That was down to Clark actually flying, it was established that he had a mental block against flying, also there is a telekenetic aspect to his powers which allows him to protect others when he catches them

The show was fun, but that first scene was terrible. He's going to fall faster than Chloe, then just catch her? Then, he's going to super run to the top of the dam in an instant, than take 2 minutes to set her down and look at her.... while Lana dangles off the edge? He could have run in at super speed and stopped that first guy, and no one would have seen any powers at all. But bad guy would have been REAL suspicious... more than enough to provide complications later.
Spoiler alert: Still one of the most disappointing parts of Smallville (a show I still love today) was Lois finding out Clarks secret (the second time). It was so anticlimactic. It needed to be big and emotional. Still doesn't take away from the great show or their great relationship.
I loved the way she found out. And then when she gets confirmation after saving his life without him knowing was just a beautiful tribute to how critical Louis is. Also, when he finally spills the beans to her in the archives room at the Daily Planet was damn near perfect way to solidify their relationship.

Ok - First off - This show shits on physics. You can't just stop some one's fall and expect them to be ok because they landed in your arms instead of on the ground. Cloey's neck would have been snapped. Second - Has clark never heard of cameras? The way he uses his abilities, he could be seen on a camera on countless occasions.

He slows down, and then runs at full speed. The camera doesn't need to catch him running at full speed, it just needs to show him standing there one second and then being gone the next.
