I watched every episode of Hey Dude as a kid, and you know what? I can’t remember anything. Not one episode. Not one plot line. His name was Danny? MR. EARNST! That just came to my head. Maybe I smoked too much…cigarettes in high school. The one thing I did remember, though, because we constantly made fun of stuff we used to watch, was the theme song. We even made our own lyrics! I won’t subject anyone to that kind of filth, but sufficed to say, it was good times. Great video! Glad he’s ok.
I vaguely remember two plot lines. 1. Mr Earnst’s son accidentally broke his dad’s credit card trying to open a door. Then at the end of the episode, he was saved when a replacement card arrived in the mail saying to destroy the old one 2. Mr Earnst hand carved a directional sign for one of the activity cabins and kept getting sidetracked every time he went to hang it up. Once he finally did, it was pointing the wrong way
I've been rewatching the show as an adult, and it holds up really well. It just keeps reminding me how lucky I was to be in an age group that had fun to watch, tales of morality.
Dude we were super lucky with chunks of tv shows we had when we were kids. They were so good that parents are showing them to kids now and kids are loving them. 😝

I was a friend of Joe's in college, and we went to NAU together. He was known as "Stoli", for his love of said vodka. A great guy, and I hope he's doing okay.
Hey Dude was one of our favorites as kids, my brother, sister, and I would watch it religiously. Now when I see the “hey dude” shoes, it always brings me back full nostalgia.
It was refreshing to hear him admit " the spotlight was turned off on me". Alot of actors clamor to fame and blame others for their failed jobs. Nice to hear him accept his Hollywood exit and still be happy apparently. Good on him
The ruins of the Hey Dude set are still out in the AZ desert. I think it's on private property? There's a video on youtube of a guy exploring the ruins. Pretty cool. A lot of recognizable stuff is still out there 30+ years later.
Def one of my favorite shows, me and my friends used to pretened to be them, you know before the interwebs when you actually went outside and played with your friends lol
This Danny deep dive has been getting its rounds by RUclips channels. It's amazing how a query can be thought of by so many people at the same time and get close to an answer via RUclips. Hopefully everything is factual??
Hey Dude was one of my favorite Nickelodeon shows back in the day. For many years I have wondered what happened to Joe Torres A.K.A. Danny. That's so awesome.
Glad to hear he is still alive and well. When the put hey dude out on dvd years ago I picked it up and gave it a rewatch. In doing so I looked online to see what all the cast had been up to since. Always wondered what happened to him whenever I didn’t see anything online.
I wonder if SplatCon's cancelation was in part due to Quiet on Set and increased negative perception of Nickelodeon. Dan Schneider started becoming big as I was aging out of Nickelodeon and I only really watched All That. Never heard much drama about the earlier Nick shows other than Ren and Stimpy/John K. Anyway, bravo for capturing some of the magic of my childhood as well as solving the mystery of my adulthood nostalgia.
I think it was more about poor marketing and promotion.... I live here in SoCal and I didn't even hear about it 😅. I can maybe seeing it happen next year now that more people know about it OR the will attach it to another con - like a smaller comic con.
Yeah, I saw a sub reddit finding out about the con due to its cancelation so that's the likely and unfortunate culprit. I did rewatch PushingUpRoses's retrospective on these shows and the biggest drama with this show was due to the Tuscon heat. The cast had a great experience otherwise and David Brisbin was making the cast crack up when the cameras weren't rolling. Glad to hear not all Nick shows have dark secrets.
From a lot of my research mostly all the very early 90s shows have very good experiences with cast and crew.... Mostly because they had so much freedom to do what they wanted. Thus they had fun making their craft.
3:29 You spoke for us all! I used to run home from middle school so I wouldn’t miss a minute of Hey Dude. Danny was my over all fav, but it wasn’t lost on me that his acting was lilted if not dry. I was so excited when Melody married Ben Stiller in real life. She had the best comedic delivery of all of them, dork boss included. But there was something about Danny, he was perfect.
I thought about it years ago. When I saw this it made me remember better days. Thank you this was awesome and I went and found the podcast before your video was even done.

