had this one for about 12 years, have just bought a new one as I had a couple of fire burn holes from being too close in the winter. the new version is much better. The changes in the multicam are for the better, more of a woodland colour, the old one was very light green compared. also, its nice to have the attachment points all around. They were there on the old one but cut off on 2 sides before it was shipped from DD as the old one was prone to ripping on 2 sides so they stopped you using them. Hoping the new one lasts just as long!
Been using DD gear for years love the tarps hammocks everything really only thing I need to buy is there walking poles. love the DD hammock on the ground as well as the normal set up going to be using the hammock and tarp ground set up on a cycling tour next spring, nice video thanks for sharing.....colin.
Been the pleased owner of DD’s Tarp , Hammock and slings etc for quite a while now. Can’t fault them, quality equipment that won’t let you down. You’ll be warm and dry when you need to be. Simples!
I think most of us can agree; using a ridge line to make a “Tarp Tent” or “Diamond Tent” is preferred. I find the pole down the center takes up all the usable room inside.
You forgot my two favourites: Pyramid with floor (FULLY enclosed) and tarptent with 25% floor. Floor is sometimes more important than roof, while camping in muddy area.
Would love to see a video like this for sub zero tempts in snow. I'm pretty lame in my skills, need to learn some because of the difficulty of setting up in blizzards when snowy. I usually just A frame it but it leaves you exposed to bitter winds.
@@AlyxAesthetics Hi. I agree but i would point out that at 14 you don't have many bills to pay and you can do as you wish with your money. However i admire that you saved up for something you wanted. Well done. For that you just earned another sub. All the best.
RHINO 54 oh thanks! I only ever pay for things I need or will use a lot. I don’t buy sweets and new games or things like most other people my age do. I’ll sub u too
Great opportunity there. Mention to woodland (below), about his parachute canopy tent. Use the 3x3 (like my tyvek/mylar tarp making a tent or hammock, and turn into a hanging/staked-up canopy. Then put on a skirting around the side ... as a yurt. Extensive height and inside space.
I’m new to tarp camping and curious about the advantage of folding the rear corners under in the tarp tent set up instead of just using one peg on each corner. Thanks for a great video!
Hi Craig - thank you for your comment! Having 2 pegs on the back of the tent at each corner helps to tension the set-up correctly and also adds a little more strength into the pegging. This makes it more suitable for when there is more wind, or worse weather. Additionally, having the end tucked in can help with water-run-off, which could otherwise lead inside the shelter. Hope that this helps! Kind regards, Ewan
First hang the tarp on a line using only three middle points of the middle row. Tense them. Then take two loose points of the middle row and pin them to the ground at 90 degree angle to the ridge line. Then tension and pin the corners. Is my explanasion clear?
A channel called survival theory does a great instructional on this shelter, under a slightly different name. Americans use different names for a lot of these, like the ground diamond here is called a plow point or plough point. The channel above also does a great in depth demo of the three sided enclosed pyramid.
Hi Toby, the tarp tent can be created with a Tarp XL following the same steps as highlighted in this video - this will result in a shelter that has a greater length, so more room for extra gear if needed, or more people if you are camping with friends! Hope this helps :) Ewan - DD Hammocks
you've missed out one of my favourites tarp shelters using one of your 3 x 3 tarps, and thats the 3 side lean-to with porch! funnily enough i have put a review video out today featuring it, its me gear review of the 3 x 3, its an awesome shelter would of been well worth featuring it in this video

Hi! We don't have any immediate plans to introduce a DD Tarp 3.5x3.5 - PRO - MC to the range but I will certainly pass this onto the design team as something you'd like to see. We never like to say never at DD! Best regards, Caroline - DD Hammocks
Hey guys, please make multicam superlight tarps. All the other companies can do it like hammock gear for instance. We don't expect the vibrant colours and quality of the heavier material but I can guarantee you would sell out of them immediately. We need more superlight products, in more colour options and you will continue to be peoples go to for hammocks and tarps. More and more folks including me are importing down top quilts etc from America. There is no UK competition for ultralight hammock insulation, hammocks and tarps. I want to buy my gear from you but you have begun to lag behind. I don't want a hammock gear down underquilt I want a DD one.
Hi there - thank you for your feedback! Sorry to have to disappoint a little for now, but unfortunately we don't have any plans in the immediate future to introduce our Multicam design to the SuperLight range of products. This is of course something we would love to do (and have tried) but unfortunately it has proven very difficult to print this pattern onto the SuperLight range material at a quality we would be proud of to produce, due to both the complexity of the pattern, and the nature of the material. Of course we do offer SuperLight options in other colours, such as green and brown. I hope this helps to explain! Vikki - DD Hammocks
I'm thinking about trying out a tarp to lighten my load when backpacking........I'm 6'2. How tough is it for somebody my height to get in a dry position under a 3x3 if you have a good rain? Any opinions are welcome!
Nah man, especially the multicam. Their pattern is light years ahead of the aqua quests, the aqua quests looks like the same 1 sq ft image tiled repeatedly across the tarp. Also, the corner loop support on the DD is much higher quality.

True, but it’s good to know both pitches because sometimes there are no trees.
or use two poles bound together at the top in an A-frame, and guy them at the front if necessary
