These old British films stand the test of time, George Cole of Minder fame as a boy who acted well. My father use to build the film sets around the time I was born and I have photographs of him with these actors of that time. Thank you for posting.

Lovely to here that ole Top... the bit about your Father.. Yes, Georgie was in top form. Alastair Sim could play any part... always liked Alec Guinness in, "The Card" with gorgeous Valerie Hobson and a young Petula Clark. and "Sink Me" I can never forget Leslie Howard as the Scarlet Pimpernel. The good old days. Always liked seeing Triumph and BSA motorcycles in the films. I've had both... too old to ride now. Nothing sounds like a cammed up Bonneville at full chat. Peace out from Texas.

I believe George Cole was a protege of alistair sim’s. I might be making this last bit up but I think alistair sim and his wife adopted the young Cole. They certainly took him under their wing.

This has always been one of my favourite films. It was based on a stage play, and was George Cole's very first screen appearance - Alistair Sim was, in effect, his adoptive father, and sensational in this film. If you want another Alistair Sim gem, hunt down Green For Danger, a wartime hospital murder mystery. Leslie Banks was a remarkable actor and human being - badly injured in WW!, when playing the hero he was photographed from his good side, when playing the villain from his 'bad' side. He played the quirky Inspector Slade in another classic murder mystery, The Arsenal Stadium Mystery, which combined real life footballers with murder sleuthing.

You know that WW1 took out huge chunks of the British, French, German etc male population so lots of kids during this time had no fathers either. And that’s before you factor in fathers dying in WW2 which was going on when this was filmed.
