Covid and nuclear fallout are not only fundamentally different but also very different situations entirely. One was a pandemic, the other is a devastating use of lethal force. Not to mention you have to handle them almost entirely different as well with the only major similarity being to stay inside. If you're located about 5 miles from the blast then you're not going to want to be outside. If there's a major outbreak of an extremely dangerous and contagious disease then you're going to want to stay inside as much as possible while making as little contact with people as possible. A nuclear fallout situation is much worse in some aspects such as not being able to go outside unless you have proper protection from radioactive materials which the average person more than likely wont have, however there are ways to make your own though homemade suits are unreliable. There really isn't any reason to even compare the two situations as one was a freak act of nature and the other would be a deliberate attack on a nation.

Good point. A "bunker" could easily become a tomb in the event of a NUDET. However, should it remain intact it could prove to be a good way to avoid radioactive contamination of unprotected water, soil, or food sources for example. In fact one of the most significant issues would be finding an uncontaminated source of water. I say that since I had the chance to speak to some of the survivors of Hiroshima in Japan who wanted the world to know what they endured and more importantly those who didn't. Many of whom drank contaminated river water. Especially those with severe burns. It was essentially a horror beyond imagination.

If you're in NYC during a nuclear bomb drop except for something less destructive like a dirty bomb you're screwed no matter what.
Power is going out which means all those people living in multi story buildings are walking up stairs in the dark.
There will no heat or ac and you won't be able to open windows due to fallout. People's tempers are going to rise fast if it's summer and trapped in a box. Cell towers along with TV and radio transmission towers will be down or soon will be when the ones that have generators run out of fuel. So won't be much communication and how many have battery operated radios these days. (I do including a hand crank charging one)
Most people won't be home when one drops, good luck even getting home since mass transit will be shut down from clogged roads to subway shutdowns leaving tens of thousands more trapped underground not knowing what's going on. Even walking home through the fallout will take hours for most people.
No power means no water for many places and the ones with tanks on the roof will empty fast. So how many will be able to wash off any fallout?
The best advice I can give beyond not living there is play the fallout series of games, its about the best training you'll get for what's ahead.

@@AshGreen359 I would like to think people understand this, but apparently it's not well known. Nukes detonating just above the ground is effective in a very isolated area. Believe it or not, the actual affected blast zone is rather small. Hollyweird always exaggerates in the movies.
The most effective nuke would be a high altitude detonation causing an EMP. That would shutdown pretty much the entirety of the USA power grid and all unshielded electronics plunging the US into the iron ages for a year or more. Within 3 days, 10% of the US population would die from chronic illness, and 70+% of the population would be dead after only 30 days.
A nuke impact would only affect maybe 1-3 million. As opposed to 280+ million with an EMP.
I should also mention a high altitude detonation wouldn't blot out the sun. It would only create a dim flash very high up and that would be it. No crazy doomsday clouds.

I was a teenager when 9/11 happened and for years all I heard was how "any day we are going to be nuked!", "The terrorists will bring a suitcase nuke and detonate it!", etc., etc. That was the early 2000s. We are now in 2023 with "new" Boogeymen and new fear propaganda.
    2) Nuclear weapons require a LOT of maintenance and preparation and an offensive nuclear operation requires an unimaginable amount of logistical coordination
All of our "enemies" are logistically challenged in ways that for them to start a nuclear war would mean almost inevitable annihilation for them. They dont have the readiness capabilities to launch a successful first strike and urban centers would not be their immediate targets.
    3) No one wants a nuclear war
Even the "Elites" or "Deep State [Enter shadowy tin foil cabal group here] dont want the world in ashes. A nuclear war means all that "high life" that the elites enjoy goes away. No pool parties, no abundance of food, limited electrical power. Basically first world comfort goes away. They dont want that.
The game is and always has been fear. The more you have fear, the more your critical thinking abilities are diminished, the more you are able to be controlled.

