16 gigs will really helps the onboard gpu but if its single channel the performance kinda unstable.
btw did you mind making benchmark with dual channel and single chanel (8+4 gigs)
A few suggestions
1.Dont put back the screws until you check that the ram works (if your ram does not work you will have to put the old ram stick back )
2.Your processor didn't support the Samsung ram stick (Check the speed you CPU can read RAM)

good question. Please check your task manager, then open performance tab. Then select "memory." this will tell you available slots for your ram, your current ram speed, and what type of ram you have.
After than open cmd as admin then type "wmic memphysical get maxcapacity" this will give you the max ram your computer can handle in kilobytes. Convert the value to gigabytes. The purpose of this is to make sure to see if your computer can handle 16gb of ram.

You can check your max capacity. Open cmd as admin then type wmic memphysical get maxcapacity. Convert kb to gb to find out max ram your computer can handle

Hi, I have this laptop. I have tried 3 different RAM sticks, supposedly compatible, but after a few minutes of using the laptop, it freezes. The RAM is recognized in the system properties. This happens in both Windows and Linux. Please help. Thanks in advance.
So your laptop has now 4gb(soldered) and you just added an 8gb ram? So total is 12. But 2400mhz, it should have been 2666mhz, will this affect the performance tho?
Yes. 4gb ram soldered. 8gb stick. Yup only 2400 mhz speed. It helps when I have a lot of windows open. Cpu is one of the major factors for performance. It depends also if you are trying to game. Im not much of a gamer. Just basic editing, surfing, illustrator photoshop for work

Depends on what game you are trying to play. Ram can help with multitasking. For games it also helps as most games nowadays require more ram

A lot of laptops come with windows 10 s mode. You can get out of windows 10 s mode pretty easily and switch it to home edition. You can run netflix on S mode. I'm not sure about Roblox. S mode prevents you from downloading 3rd party software like firefox or chrome. It's hard to find laptops nowadays without s mode.

not necessary. just playing it safe to avoid shorting other components. I've done many ram upgrades without disconnecting the battery, but it is not recommended.
@@whattmeter Ummmm yes it is ABSOLUTELY necessary to disconnect the battery before doing anything else in a computer. You're either gonna shock yourself, or more likely damaging the components!

hi, total newbie question here: why do you need to disconnect the battery? can it just be removed normally?
It’s recommended to disconnect the battery when upgrading ram to minimize risk of shorting the motherboard. It’s possible to upgrade the ram without disconnecting the battery. Just risky because you might short a component

These will take a 16 mgb stick. I'm doing this upgrade and I wonder if it is going to run in single channel mode with the ram mismatch (8gb stick + 4 soldered) has anyone did this upgrade and noticed a slower ram speed with the mismatched ram? Thanks!
The ram will only run the max speed of the soldered ram. Even If I put a faster speed ram for the removable ram slot, the soldered ram will make the speed match. Good luck, I hope this helps.

To make sure. Check your task manager > performance > memory. This will tell you if you are using slot 1 of 2 which means you have a vacant ram slot. Also you will see the current ram speed and type of ram you have currently

It should but would only run 2400mhz since the current ram is 2400mhz. You can also use crucial scanner to confirm ram compatibility

In command prompt I came to know that the maximum capacity of ram is only 12gb. I currently have 2slots with 4gb each (SODIMM) . Can I upgrade above 12gb plz reply?
Usually I check the cmd as well as crucial and the manufacturer to see if ram can go over. For the ideapad 14ADA05 it looks like 12gb is the max recommended even on the crucial website www.crucial.com/compatible-upgrade-for/lenovo/ideapad-3-14ada05

I didn't open the laptop, I just checked the task manager and it said "Slots empty: 2 of 2". And "Form Factor: Sodium"
Alrighty. But yeah looking at different sources like crucial and cmd putting in more than 12gb probably will have limitations. Manufacturer might have some hardware restrictions that will limit the computer from using more than 12gb ram

Crucial, because its same model as the original ram that the laptop have, and its same manufacture (Micron). So its better Crucial

Why the memory is 2400 mhz and not is 2666 mhz as the specifications say ? can the frequency be changed from the bios?
Not that I know off. I could be wrong but I think the main reason is that the built in ram 4gb in the motherboard is 2400 mhz so no matter what stick you put in it run at 2400mhz. Definitely feel free to chexk the bios too. You might find something I missed.
Wait do you have 2 ram slots on your motherboard? but you just put the 4gb ram only tho
the second one is a pre-soldered 4gb stick. (so 4+8=12Gb total)

This model in the video has 4gb ram built in that runs 2400 mhz. So no matter how much faster the ram I put it in will both run at the slower speed which for this case is 2400 mhz. Hope this clears things up

highly recommended to avoid shorting other components if accidentally touched. Especially if you're not grounded, there's a chance something might get shorted.

@@hirokenju5053 Depends on Manufacturer. You can adjust the amount of memory you can allocate to the GPU from within the BIOS.
I think it says Advanced or Chipset Area in the BIOS or Shared Memory.
Depends on the Brand too not all pcs will let you do that. Also just be careful, it can cause system instability.

Check you task manager > memory and look for reserved ram. It’s normal for the computer to reserve some memory. You can change some settings and adjust this but I would be careful as it can cause system instability www.pcmag.com/encyclopedia/term/reserved-memory
Some of it might also end up in shared gpu memory. Check task manager > gpu and see how much of shared memory is available
its the AMD APU, if you have 4gb of rams, your laptop will give 512mb for VRAM (3,5 usable RAM), but if you have 8gb or more, your laptop will give 2gb for VRAM. Sorry for my bad english

Oh interesting yours probably came with the faster m2 ssd. For the ram you can open cmd as admin > type wmic memphysical get maxcapacity > convert the amount from kb to gigabytes ( this will show max ram capacity)

Depends on what model you have. The one in the video had 4gb ram soldered in. The ram in the slot is the only removable/ upgradable ram
You can also not have the removable ram in the slot or leave the slot empty if you prefer

This computer came with a 5400 rpm hard drive. All I had to do was add the nvme ssd. Most lenovos come with the hdd cable though depending on where you got your laptop

@@whattmeter It is in flex mode. The first 4GB of the 8GB stick is in dual channel with the 4GB soldered. The remaining 4GB of the 8GB stick is in single channel.

How long did you wait for screen? Sometimes it takes a few minutes for new ram to get recognized. If not try reseating the ram

What happens when you put in the old ram? I would check to make sure you have compatible ram. Also does the new ram fit properly in the slot?
@@whattmeter my first ram is onboard, so i used free slot, this slot never used before, so i bought a new ram, it's same 2400mhz and fit properly, then i turned on my laptop and i got the screen is blank, after it, i put off the ram, and the screen is normal again
I would call support or the place where you got the ram to help troubleshoot

Depends on the cpu. For the one in the video recommended is 12gb max. If I go 20gb it might cause issues
