One of the greatest television shows ever made. It is ridiculous that it has been almost forgotten.

I loved this series as a kid and it helped spur my interest in history. I don't believe I've ever seen this episode before today. Like many of the Great Adventure stories, it is accurate in spirit more than in details. With the ongoing deconstruction of American history, Pratt today is seen more as a villain than a hero because he pushed for forced assimilation of not only Indians, but all immigrants to America. He understood the alternative would mean marginalization and the creation of a permanent underclass. Looking at the chronically poor status of public housing, generational welfare, and reservation life, I would say he was right.

Very good episode, based on a little-known episode in American History. I've been aware of the Carlisle Indian School for decades but never realized its origins were at Ft. Marion in St. Augustine, Fla., a place I visited many years ago. The fort has reverted to its Spanish name, Castillo de San Marcos, operated by the NPS. As for cast, Paul Burke appears a couple of years or so before taking to the skies in "12:00 High". The comely Antoinette Bower always welcome in any show. Many familiar faces among the Indian actors. Always enjoy stories featuring or including the Buffalo Soldiers, rarely portrayed on TV back then. Of course, I recognized Ivan Dixon from "Hogan's Heroes" fame, its premiere still a couple of years away. The Civil Rights Movement was in full swing at this time, so I believe TV productions & networks were taking more care in featuring African-Americans. Overall, well-done series-entry, the film & audio quality pretty good. And how nostalgic & long-forgotten it is to return in memory to a time when network TV commercials were only a minute in length, something I do actually recall!

My family watched this excellent series when I was growing up. Is there any chance we'll get to see the episode about the secret surgery that was performed on President Grover Cleveland?

Define absurdity. This is not on DVD, nor is it ever likely to be.

Some things are deemed, "too good," to be made too available. Particularly when it is intelligent, and teaches. And more particularly when it teaches respect for history and knowledge, an not revisionist propaganda.