If you are a NYC resident, or any other target city, you want to button up in place for 72 hours. Somekind of improvised heavy rad shelter. Last thing you want to do is run out with 3 million of your closest friends and neighbors jamming up the George Washington and the Holland tunnel simultaneously. Thats a death trap for sure. As for me i will be very thankful to be living in flyover country. I will be racing over to my inlaws house for tactical planning and refreshments.

Whenever I think about nuclear war, it strikes me just how good of a position my own city (Chicago) is in if it ever happens. Goes for plenty of other midwestern cities too, like Milwaukee. The world's largest source of freshwater on one side, the breadbasket on the other, and very far from any coastline where the majority of people/ targets are, and the longest distance a missile would have to travel to each us (meaning better chance of it being shot down). Plus mountain chains to the east and west.
The weather would probably continue to suck, and we'd likely have an influx of survivors from elsewhere to contend with, but the Midwest/ western great lakes as a whole would be in a really good position of surviving intact, relatively speaking. Not like DC/Baltimore, NYC, Boston, LA, or San Francisco. They'd all be much more likely to get wiped out

I don't think you know how nukes work...so they fly into space ..in space the onboard computer does it s calculations and launched the warhead at your direction....when that's done there's no electronics just gravity and the projectile coming your way ......makes it almost impossible to shoot down

    • @finnl6887
      @finnl6887 Год назад

@@chargedx5768 yes, I know how nukes work. You, on the other hand, apparently have only a rudimentary knowledge of how they work, and basically none about our satellite networks or defense systems. They do not just free fall from orbit lmao, and the further around the earth they have to go the more time it takes for them to travel and the easier they are to track, and much easier to engage. You see, there's this thing called physics where they can calculate a projectiles trajectory and fire countermeasures. I could get into the math of it, but suffice to say that the defenses don't have to shoot as far and thus don't even need to be as fast as the nuke delivery vehicle to be capable of interception. Which, if the nukes really did just freefall from orbit as you suggested, would be hilariously easy because of how much slower that delivery would be. Which, again, they don't, that would make most evasion based ABMs impossible.
It's understandable you've got a false image of how nukes work, thanks to both Hollywood and plenty of propaganda. If you want a better grasp of how they actually function in practice, and how our defense systems do as well, I suggest starting with reading up more on MIRVs, dynamic trajectories, ALTBMD, the US Navy's Ticonderoga class cruisers and how their Aegeis systems work, our exoatmospheric defense systems (yes, this falls under the purview of the branch everyone jokes about, Space Force), and our many, many various forms of surface to air missile defense systems from the famous Patriot system to the less known but formidable Vigilant Eagle system. You'll see that nuclear war, and its engagement, is far more complex and involved than a simple launch and drop, and exactly why the further a missile has to travel the more easily defended against it is.
And that being one target far away from most of the clustered together targets means less headed for your vicinity, to say nothing of the effect of natural barriers and distance on the fallout.

I hear there is a top ten list. NYC is at the top and Houston is now number two. Way to go Houston, we all knew you could do it.
But seriously, an air burst and the following fire storm and winds across the flat lands. You’ll want to be underground. If it’s that tidal wave nuke, you’ll need distance and high ground.
Good luck Houston, pray for an EMP.

Firewheels in Germany Dresden have raised higher as the buildings in the city. If you are in a basment, hope the air doesnt get sucked out.

Unless you are killed outright, at a bare minimum you need 14 days of food and drinking water. And if truth be told, a 49 day supply is better. If you plan to use your standard toilet, you also need at least 15 gallons of flushing water per day. A better solution would be to use 5 gallon buckets with lids and plastic liners for toilet purposes (adding news paper after each use will also help keep things less messy)

From the the stars , black holes , trees on earth that die , microorganisms , animals . Literally everything … It’s time to quit being afraid of death … You had no ideal of where you were before you were born , Us humans are naturally scared of death … But death is the most naturalist thing ..
