"Money and technology has never won wars" really. The sanctions are having an effect or the Russian bank wouldn't have had to cancel trading in the Rubel when it shot over 100 to the dollar. Was that some random person off the street.
Naive. The Central Bank of the Russian Federation plays with the ruble exchange rate as it needs to. Especially now, when there are no Western players on the Moscow Exchange, who usually play on the devaluation of the ruble. In the first year of Western sanctions against the Russian banking system, the ruble exchange rate soared above all optimal values. But since the sanctions simultaneously reduced Russia's exports, the high ruble exchange rate was not so critical. But now, when export volumes have exceeded even pre-war levels, Russia cannot afford a high ruble exchange rate. And it must be said that several times before the war, the Central Bank also lowered the exchange rate to 100 rubles per dollar. And this is always done at the end of the year, in the fall, before large businesses close their tax debts.
@ except that Russian exports are still well below pre-war levels. China and India buy less than Europe and benefit from hefty discounts. It’s not hard to understand.

It precipitated the fall of the USSR. Yeltzin just saved face in order to solidify his authority. But, when Ukraine left, it retained a lot of Russian areas that have always been Russian. This whole thing is a failure that has its roots decades ago, this is not new... And in order to understand it you have to think about the history since the fall of the Soviet Union in 1991. First, Russia is not communist, they haven't been since the end of the Cold War in 1991. Russia is for Russia, they are nationalists, and love their country, unlike our current leftists "leaders" in DC who hate our own nation. The Russians remember how we (the US and the snotty Europeans) kept them separated from the European Union after the fall of the Soviet Union in 1991, on the floor, bloodied, and broke... no one came to help them, no one came and said you are part of us now... They have been kept excluded from Europe, and set to the sidelines by the Clintons, and other American and European administrations. It is like the new kid in the playground, wanting to be part of the group of regular kids, but they keep him to the sidelines, no one plays with him, no ones cares... I was screaming back then to bring the newly liberated Eastern Europeans into NATO, including the Russians! Bring them in, welcome them into the Western family, they had suffered enough. Even when 9/11 happened, the Russians expressed solidarity with us, and signal that they would be with us against the fascists extremists religious fanatics muslims. Putin himself sent a message of "we are with you." But no one listened, no one did what should have been done, and bring in Russia into the fold... And so that alienate kid said F it! We will do it on our own, and will look out for our own people and nation, for no one else will... And ever since them they have lookout for their own... Then you have the Ukrainian buffoon president, who even gave money to biden during the elections of 2020, and who was pushing for NATO to go all the way to the borders of Russia... the Russians remember being invaded again and again throughout their history, and are a paranoid people... the Mongols, the French and Napoleon, the Germans, the Chinese border disputes... and on and on and on... The Russians don't want to face that threat anymore... and so NATO and their tanks right at their border is a no go for them. How would we feel on the other side of the coin if for example Russia had made a military alliance with Mexico, and put Russian tank divisions as part of that alliance at the Mexico Texan border?? Would we had stand for that? of course not! So on this one, the Russians are right. Take over Ukraine to prevent a military NATO expansion that could put other people's tank divisions at their border, with NO guarantees of what can happen to their nation in the future ... the memories of getting invaded sending alarm signals in their heads! I feel for the Ukrainians, for unfortunately they are caught in the crossfire of politics and geopolitical problems, but this mess is on us the West, and a failure to see the big picture, and done the right things with the Russians after the fall of communism in 1991...
You're not paranoid when you've been invaded over and over by your western neighbors. I made a count. Russia has been invaded at least 32 times in the last 1 000 years. That's once every generation. You can't forget when it happens to every generation. The reason we won't stop trying to put a puppet government into Russia is because we need their resources to get ourselves out of debt. We need to get a minimum of $32 trillion out of Russia to break even so we'll keep throwing more money into any war with Russia on the chance that we might win one of them someday. I've been talking to Ukrainians lately. They have never been told about the part the US has played in starting their war with Russia (They've been told it's Russian propaganda.) and they will never back down and neither will Russia and the US will never stop trying to loot Russia's resources. We thought Vietnam was a quagmire? It was small time compared to this one. I have friends there and I hope for a peaceful solution there but I don't expect one. The best I can do is to try to convince them it will be better for them if they get out while they still can.
Do you think there should be a period of time that passes from being a communist expansionist country to being a new best friend? If it was Putin's idea to keep NATO at a distance, he has failed miserably with the Scandinavian countries joining NATO, a defensive alliance that has never attacked any country, in fear of what they see Russia doing with Ukraine. His actions have put NATO closer to St Petersburg than would have ever happened without his invading Ukraine. Russia is now depleted more than at any time since the end of WWII. If Putin wants the war to end, it can happen today, leave the country he has attacked and invaded. (I actually agree that the West should have at least shown the promise of an olive branch and did not.) The U.S has an obligation to support Ukraine in their fight because we committed that support for them giving up nuclear weapons when the USSR broke up. (A very similar situation the UK faced when Germany went into Poland at the start of WWII, fulfilling an earlier promise).
Your summary seems devoid of one simple fact. The Russian pysche is Imperealist and aggressive, they had every oppourtunity to integrate , its not all the fault of the west, that is a simplistic view.
@@luistpuig That's not an entirely unfair analysis. But, it seems a tad skewed. I think the lasting principle to remember is that every nation is going to normally work in its own self interests. That means that Moscow is going to try to cobble bits and pieces of the old Soviet Union together over time. They need those resources. And that's just how the world proverbially turns. They'll meet both success and failure. But in the final analysis, come what may, the US does well to only consider what's in its own self interests, both economically and from a national security standpoint. The problem is graft. The US is replete with politicians and bureaucrats who love a bribe. That situation is not in the best interests of the United States, and is likely the largest problem that the incoming administration should solve.
Neither are Ukraine's. They've accepted that the territory held by Russia can only be potentially regained through future political and diplomatic negotiations. What they want is security from further Russian aggression where Russia tries to take more Ukranian territory. A security guarantee that can only be provided by NATO membership or Ukraine once again becoming a nuclear power.