Glad to see there are others keeping the memory of this series alive.

Hey Dude was one of my top favorite shows when I was a kid. I can still remember watching it every evening starting at 5:30pm ET. I also still have fond memories of some of the funniest scenes, such as Mr. Ernst being called Mr. Flabbybottom by that group of weird men and scenes from the episode involving Melody being the brat and Mr. Ernst being mistaken for the horse that was diagnosed gastrothrombosis. "Com'on Bud man! Spray man, spray!".
Hahaha! Holy crap! The part about doing the rain dance was so messed up looking back now. Surprised there wasn't an episode about "Fire water" and casinos.
Man, I totally remember this show and Joe. Glad he is doing well, I’d love to shake that guys hand and buy him dinner. When the spotlight left, I still have fond memories of watching him daily. Cheers

I am almost sure he did a voice acting ad in a commercial for a local grocery store over 20+ years ago. A family member and I were like it’s that the guy from “Hey Dude.” It literally says “Saver Joe.” in the commercial.
I remember the rumor when I was in middle/high school was that he had died of cirrhosis of the liver. …which is some casual racism now that I think of it.
Before smartphones were a thing, My Dad used to confidently tell my brother and I that Danny from Hey Dude was Danny Trejo 😂 my bro and I would try to enlighten him.. with you know.. age differences, they look nothing alike, etc.. but he was having none of it. To this day, I still like to think it’s the most underrated conspiracy theory of all time
Ha ha ha that’s too good. In the research many people thought Danny became the manager for the NY Yankees because they share the same name… but they look nothing a like 😂😂😂

I bet those guys that had the podcast are like, “What now?” 😂
No joke… they say that in the last episode ha ha ha.
They should keep going with other tv and movie mysteries 🔥
Absolutely! Amelia Earhart? haha
I will give you one I am interested in doing... Was legends of the hidden temple rigid?
@ If it's anything like the rest of Hollywood... YES VERY.
I find it amazing that I haven't watched this show since it was on TV yet I remember every clip you showed like I watched it yesterday.
It’s so funny how you can remember things like that when they pop up. Just shows how much it was apart of your childhood.
Thanks for watching 😝
how fast does time happen... we change so fast... bless to all the youths , but their time is running fast... i hope all do what they want to do in life.
I hope they dont make RUclips videos - thats my job now ha ha ha
Great show ❤
It was a super fun one to watch 😝
I remember Hey dude! Yeah...Danny became a car dealer in New Jersey! Totally!
I remember seeing that rumor when researching this video.
I actually bought a car from that dealership in NJ, and the Danny Torres salesman looked a lot like the actor from the show!
I remember watching Hey Dude as a kid! I always wished more episodes were dedicated to Joe Torres’ character! He was the most interesting character
Same… they seem like use him more as a supporting actor. I think they could have had really cool story lines with him 😝
The fact that it is an EXTREMELY common name does not help.
I am sure it was driving people crazy in the early 2000s 😂😂😂
WELL, THANKS.
Thank you for this
Glad you enjoyed it. We will cal it even by you smashing that Sub button 😝
Danny Lightcock was always one of my favorite characters
He was the best on the show ha ha ha
Haha 😂
All the gays like you loved him
@@jiayouchinese😂😂😂
His name is “Lightfoot”, not “Lightcock”.
Oh wow! I had no idea this had happened. I thought it was still a mystery. I would've never found out had it not been for this channel.
I am glad I could help ya with the mystery. Thanks for watching and supporting. Onto the next mystery 😝
We've been trying to promote it but you know... money. :)

