Logos is Logan and Pathos is Patton and those two methods are used in advertisements to manipulate you. Pathos is to do with feeling, so it's like lots of emotions and Logos is info, logic, maths, science and facts.
Actually Romans name is based off of Romulus. Remus and Romulus were brothers in some mythology or something i can't remember :') EDIT: Okay I get it I have my facts wrong, y'all can stop replying to me about it. EDIT 2: sorry for all the edits bUT HOW DID THIS GET SO MANY LIKES
I think you don't have all your facts down quite right. In a Q & A years ago when asked about the names, Thomas didn't talk about The Aeneid (the mythology thing you can't remember). He merely mentioned the romanticism root and the romantic movement, which featured many knights and princes. Remus was named after Romulus's brother when Thomas's team realized the ties between both sets of twins, but 'Roman' came first and 'Remus' in its wake. Yes Romulus established the city of Roma, whose people are called Romans, but the romantic ties to get Princey's name came before that line of thinking. Hope this helped.
Or maybe he’s apathetic-ness? Since he’s morality as a light side, with many emotions, it only really makes sense for him to not feel any thing as a dark side. Just sayin-
I hate to be that person, but I have a correction (I am ADDICTED to Ancient Greece and Rome) Virgil was actually a real person. He was a Roman poet that Dante loved so much he decided to write him into his story.
I'm actually italian and I can confirm everything :D The original name Is actually "Virgilio" and was a Roman poet during the Roman empire and yes,Dante putted him in his story because he liked him so much he wanted him in the story. And Virgilio is always the one Who listens to Dante costant whines and deals with It. (Sorry for bad English and for some mistakes)
@@kaoulina uh, deceit literally means lies. So uh, not anything special yknow. Theyre actual names like logan, patton, virgil, roman, remus, janus actually mean something deeper. But the sides that they repersent arent as deep as you think
Virgils name was also chosen from the historic poet Virgilious, or Virgil. Thomas had wanted Virgils name to have a link to Romans, and Virgil was a Roman poet. Also, Fun Fact: Assuming it is pronounced the same as the name of the Roman god of ends and beginnings, Janus is actually pronounced J anus. Not Janice.
Nobody CAN prove you wrong. There’s factual evidence that Logan was the only one that didn’t get to reveal his own name, so why would anyone say otherwise?
There's actually a Angel named Virgil who describes himself as the "weapon keeper of heaven" and I found that when searching Virge's name and I found it quite cool actually!
So, something I seriously love even though it's a small thing that Thomas could've only accidentally added, is how quickly and easily he switches. It's like how you're supposed to treat someone going by a new name, no confusion, no "how am I gonna remember that?" just a quick, "oh, okay cool" and switch.
also, when they reveal their names, it takes like an episode for them to adjust. like theyll still call them by their names, but still occasionally slip up. thats a neat detail as well.
I love how I knew that Janus's name was Janus before Thomas said anything all the names are basically from Roman history and I was studying it so I was like 'hmmm this has to be related somehow' reading the textbook and everything just clicked and I told my friend and he was more than suprised when he found out I was right

I always thought the name virgil was simply to emphasize that he didn’t fit in because it didn’t end the way the other’s did. However, he also doesn’t fit in the with the “darks” because their names end with “us” but your explanation does make more sense.

