  • I much prefer this version over the album version. Obviously, the audio quality isn't nearly as good but this was maybe my favorite song of my favorite live performance ever and I wish we got an official release of a version like this.

I completely agree with you. I saw him perform this live and I fell in love with it. When it was finally released I was so upset with the robotic dark voice he uses. It sounds so much better upbeat like he performed it live. I must say tho now that I’ve listened to the actual released one more it’s grown on me. Nonetheless, I still have the same feeling as you.

Yeah, I don't dislike the album version, it is good. I just love the live version. The song isn't supposed to be upbeat considering its lyrical content so the robotic voice and the removal of the Choir at the end make sense but that doesn't change how much I love things as they were. Both the delivery that is reminiscent of earlier in his career and the incorporation of the instrumental outro, taking full advantage of the choir and full band. It was just perfect live and I wish there was an official version that I could listen to on repeat with the audio from the mics, not the crowd.

Oh yeah I when he performed it in Atlanta and earlier shows he had a preacher voice of himself after the 2nd verse and it made the song perfect. I’d recommend you check out if you haven’t seen it yet

Maybe the live version is performed this way to showcase the humanity of the song because he’s actually there singing it. And the album is the robotic because it is completely digital and not really him singing you know what I mean?

@@joshjoshjoshjoshjoshjoshj I really like that take.
I think in the name alone he communicates that the rhythm is a product of that algorithmic analysis so it is definitely commenting on crafting a song that is soulless in its efforts to "make you move and groove". In the album version, he uses his delivery to satirize that robotic, calculating development of the song compared to the live version where he adopts more of that notion of making something that is sure to make you move. This could be commenting on the difference in your connection that you make when seeing live music compared to streaming music but I imagine it could also just be a product of accepting people who are hearing the song for the first time won't be analyzing every lyric and doing the robot voice live would probably be received poorly. Either way, I do appreciate those artistic decisions.

Chris Mueck yes good point on it being to create a soulless song. Anyways, I’m pretty sure the song is about merging with tech in the future after analyzing the lyrics. “Life is it really worth it?/Human ain’t the move do I care now, looking for something worth it the algorhythm is perfect” “Mother infinity, why do you go away from me?” (Can’t die in the singularity). I just started contemplating why he’d take out the intro telling us to be free . Maybe he has a epiphany that this isn’t the way life is supposed to be and to tell the children? 🤷‍♂️ Maybe the album version is the “evil”, soulless version of the song where it’s too late to escape from technology completely taking over our lives, and the cut freedom line that might inspire hope is now being censored. To add to that theory, the voices telling us to move and groove suddenly becoming deeper, authoritative, and inhuman make it seem like we’ve been tricked into believing something false. It’s also interesting how the song is about keeping rhythm, yet the ending has the song getting completely dismembered, like the facade is coming down and the truth of the situation being revealed. Thoughts?

this needs to be on the next album, like I’m praying it’s makes it on it lmao. it can be spelt algorithm, making it a finished body of work with the outro with the preacher and choir, normal delivery of the verses and the extra layers of the tribal drums and tech sounds the live version has.

Completely agree with you. I am eternally bummed we don't get this version in high quality.. but the song still fucks extremely hard either way.
