Great melodic drum solos by one of my drum heroes Tony Williams. He was and still is a big influenced
on my drumming! We both recorded with Miles Davis. RIP Tony Williams

Tony has been one of my drum heroes since the early 70s. The bums rush was and is one of my favorite albums.

I’ll take a genius totally going for it in the moment hitting an occasional rim to a dude with great technique playing a prearranged solo spotlessly every time. I’d argue that any minor “imperfections” only ad to the greatness of a musician on this level. He’s pushing himself and tapping into the muse and his technical expertise was always off the charts. Anyone familiar with Tony’s body of work would never criticize his technique.

@Kapālin you’re right, but relative to other drummers in the jazz realm in that era, Tony possessed supreme technique. But their progeny has only taken drumming to new heights, so you’re completely right. Some of the world-class drummers today possess unfathomable speed, creativity and skill; feats in drumming Tony would have never been able to replicate no matter how much he practiced. But no is as exciting as Tony and that is why he’s my favorite
