It's nice to see your comparison. I will be doing the same as soon as I get the Eminence 1028P with paper formers. I don't know if you saw my video, but you can still order them from Eminence. Also, I've got a big surprise coming, a mint, vintage 1967 Echoplex EP-2. Should have it the end of this week.
@@Matan2222222 They still have the original Jensen C10 in the 1964 and CTS ceramics in the 1966. I have tried the 1028K in them but put the originals back in to keep them original.
@@Matan2222222 I've never really compared them. When I put the 1028K in, I only put a pair so it was difficult to tell any difference. They also make the Alessandro G10-S59 and 63 I think which have the paper voice coil formers and I think they are basically just like the 1028P.
Got my 20w 10a125.It's bright but rounded at the very high end ,not fizzy at all.The 20w alncio Blue pup I had was actually warmer and more sparkly(crisp, not jangly) and could sound a teeny bit fizzy with OD.I bet these two would pair very well.
the eminence appears to have a wider frequency response whereas the weber is very midrange heavy by comparison lacking both lows and highs. curious as to how 'new' the speakers are....if these are not yet 'broken in" the eminence will warm up a little more with use.. but I suspect the weber will start to sound muddier and not as defined over time.... would lean toward the eminence.....
Hey! Good comparison! I'm thinking to put the 1028k in a 4x10 for a bassman clone. I have a question: how would you describe this speaker? Brillant with loose round bass? Is it similar to the eminence blue frame alnico? Have you ever tried the blue frame? Thank you, cheers
From memory the weber is going to be more tweedy where the 1028k is more modern/neutral but not as cutting/bright as the jensen p10r. Tab Benoit uses the 1028k in his Super Reverb by Category 5. Enjoy ruclips.net/video/eI9NjupVuEA/видео.html
JohnnyLuMaz As far as I know it is the same as the blue frames except for the voice coil former. The blue frames had paper formers instead of the kaptan formers the 1028k have. I have a pair of Mojotone labeled 1028’s with paper formers that are the same speakers as the blue frames. They are just black, and have the Mojotone label. They are very nice. If the 1028ks are anything like them (and my understanding is that they are, but handle more watts) I know I would love them!
I see where you are coming from, it's a fine line.. I love the Weber upper mids here, it's the bass flub I'm not as keen on but this isn't a common characteristics of these Webers. Perhaps a combination of the Eminence and Weber could sound be a good pairing??
The playing is improvable, but the comparison is quite good. Conclusion, both speakers are very similar hence Weber not worth the money and both speakers are crap compared to the vintage originals like the oxford/Jensen or CTS. I'd go for modern Jensen P10R (or the -F version)
True- good comment. Do you still recommend the P10R? I am about to pick up my new vintage 5w tube amp. I like that Princeton tone. I play very low volumes. I welcome your expert recommendations please. My playing is in need of improvement too. Just learned some cool tricks this week though. For the major scale, step back and notice the pattern of 4 up and down the neck and on every string. The W, W, H step thing but it never changes and it is everywhere. It was a cool discovery. Everything is a whole step except between scale degrees III-IV and VII-VIII (or I- octave.) I never thought of the interval quite this way before. Now I cannot un-see it.
I guess if I cared about what dusty old nobodies who noodle in their garage say that would really hurt. Good luck with your videos...maybe when I'm 70 I will be as good as you.
What's the winner in your opinion. What I hear is that the 1028K is just a tad crisper, but the Weber sounds warmer. Does the Emi have better bass response?
Depends on your needs. Tab Benoit uses the Emi because he max's out his amp. For my uses the Weber gives a nicer tone at lower volumes but the Emi can handle the big watts.
I can literally hear different gain settings on the mic and more/less pickup hiss relative to the gain. Mic placement was not the same on these samples. Not a problem, though, because neither speaker should be expected to favor the same mic. Put a ribbon on the outer edge and a 57 mid-cone on both in the exact same cab location and then do this test again - you'll be shocked at how similar they are.
Can't go wrong with an Eminence speaker. I have The governor in my Marshall and I'm putting a 1028k in my Fender around thanksgiving. All though I might have to check out this Weber.
@@nycLPplayer Do you know anything about the Eminence EM 1075 al? This is an Alnico from 1996 and I am not finding out anything about it. It looks like the Legend 1028 K of which I have also seen a 1058 Alnico version.
@@roodsmanroodi3544 There was an older version of this speaker with paper cones that had really biting highs. I think they can be found in the early 90s Fender Bassman or may the 4 speaker Deluxe.

@@nycLPplayer The Speaker has been working in my Box for 2 days now and it already sounds very pleasant. Since it is still playing in, there was still a bit of a lack of Bass at the beginning, but it is now fully present after about 4-5 hours of playing time. Fan of Weber speakers but in this side-by-side, the Legend comes across with so much more clarity.

Why so much time between speaker samples?
IMHO the Weber sounds warmer, fuller and has a better overall balance.
Much agreed!

Why would you suspect that?
I like the Weber as a stand alone. Wonder how either would do paired with a 10” ceramic
The Eminence is basically a copy of the 60's CTS 10" alnicos, with a polyimide voice coil. The Weber is more like a Jensen P10Q.

They're just different. The Webers more complex. The Eminence has more punch.
Eminence is far more accurate. The Weber sounds muddy clean, and like absolute shit with the overdrive sound.
And you think that blatty Eminence sounds better?? Both sound awful, but that's more that amplifier than either speaker.
Tonetwisters both awful. Don’t know how Weber in biz. Eminence in biz because cheap and domestic and oem.
I thought the opposite. Neither is great, but the Weber is better. But it's a cranked Tweed, so you have to account for that.
The Weber smokes it ! The Emi was a fart fest when the least amount of gain was added
Haha!
Weber sounds incredibly better!
