Hey, when it opened in the late 80s/early 90s, the Florida Suncoast Dome (now known as Tropicana Field of course) was quite impressive. I'm kind of shocked that the National League didn't expand to there in 1993. I don't exactly understand what made the National League decide to go to Miami over Tampa Bay. I don't think that Miami shouldn't have picked up an MLB team, but maybe the city should have got an American League expansion team in 1998.
Interesting how only one of those selections actually was chosen for the 1993 MLB Expansion, unless you Tampa Bay and Orlando to count as both being bundled together to create Florida.
Interesting that all these cities ultimately got teams other than Buffalo and Orlando (although Orlando could be a good alternative for the Rays if things don't ultimately work out in Tampa).
I recognize Larry King and Bob Uecker doing the Buffalo and Colorado videos. And I've heard the narrator of the Orlando video in a few promos for Tribune-owned stations. Who's doing the South Florida, Tampa Bay, and Washington DC ones?
I hope the Tampa Bay Rays Stadium drama comes to a end & the Oakland A's go going to Las Vegas saga reach the end of the road,we would have,32 MLB teams for the cities will compete for team 31 and 32 spots .
All of the Florida pitches were just so poor. Orlando’s pitch was flimsy-you could tell they basically knew the market was extremely small and the reliance on tourism to drive the fanbase was insane. Florida/Miami seem to put the least amount of effort into their pitch but had the best prospect in theory-market size and the potential to carry Latino/cuban American interest. The problem was the ownership got saddled with a crook in Huizenga and they’ve never been on stable ground. Tampa/St. Pete? Dear God that Dome. It’s a relic of a time when those facilities were acceptable. I still can’t believe they took it the SECOND time. It probably should have been Buffalo and Colorado. But ultimately there’s no way Florida wasn’t getting an MLB team at some point and it would always be Miami first. It’s the largest market there and, in theory, the points made in the video are all true. They’ve just never had competent ownership to take advantage of it. Also dear lord that Washington video was awful.
The Florida Marlins DIDN'T DESERVE to get that team over Buffalo. DISGRACEFUL. Buffalo has a Major League baseball park RIGHT in the HEART of Downtown. The Marlins played in a HORRIBLY CONVERTED football stadium and they play in a WORTHLESS MONEYPIT NOW!!!
@@chadwickwhite6107I do think Buffalo has the better pitch here but there was no way Florida wasn’t getting an expansion team soon and Miami being the largest market they were going to be the first choice. Problem isn’t the fan support, the guy in their video was correct on all fronts, they absolutely should be a big time team down there amongst Latin America not to mention the Cuban population. But the problem started with ownership and Wayne Huizenga. Guy was a crook from day one, gutted the World Championship team and cheaped out on building a stadium with a roof which hurt then building a fan base since they deal with so many rainouts with their weather. Then by the time they got ownership to push through stadium they did it in a shady way that is taxpayer scam AND demolished the beloved original Orange Bowl to build over the new Marlins Stadium on top of. Bad ownership has kept them from ever realizing what should have been their potential.
MLB baseball finally coming to Buffalo on August 11, 2020!
Thats good to hear.
A GREAT BIRTHDAY PRESENT for me!!!!
I’m kind of surprised that dc didn’t get a team in 1993 looked like they were next on the list after Denver
Lol at Tampa touting their stadium.

I wish Orlando had a MLB team...
lol the “Orlando Rays” was the name they chose.

2.....South Florida woulda been the Marlins.

Just as much as I think a Buffalo team could be a good cross-border rival to the Blue Jays.

BUFFALO WAS ROBBED. Miami didn't EVEN have a STADIUM for the Marlins to play in that didn't SUCK.
Somehow Buffalo was not selected.

@@chadwickwhite6107 Sahlen Field is actually pretty small by major league standards.....although it could be expanded.
