Well, the rolls that you're doing with no problems, and they look like you've been doing them for years, think back to when you couldn't even do that. These new ones will come eventually. Sometimes salt on the tongue helps with the sickness. Maybe put some in a zip lock bag and try it next time out for the heck of it. You're my hero Bro.......
haha thanks Bill! I never thought about salt.. that's something new for me. You're right that earlier this year, I couldn't even do a roll.. this gives me more inspiration to continue to learn more!
You, sir, have cost me a fair bit of cash. I was *mostly* happy with my Oru Bay ST, but after watching video after video of you in that beautiful Pakayak, I took delivery of one today, and in the same color. Thank you for your videos and inspiration.
Really good to see you finished a perfect on-side Standard Greenland Roll on your PAKAYAK. Before the armpit roll, I would recommend to do the roll with your Albow Crook first, start moving your kayak first. As you can see the armpit roll you did on the video, the paddle start moving before the leg initiated. You have to really open your body under the water while your leg drive and that is something similar to the butterfly roll.
Hi Corey! So happy to hear you’re going to learn kayak rolling! You’ll be so happy when you do your first one! Good luck and would love to hear more of your progress!
Your rolling vids are really helping my own journey. Just started and determined to keep going! I know it'll be worth it. Thanks for the great content 👍
Hi and thanks, Fishaholicboy for sharing. I can see your struggle. You are anxious to be perfect and master the roll. Give yourself a little break as you did and reward yourself for what you accomplished so far. After all, we kayakers shall enjoy paddling. I saw the whitewater kayakers practice with nose-clip on and this technique will be mastered in a few months, I assume. You may consider learning how to be rescued by other sea-kayakers as well. The sea is always different, tide, current, winds..so many obstacles we will not expect..Many sea kayakers make a trip as a team in harsh weather. You will never be alone. I like watching you enjoy kayaking for sure. Well done. Sorry for the delay in commenting since K7S had a BD and we were out.🙋♀🙋♀🛶🛶
Thanks! Maybe I'm hard on myself haha but it's definitely fun and I really enjoy this process. I've done kayaking courses with many rescues.. maybe I should practice these more as well like you mentioned :)
@@Fishaholicboy Yes, I see your determination every time you practice. I think that you try to achieve above the expectations/goals which you already are at. You should be proud of yourself. 🙋♀🙋♀🛶🛶
One thing. Doing practice when you set up before you go over is far more easy when you capsize by mistake. So put your paddle down on the wrong side, capsize, pick up paddle, then roll.
One way to learn this is to put paddle on paddle leash, capsize without holding on to the paddle, and when underneath the water, grab the paddle to do the roll. But the fact the he could always fall back on the standard greenland roll means he shouldn't have a problem with this.
Your rolls are looking really good. I got motion sick while practicing rolls a couple weeks ago. It was particularly bad while I was laying back with my head in the water. I took a break and took it easy the rest of the day. I suspected it was water in my ear, so the next day I used ear plugs while practicing.
Odd to me, I did about 2.5hrs of rolling training in an Oru and never got motion sickness. I was in the Coast Guard, however and am used to the motion of the water...wonder if this is a factor?
@@goldenu2 I wish I was you! But I do believe you being a Coast Guard helps. I was never really good on boats before but kayaking helped me with motion sickness. Rolling I suppose is something I will also get used to soon!
@@Fishaholicboy You are *killing it*, and I can only hope to: 1. approximate your skill in the rolls, and 2. pray that some day I might visit the 200+ islands of Hong Kong.
This is so awesome!! I also get motion sickness when rolling, but a fellow paddler recommended Dramamine and using ear plugs. So thankful and relieved it that it actually helps a lot. I take it a couple hours before a rolling session and it works! No more motion sickness! Great video!!
Thanks for the tip for motion sickness! I get it sometimes.. just depends on the way I think. How’s your rolling journey going!? BTW, did you order the Trak?
@@Fishaholicboy Rolling has been really fun! I think I’ve got the layback roll pretty locked in with both Greenland and euro paddles. I’m working on being consistent with the Sweep, Sweep to C and the C to C for whitewater. The paddlers here have been so kind to loan boats to roll while I wait for the NDK to arrive (won’t arrive until spring of next year), so I’ve had a lot of fun trying out various boats to practice rolling. I really love the idea of the Trak (it’s still in the shopping cart, lol), but I really wanted something immediate to have to use now. The price and the long wait for a next Spring arrival for another boat is the concern. If I find the yellow and teal version of the Trak 2.0 that was available now, I’d grab it immediately. Fingers crossed!
I have been looking forward to your rolling videos. You have great forward finishing posture with the float. My left side is weak too. But I think it useful to have a confident roll each on one side. BTW, the armpit roll is more commonly known as shotgun roll, I think.
Thanks! I really enjoy watching your rolling videos too! Agree that we should be able to roll sides.. it just feels so awkward. With my forwarding finishing roll with the float, I think my main problem is still not enough leg drive. That’s something I need to really focus on
@@Fishaholicboy Packayak has high volume front deck. Might need to use foam or something to tighten the body to kayak connection, but it becomes a risk factor as well
@@88kayak yes, I think I need to figure out a way. I’m also thinking about renting a kayak for my rolling journey going forward. Will decide what to do soon!
Thanks for the tip.. definitely needs muscle memory. I did hurt my shoulder a few sessions ago but it’s recovered well however I’m scared to hurt it again and will approach it slowly
Nothing wrong with your offside roll except you did not finish the sweep and came up too early. Also you sat upright rather than lie on the back deck and only then sit up. The sickness can be as a result of cold water in your ear and against your eardrum. Some people use earplugs to prevent this.
You aren't a padawan anymore. The force is with you!
I am ready for my test Master Jedi 😂
@@Fishaholicboy Am far from being a Master Jedi, am but an old youngling :)

Appreciate it!

So badass to see you do the standard roll in a pakayak so expertly now!! Definitely an inspiration to other pakayak owners like us :)
haha thanks! I hope other Pakayak owners will try this too! Have you tried?
I’m glad you did this with the gear lab float. Thanks

Super positive and fun..."Never Give Up" ✌️ that's such a beautiful spot.

That’s definitely a good one to practice! And also without my goggles.. definitely need to experience a more real scenario to get better
I recall that I used to able to hand roll in the pool…but never managed any rolls in the river
Great paddle to roll with Ive been using the GLO Kalleq quite often in my sessions.

Yes.. have to keep practicing! Though sometimes is hard to continue.. but gotta keep at it!
You should consider dry rolling before going to the water so that you are not tired out and is by grabbing your bolster and roll on the bed ….😅

Really hard to hold the paddle

Thank you David! All is well.. just don't really have the time to make videos for a while. Hope to be back soon. Thank you for supporting!
Does it really work if you roll over in a regular paddling position, without pre positioning yourself or paddle ?
Definitely! The setup position is to make things easier but you don't need to be in that position.
Yeah, don't push too hard in a single session. Rolling skill takes time to sink into the muscles and brain.