Its a fun listen
Hey dude review sound good to me.
I will have to add it to the list.
I know right… gotta love the stereotypical puns and quips. Luckily all those things wrap up in the end and everyone learns a lesson 😝
There’s nothing wrong with making jokes about stereotypes
I have been obsessed with this show and salute your shorts I had the honor to interview Michael from salute your shorts back in 2021
Oh yeah? Was there any particular reason for the interview? Or was it just for fun?
Do you happen to hear, like...all the time that you look like LA Rams coach Sean McVay? 😂
I take that as a strong compliment. I am a RAMS fan and he is also a handsome man 😝
Man, I totally remember this show and Joe. Glad he is doing well, I’d love to shake that guys hand and buy him dinner. When the spotlight left, I still have fond memories of watching him daily. Cheers
He deems like a really fun dude - I would have a beer with him.
How about Mr. Ernst's cameo in Forrest Gump??
What really? Where in the movie?
@@Wild1Unknown When Forrest is at the University of Alabama and they're going to let the black students into the building, Mr. Ernst is the news reporter.

At first I was thinking he was Forrest’s principal 😂
I loved this show as a kid, and never met a single other person that had ever heard of it. Glad to know it wasn't just me, that other people out there can validate I didn't make it up.
I think it was a super fun show and it will always have a special place in my heart.
Glad you enjoyed the video and I could bring ya back to a fun memory 😝
he did a good job of not being on anyone radar \
He did an amazing job of not being found for decades ha ha ha
Hey Dude! Clean shows of the 80's
It was a fun one to watch for sure
He was just in a wetmovie1 video a few weeks ago about the Nickelodeon meetup. Seems like a cool, humble guy.
Do you have a link to it?
@@Wild1Unknown I don't think I can post links. But the video is called: "The Splat Con Situation and Nickelodeon Get together Christine Taylor, Michael Ray Bower 2024 !!!" and he appears at 6:45 mark.
I am almost sure he did a voice acting ad in a commercial for a local grocery store over 20+ years ago. A family member and I were like it’s that the guy from “Hey Dude.” It literally says “Saver Joe.” in the commercial.
Oh really. He had a recognizable voice. I wonder if it is online somewhere?
I remember the rumor when I was in middle/high school was that he had died of cirrhosis of the liver. …which is some casual racism now that I think of it.
I don’t remember when I heard it but I remember hearing this rumor and the one about the guy from blues clues too 😂😂😂
Oh, Jesus... why don't you take it a step further and complain about cultural appropriation or call him LatinX. 🙄🙄🙄
Wow I haven't even remembered this show in years. Thanks for bringing it back.
All episodes are on Paramount plus. I had a blast earlier this year watching Hey Dude, Salute Your Shorts, Nick Arcade, etc. 😊
I am glad I could bring back some nostalgic good vibes - We will call it even by you smashing that Sub Button.
They are talking about a remake but who knows if it'll actually happen.
Like everything - They have to see if there is money to be made 😅
Link ?
Good catch - I just added it in.

I hope he's ok wherever he is. Danny was a great best friend character
Yeah he was always the guy you could depend on 🚀
All these years later and he still sounds that same as he did on the show. So glad he’s doing great. 🤍
Yeah - you can hear it in like the firsts second ha ha ha
I like that his voice is basically the same even though he’s unrecognizable
I know right… you can hear it in like the first second 😂
More Hey Dude please.
What would you like to see?
Nice gumshoe work!
Thank you! Cheers! It was kinda fun to dive down this rabbit hole
Bring back 90s babes. My goodness. What we have lost.
Great episode
Glad you enjoyed it 👍
Great video. I have a request. Roundhouse.
Oh man - I haven't seen roundhouse in decades - I will add it to the list
More Hey Dude!!!!
In the research many people thought Danny became the manager for the NY Yankees because they share the same name… but they look nothing a like 😂😂😂
omg. i remember this show. had no idea that one dude disappeared
Yeah. I always remember seeing it pop up like every 4 or 5 years that he was still missing.
