bulwark never failing Our helper He amidst the flood of mortd ills prevailing For still our ancient foe doth seek to work us woe His craft and power are great and armed with cruel hate On earth is not His equal

But they lost and he escaped and went to Germany where the first translation of the Bible was made available to common believers. Amazing is our God.

Be blessed today all you military families and soldiers continually sacrificing and fighting to defend our freedom and protect our liberty. We owe you a debt we can never repay.
Wonderful arrangement, powerfully sung and played. It's faithful to the hymn, yet the modern chorus is a great addition. I love many many hymns, but A Mighty Fortress had not been among my favorites -- until now, since this rendition really brought it to life for me. It's jarring to hear so many words about spiritual warfare, such as "our ancient foe" and "the prince of darkness grim" but the chorus reinforces that even "though this world with demons filled should threaten to undo us" ultimately it's God our Mighty Fortress and Rock who will prevail,

Luther: Nailed it!
Truly the LORD Jesus Christ is our KING OF Glory. To HIM be praises forever and ever
"No weapon forged against you will
prevail, and you will refute every
tongue that accuses you. This is
the heritage of the servants of
the Lord, and this is their
vindication from Me",
declares the Lord.
{Isaiah 54:17}
How oft in the conflict,
When pressed by the foe,
I have fled to my Refuge,
And breathed out my woe;
How often when trials,
Like sea billows roll,
Have I hidden in Thee,
Thou Rock of my soul.
