This is so interesting, and massive well done, many years ago the Thames back in the 70s had some huge Dace, and our river mole here in the south, I used to love trotting for them after finishing work on a summer evening, great video, I really enjoyed this, and Dace boy oh boy dont they fight for there size, perfect thank you full respect to you, merry christmas, Roach lovely, we fishermen know why we fish.........it's magic.
Great video Si , looks a lovely river the ribble , the Acolyte 17’ is a great rod ,it would come into its own on the likes of the ribble , Lovely roach your daughter caught ,proper roach , well done matey , good luck on your quest for more massive dace ….
Top one. Well done simon and harper. Simons a cracking lad and helped me get myself and nets out of the water . And kept me smiling on the bank in some cold weather. Onwards n upwards. Merry Xmas everyone 😊😊😊
The Ribble likely held record dace back in the mid 1980s. It was not unusual to catch the odd dace around the LB mark with the average size of dace catches very high. The river has gone though a lot of changes over the years but the potential is growing again for a record dace from the Ribble. Right time of year and correct area of the lower river that once produced those bigger dace could be hold a new record in the next few years!
Had some amazing Dace in my area in the 80's on a local river. Unfortunately long gone due to abstraction, predation and pollution. Still catch the odd one around the half pound but didn't realise how blessed we were back then
Met a Bailiff on a small trib river that told me the dace migrate during the winter across the Ribble estuary and shoal up in the tidal reaches. If that's the case there must be some serious fish amongst them.
My beloved River Ribble is still recovering from a catastrophic cormorant event in the early 90s. The roach, and dace populations look strong, even though the 2lb+ roach are not as common as they once were. My question is, do the huge weights of chub, from yesteryear, still get caught?
Had decent weights of chublets 12oz to 1lb 8oz in the winter last couple of seasons on the tidal stretch .. so the future looks good fingers crossed. However the shoals of fish in the 2 to 5lb class are few and far between now sadly for various reasons.. it definetly holds dace to record proportions but most people dont weigh them.. always get a few nudging a pound in the winter.
@@deathfromabove592 Thanks for the reply. As I'm sure you know, there were potential huge catches of chub on the ribble in the pre cormorant years. The m6 bridge, or upstream of the bridge at Walton le Dale, or countless other areas, we're capable of throwing up 200lb bags of chub every winter. That was before the (deathfromabove) days. Good to see the Ribble getting back to its best. I just hope the cormorants don't become an issue again.
@@pleasantville4529 I watched anglers fill a keepnet by dinner time, and fill it again before dusk under the m6 bridge in times gone by.. it was that prolific for chub in the winter. We used to cycle down as kids and just watch.. great times on a great river.. tight lines mate.
@@deathfromabove592 I would love to know if those chub shoals still turn up in January and stay until the end of the season? I got to fish there on one occasion, and my mate filled his net with so many chub, that the bottom three rings of his net broke, and all that was before midday. It rained all morning, and the wash off from the m6 was the most foul stinking pollution I have ever witnessed.
(1980's-90's) anglers sat and waited until the anglers below ran out of bait, then slid in....that area gets some serious poacher pressure now...@@deathfromabove592
Had one on double 8 mm pellets a few years ago, certainly well over a pound! No scales , reckon 1,3 ish !, me n my dad have had a few up to 1,1 weighed on the ribble.
Sadley I don’t live near a good river lime this one but wish I did , it would change my style off fishing for the better and make it more enjoyable , but what a fantastic upload great work and making memories is what it’s all about 👍
Bumped into Simon years ago on a build site when I was a young Apprentice, 15 years later I'm a carp syndicate owner and it's absolutely overwhelming to see Simon still smashing the banks, fair play and a top man!
Enjoyed this. Love that you take your daughter with you. Isn't the Tyne really good for dace now ? Seen some impressive weights in the matches this year.
Until the December 1968 BRFC record clear-out the dace record was 1-8-5 from the Hampshire Avon and there were other dace recorded over 1-6-0 but the BRFC made no real effort to trace these old catches which were probably in glass cases. Some records back then were ludicrous, the 7-2-0 grayling, the 4-8-0 silver bream and the 10-8-0 chub but others needed more thorough investigation. One example, the Aylmer Tryon barbel of 14-6-0 was eventually re-instated though not through the efforts of the BRFC. Two records that should have been looked at properly were the dace and the seatrout. In the interim, post 1968, some records were much lower than should have been the case - the silver bream was 15oz - the bar had been set at 2lb, then 1-8, the 1lb but finally got to a sensible level of over 3lbs.
Drennan channel, always real
.💪
Best wishes to Peter drennan . Hero in my lifetime

Well in buddy
The drennan acolyte rods are awesome for small silver fish.

Proper fishing. Not much beats Trotting for decent Silvers in my book🎣
good lad Simon ✌
great vid mate

Great video. Does the River Wear still have the potential to produce another record?
What is that 17ft rod you used, fair play; a man dedicated to his sport, hope you beat the record dude, you deserve it and you'll do it, no doubt!
Love the vid brought up on the thames catching dace
Top man up the north east
Need to go to the Ribble for the perch.
Cadence match rods are superb

The ribble just spoils you for dace fishing ,probably the best fishing in the country
Had one on double 8 mm pellets a few years ago, certainly well over a pound! No scales , reckon 1,3 ish !, me n my dad have had a few up to 1,1 weighed on the ribble.

Not fished it yet but apparently the River forth (near Stirling) is the dace paradise of scotland
yes solid
Was about to mention that, and some others
hello, what reel did you use and main line? thank you and Merry Christmas!
That's a Shimano vanford in the video

🇱🇹👍
A master at work
Now that is a dying method
I caught a huge dace just down stream from there earlier this year, got a pic if you're interested. I would say it was over a pound
Mid 70s ross on wye trotting for dace while dad and his mates had a ploughmans in the pub. A fish a chuck, happy days
Fished there last week, the big shoals are not yet there but it won't be long. Plenty from other bank though.
