Thanks for reacting to this beautiful performance by Angelina. Performance of the different version of the same song by the Barefoot Angel is unique and amazing regardless of her age.
Great reaction zooty, wow every time I see this performance I tear up , the pressure that she must have been under not to disappoint the orchestra members must have been immense but hay as usual not a hint of a mistake , she is way beyond good , even after over 5 years of listening to her I still cant believe what I'm listening to , doesn't matter wheather shes 7 or 17 I still get the same feelings through my body , to some it up just look at the conductor at the end he is tickled pink. ♥️to you all.
She was 9 years 2 months old for I Put A Spell On You. She was 10 here. How many ten year olds are invited to sing with the best full orchestra in Norway? From 18 month old to now at 17 singing the theme song for the world football championship awards with an audience of 300 million! This is World class talent and still in high school.
The Norwegian Radio Orchestra (Norwegian, Kringkastingsorkestret, abbreviated as KORK) is a very popular orchestra throughout Scandinavia and beyond. Among the artists it is considered an honor and awards to receive an invitation from KORK. Once again, Angelina (10y) proves her musical talent. Regardless of whether it is a capella, acoustic, jazz band or orchestra version, we always experience an amazing Angelina. The conductor's facial expression, his enthusiasm for Angelina's performance says it all. 💯 *AJ* 💯👣 Summertime is the title of the most famous aria from the opera Porgy and Bess by George Gershwin (music), Ira Gershwin and DuBose Heyward, which premiered in 1935. Summertime was marketed in isolation as an independent song from this opera and developed into the most-covered jazz and classical standard of all time. 🤗🤗
I think this performance and her performance (also at 10) of Cole Porter's "Every Time We Say Goodbye" are two of Angelina's best, and showcase her skills at singing from the "great American songbook."
If you referred to the movie Porgy and Bess, that was written as an opera, with modern blues based elements in it, which was rather new at the time in classical music. The orchestra accompinament here is very close to the original opera (and thus the movie). Angelina sings it an octave lower, in the style of Ella Fitzgerald. Very similar to the version Ella sang it with Louis Armstrong. AJ left the second verse out in her performances (except for one), which may have to do with the fact that that was sung by Louis. The musicality here of Angelina to understand the (slow) rhythm, the bluesy feel and the emotion is incredible. When Ella sings the first verse again she has a special line for "Oh your daaaaddy is rich", which Angelina "borrowed"! At the NGT she did that even more beautiful than Ella in my opinion! This is from one of the movies (there was an older one too): ruclips.net/video/O7-Qa92Rzbk/видео.html The recording of Ella and Louis: ruclips.net/video/h3kQt14_5OQ/видео.html
Erik Couvret has already said most of it, but I think it should be clarified that there are TWO DIFFERENT approaches. Summertime was originally written as an aria for the opera and only later released as a single and transformed into a jazz standard. The latter was often performed as a duet with one male and one female voice - most famous Louis Armstrong and Ella Fitzgerald. Angelina based her NGT performance on it, hence the trumpet accompaniment. She only skipped Louis' part because of the NGT time limit as you can see in this sample ruclips.net/video/l1VTpgR3vuA/видео.html . When she performs it at festivals where there is more time, she also sings the male part - she is a contralto and has no problem with that. But this is the operatic aria as originally written by Gershwin. It's actually a soprano part and should be sung in a way that would lull a baby to sleep - it's a lullaby as you can see in the example Erik has linked to. There is no male part and of course no trumpet either. Angelina is primarily a jazz artist, but she is so versatile and not limited to jazz, as you can see very well here. She can't go as high as a soprano in the long run, but the interpretation is great and does more than justice to the original. And the performance of the orchestra cannot be praised enough. The overall package is nothing short of great. Here's an additional short pro-concert interview with snippets from rehearsal ruclips.net/video/jbSvk__nRQU/видео.html
Hi Zooty, surprised you had not seen this one, it is one of my favorite versions she has done. The one she did on NGT at 8 years old was in the style of Ella Fitzgerald's version (1957) :ruclips.net/video/VZRgiuAXRAs/видео.html. Composed by George Gershwin in 1934 and famously played in the 1935 Porgy and Bess Opera. This version she is singing here is more in the original of the Porgy and Bess Opera, though of course Angelina not singing opera, but here is the Gershwin Opera version...basically with orchestra like this one: ruclips.net/video/O7-Qa92Rzbk/видео.html. Enjoy, and you will find that either one of Angelina's versions are spectacular...by an 8 year old and here a 10 year old. Stay well Zooty.
Angelina rendition is very much her own. She drops to her lower register to sing the male part and also almost talks a verse. All good and very much her own. Thanks Devon.
This performance was profoundly beautiful. This is one of my favorite performances.

Always summer when AJ's around !!!
I love both of her performances, the raspy 8 yo version on NGT & this smooth orchestral 10 yo version. Each totally different
10 years old (2016 recording - born in 2006).
Thanks.
'Broadway Stage' quality too, and, she's been to Broadway, perhaps with that in mind.
What a beautiful overall performance, both AJ and Kork. One of her top 5 I think.

Hands down my favorite performance of this song
She is definitely not 11 here, more like late 9 or early 10.
Either way, it's very very good!!