@@paoloporchetti1563 Exactly. If sanctions are so innefective, why is it that putin wants those lifted up?? Russian economy should be immnune to sanctions, by his own ideas and statements...

Obuma lost Crimea to Putin that ship sailed years ago.
WHY>>>easy...who doesn't want to make more money
Cause sanctions indeed never work and never did work. Look at Iran, North Korea, Cuba, Venezuela. The issue with sanctions is that even if the whole country is poor to a point where people are eating grass and bugs, the "leaders" are still rich and people never rebel against them. This is beyond me how kim and his family can be still in power in North Korea at this point but well, here we are. And nothing will change, no matter how bad the "sanctions" will be.

It’s rubble, not rubel! It’s actually rubbles because you need a lot to make anything out of it!
@paoloporchetti1563 back to frontline to win for the comedian you little boi
They are losing there, now chop chop

@RatTerminator Well, that's precisely what would occur with an economic deal. The issue is the oil. That, and some ethnic issues. Ukraine was the second largest state in the Soviet Union. It precipitated the fall of the USSR. Yeltzin just saved face in order to solidify his authority. But, when Ukraine left, it retained a lot of Russian areas that have always been Russian. This entire scenario can most likely be summed up as unfinished business from 1992. Probably an oversimplification. But, an American flag doesn't belong adjacent to a no-compromise comment on the matter. If compromise is in the best interests of the United States, that is precisely what should occur. Allowing for compromise is an American ideation. The US Constitution is a giant compromise from beginning to end. Only authoritarians aren't open to compromise.

Russia did not cut cable AP news article
BERLIN (AP) - Finnish police said Tuesday that “there is no reason to suspect any criminal activity” in connection with damage to two data cables running across the land border between Sweden and Finland, saying the damage was created by excavation work.💯 Do better
Well not really. Check finland news and check Alex STUBB... president of finland. WE KNOW WHO DID IT... that's what he said
This whole thing is a failure that has its roots decades ago, this is not new...
Putin himself sent a message of "we are with you."
But no one listened, no one did what should have been done, and bring in Russia into the fold...
