    The ending of Better Call Sau felt so... significant. The entire empire of Walter White's falling apart and fates of characters shown. Somebody's killed, somebody's in jail, somebody's on the loose. Seeing Jesse Pinkman talking to Kim Wexler was pretty surreal.

      BCS ending was dumb dumb dumb. Saul ranting about “Walter White’s Drug Empire” when it was just simply Walt cooking for Declan and getting paid. Also Jimmy said he made millions laundering Walt’s money but that also wasn’t true as Walt had bought the car wash and Skyler was hiding the excess in the storage unit. Ending of BCS had bizarre retcons.

    I agree with your statement at the end on which order to watch the shows. When BB was made, they didn't even think of making BCS so the worldbuilding, the context, the implications of their actions were done episode by episode. BCS greatly expands the established characters, recontextualizing them and giving the audience a brand new perspective.
    However, watching BCS first really drives home how much of a force Walt was that he managed to tear down 6 years worth of buildup in just a year and a half. But then again, BCS was made with the understanding that people have already watched BB beforehand so characters, their introductions and their motives might feel out of place for new viewers

  • @ralphb2608
    @ralphb2608 Год назад +65

    Great summation. Its been a year since BCS ended. I can honestly say now that I have never had a show's ending affect me like BCS's did. The end of BB left me physically exhausted. When Kim walked out of the prison in BCS, I was emotionally crushed. I didn't realize how much I was caught up in their universe in general, and Jimmy and Kim's story in particular. "You had them down to seven years...86...but with good behavior, who knows?"

      @betterwatchtv Honestly, you can't really tell with Walter, but I'm assuming it's just supposed to show the difference between the two
      Saul is clearly unhappy with everything and this entire identity change isn't even something he wants to do, while Walter is blindly trying to get through things without any care for other people
      Basically, Walt's just a dick and he'll take any excuse to be mean to anyone lmao

    • @alexor081
      @alexor081 Год назад +1

      @@betterwatchtvThe "speak up" is an old, popular, universal, manipulative technique for intimidating someone. Basically, Walter didn't want to talk to him and Saul starts the conversation with reluctance and hesitation. He pretended he didn't hear him because some people, when they say that, they realize the chasm between them and usually reply with "Forget it. It was nothing". BB broken down Saul would do that, but BCS Saul with the weight of Jimmy Magill on his shoulders continues.
      Just like a young person during an interview or a large group. In the midst of the conversation, "Speak up/ Repeat yourself. We can't hear you." Oftentimes, the receiver gets discouraged by that and everyone could see it.
      Besides, Walter was a typical strict teacher, so, he always knew how to be authoritative or "bully" others.
      Simple but effective.

      @GamingEelektross Год назад +3

      I personally also like to use that scene with Saul and Walter (and the ending of BCS) as the way to properly frame how Saul saw Walter the entire time. Walter's always thinking he's the big stuff while being surprisingly vulnerable without Saul bailing him out in many cases. Despite all Saul did, Walter always had a low opinion of him, given the "So you were always like this" comment. Walter only saw Saul as a useful idiot that his ego needed him to be, and Saul saw Walter as another Chuck, only with all the qualities of a self-serving egomaniac and none of the endearing traits that Jimmy and Chuck had, but ultimately tried to bury.

    "You should always watch things in the order they released, and I'll die on that hill."
    I am in 100% agreement for the first watch. BB and BCS are a perfect example. BCS references a lot of prior knowledge from BB, and if a viewer doesn't have that prior knowledge then context or reveals in BCS fall completely flat. BB establishes and worldbuilds, BCS enhances, expands, recontextualises and shows new/different perspectives.
    On subsequent reruns, watch a series however you like. You can go chronologically in-universe, or watch it in entirety in reverse from the last episode. Shuffle and splice every single frame at random from every episode. Who cares? It's your experience.

The way the writers answered questions about how these characters got to where they were in Breaking was brilliant. Even characters like Crazy 8. For some reason this character intrigued me.