I just realized The light sides have the naming thing of "on" and "an" The dark sides don't This literally foreshadowed Virgil revealing he used to be a dark side
I like how Logan’s name was revealed first and then whoever the orange side is aka, Logan’s foil, will have his name revealed last. I find that to be pretty interesting.
Is it just me or has anyone else noticed this All the lights sides names end with on or an All the darkside names end with us the only one that doesn't follow this pattern is Virgil
I've noticed this too and my theory is that he wasn't ready for the others to know that he was a dark side yet, so he shortened his true name (Virgilius) into Virgil to avoid suspicion.
@@oliverh.8432 good theory that is actually what i believe as well but for emile i believe he is what i call a grey side, a side that will help the lights and the darks (i know you didn't bring him up but emile does not fit the pattern so)
This video got me thinking. If all the light side’s names end the same and all the dark side’s names end the same, then why is Virgil’s end differently? I think I cracked the code. I, like many other Fanders, suspect that there is an orange side. And this got me thinking about Virgil and how his name is different then the rest. Virgil is neither a full light side nor full dark side, he’s kinds in a gray space in between. What if the orange side’s name, if there is an orange side, ends like Virgil’s and it indicates that they fit aren’t full light side nor dark side?
I had no clue that Thomas had these characters. I only knew him from some of his vines. Its amazing he came up with each of these and how detailed their stories are
3:13 This might be at least partially true in regards to Virgil's name origin, but I believe I heard in a behind the scenes video that Thomas and his friends wanted Virgil's name to be related to Roman's, so maybe do research on that and update the video, I mean, if you want to. Edit: Oh, and in regards to Remus, just as an idea, I actually think that Creativity's name (before the split) should have been Romulus.
Patton:"Oh that doesn't end, in an "O,n" or an "i,n" shouldnt it be Oh something like Virgin?" Roman: *Laughs* Thomas: "How is that funny" Roman: "well, i. It um. Its not" WAY TO GO THOMAS STICK UP FOR YOUR PURPLE MAN. *decit is mwa fav side!!*
2:47 it's interesting that he says that because something that I noticed was that all the "light sides" do end with an -an or -on, similar endings Remus and Janud also sound similar... Idk tho
This video is what actually made me watch sanders sides. A friend had recommended it and I was tempted to watch this and learn all their names but I didn’t. I am now obsessed.
I love the though Thomas put in so much effort to make the names fit with the characters. Or this is all a coincidence. Probably not, alright ima go now-
Has anyone thought about the Ethos Pathos and Logos ? Maybe the orange side connects with the word Ethos or something and maybe his name would be 'Ethan'? i'm kinda new to the fandom and maybe someone had already thought of it ^^"
Roman’s name origin is Romulus Romulus and Remus, the twin brothers. Janus’ name comes from the God of transitions, dualitys, etc. Janus (god) has two faces, like our evil snek has one human and snake sides of his face.
I recently joined the fandom, but I actually have a question for the early Fanders; which theories were there about the names before they got revealed and HOW/WHERE CAN I FIND THEM ONLINE 😂
People were theorizing that Janus’s name was going to be something like Ethan (ethos, the ethical approach), or Damien (don’t know why, Deceit and Damien both start with a ‘D’ I guess). Some did theorize Janus (including myself so I was really proud of guessing correctly) but most thought it was gonna be Ethan or that his name really was just Deceit. I wasn’t very active online during the early times so I don’t remember or I just didn’t see the theories but I remember talking with my friend much before the Virgil’s name was dropped and she legit thought it was gonna be Aiden. I believe this was after Logan’s name was revealed. And she thought all of their names were going to have the same first letter as their function (Patton was going to be Mark/Marcus in her head. Virgil was Aiden. Roman was Colt, and she was one of those people who thought Janus’s name was going to be Damien.)
you know you've been watching the sanders sides repeatedly too much when your earbuds aren't plugged in but the videos is this playing and you remember every.single.line- Oh and, in Dante's inferno (to whoever read it) is basically dante's self-insert fanfic with his favourite idol/poet, Virgil. pretty ironic huh-
A thing I like is that all of the "light" sides "Roman, logan, and Patton" rhyme aswell with the "dark" sides "Remus and Janus" while Virgil doesn't Rhyme with any of them showing he is not either of the sides down in his deep heart he may have had the history of a dark side and grew into being one of the light sides but deep down Virgil is neither he is his own separate thing maybe because anxiety is more of a mental health issue then a side of your personality although Virgil does seem to also represent nerves, and emotions similar to Patton so it makes my theory a little flat but i will still put it out cause I have no shane
Hey I got a theory: you know how the ‘good’ sides like the main threes names all in in ‘an.’ Like romAN logAN pattON. Then there is remUS and janUS, but Virgil doesn’t fit either. Maybe a sign that he is neither or used to be a evil side and changed?
I just realized that the light sides Patton, Roman, and Logan end in an or on, and Darksides Remus and Janus end in us. Virgil doesn't match their one.

@@ChrissaTodd I get your point, but given the timeframe a callback can have, which is sometimes varied. That could put Virgil on high alert, since by the clocks in his room, time itself is a fear. I wasn't part of the fandom during the first reveals, and I'm curious about how did the fandom react
everybody *F R E A K E D .*
Yeaaah we were all freaking out-
It was a HUGE deal, especially with Virgil! Lots of people (including me) were theorizing Virgil's name for several months before he revealed it, and also got frustrated with the part in "Making Some Changes", where he was almost going to but then just turned into Talyn.
Zoëjo Wish I was in the fandom to see it, I entered the fandom after "Can Lying be Good"
Well at least I could experience the Remus and Janus name reveals

I thought when Roman laughed at Janus and he still had his hand up that he was going to slap Roman Lol. Well the words he said were probably more painful than any physical damage so 🙂
My class did a project on Romulus and Remus for online school and whenever my teacher mentioned their names I had to hold back laughter
Bonus:
Roman: "I'm named after a civilization! What do you have?"
Janus: "The name of a god from your civilization. Get on my level."
Roman: ". . ."
AND VIRGIL WAS ACTUALLY A POET WHO WROTE THE STORY OF ROMULUS AND REMUS THAT ROMAN AND REMUS WERE NAMED AFTER!!! REMUS KILLED HIS BROTHER ROMULUS AND WHAT REMUS DOES WHEN HES FIRST INTEODUCED IS HIT ROMAN IN THE HEAD AND PATTON SAYS "YOU KILLED HIM"!!! SORRY I JUST THINK ITS ALL SO COOL!!
@Lost_NeverFound thats backwards. It's named Rome because Romulus servived
Logos is Logan and Pathos is Patton and those two methods are used in advertisements to manipulate you. Pathos is to do with feeling, so it's like lots of emotions and Logos is info, logic, maths, science and facts.
Actually Romans name is based off of Romulus. Remus and Romulus were brothers in some mythology or something i can't remember :')
EDIT: Okay I get it I have my facts wrong, y'all can stop replying to me about it.
Hope this helped.
actually, thomas said in a q&a that roman’s name came from “romantic” and “romanticism”. he didn’t mention the story of remus and romulus at all
In ROMAN mythology there is the tale of Remus and Romulus, yes, which is why people think that there combined form would be named Romulus
roman mythology
janus is a roman god aswell
I like to feel if the creativity twins merged the name would be Romulus because it’s like a mix of both names if you think about it
If Patton was a dark side hed be depression
NO WHY DO YOU MAKE ME THINK THIS
Sowwy it just came to my head
Or maybe he’s apathetic-ness? Since he’s morality as a light side, with many emotions, it only really makes sense for him to not feel any thing as a dark side. Just sayin-
Or maybe just emotions since emotions are usually perceived as evil because they're the opposite of logic which is usually perceived as good
Or maybe guilt?

I'm actually italian and I can confirm everything :D
The original name Is actually "Virgilio" and was a Roman poet during the Roman empire and yes,Dante putted him in his story because he liked him so much he wanted him in the story.

Not Janice.

There's actually a Angel named Virgil who describes himself as the "weapon keeper of heaven" and I found that when searching Virge's name and I found it quite cool actually!

Janus’ name makes him feel so powerful, is it just me?
So, something I seriously love even though it's a small thing that Thomas could've only accidentally added, is how quickly and easily he switches. It's like how you're supposed to treat someone going by a new name, no confusion, no "how am I gonna remember that?" just a quick, "oh, okay cool" and switch.
also, when they reveal their names, it takes like an episode for them to adjust. like theyll still call them by their names, but still occasionally slip up. thats a neat detail as well.

I always thought the name virgil was simply to emphasize that he didn’t fit in because it didn’t end the way the other’s did. However, he also doesn’t fit in the with the “darks” because their names end with “us” but your explanation does make more sense.

Literally, the look on their faces when they get called the right name makes me so happy!
I just realized
The light sides have the naming thing of "on" and "an"
The dark sides don't

Thank you for this child
Is it just me or has anyone else noticed this
All the lights sides names end with on or an
All the darkside names end with us
the only one that doesn't follow this pattern is Virgil
I think it's because Virgil can be either. He can make Thomas so anxious it's debilitating, or he can just make sure Thomas locks the car.
I think it's because Virgilius (another possible basis for Virgil's name) is too long.
I've noticed this too and my theory is that he wasn't ready for the others to know that he was a dark side yet, so he shortened his true name (Virgilius) into Virgil to avoid suspicion.
@@oliverh.8432 good theory that is actually what i believe as well but for emile i believe he is what i call a grey side, a side that will help the lights and the darks (i know you didn't bring him up but emile does not fit the pattern so)
Its because he turned into a light side so his name can be some random way

*just remember tuna is required for pattoncake*
This video got me thinking. If all the light side’s names end the same and all the dark side’s names end the same, then why is Virgil’s end differently? I think I cracked the code. I, like many other Fanders, suspect that there is an orange side. And this got me thinking about Virgil and how his name is different then the rest. Virgil is neither a full light side nor full dark side, he’s kinds in a gray space in between. What if the orange side’s name, if there is an orange side, ends like Virgil’s and it indicates that they fit aren’t full light side nor dark side?

This might be at least partially true in regards to Virgil's name origin, but I believe I heard in a behind the scenes video that Thomas and his friends wanted Virgil's name to be related to Roman's, so maybe do research on that and update the video, I mean, if you want to.
Edit: Oh, and in regards to Remus, just as an idea, I actually think that Creativity's name (before the split) should have been Romulus.
And here I always thought Virgil was named because he was always on the verge of a panic attack….
Patton:"Oh that doesn't end, in an "O,n" or an "i,n" shouldnt it be Oh something like Virgin?"

Petition to call Patton "Pattoncake" from here on out...
I recently joined the fandom, but I actually have a question for the early Fanders; which theories were there about the names before they got revealed and HOW/WHERE CAN I FIND THEM ONLINE 😂
There are 100% theories on Tumblr if you go far enough back
Just sayin
Roman was Colt, and she was one of those people who thought Janus’s name was going to be Damien.)
you know you've been watching the sanders sides repeatedly too much when your earbuds aren't plugged in but the videos is this playing and you remember
every.single.line-
Oh and, in Dante's inferno (to whoever read it) is basically dante's self-insert fanfic with his favourite idol/poet, Virgil. pretty ironic huh-
Roman names actually based of the name "Romulus", one of the two twin princes of Rome... In fact the name Remus is actually the name of Romulus twin
Guess you could say Roman is very roman-tic 👀
I only just realised how Remus' eyes flicker to Virgil
Hey I got a theory: you know how the ‘good’ sides like the main threes names all in in ‘an.’ Like romAN logAN pattON. Then there is remUS and janUS, but Virgil doesn’t fit either. Maybe a sign that he is neither or used to be a evil side and changed?
