    Great review Mark, thanks. However, unless I'm missing something, there seems to be a fundamental security issue with the Loqed Smart Lock. You show that from the inside, the lock can be unlocked simply by twisting the knob. Surely then if you have a letterbox that is within arms length of the lock, all a burglar has to do, is reach through and twist the knob to gain access to your house? Is there some way that the "twist to unlock" feature can be disabled? I've read somewhere that there is a "night lock" feature, so does that perhaps disable the "twist to unlock" function? Hope you can help, as this is a smart lock I'm seriously considering buying, but won't be if it's as insecure as I'm fearing.

      @MarksTechVlogs  6 месяцев назад

      Hey, you can disable the twist assist but not the twist to unlock however, this isn't really any different from thumb turn cylinders in terms of the letterbox issue. The night lock feature is just an auto lock feature. The Nuki has the same theoretical issue with letterboxes too however does protrude more so I think it would be very unlikely someone would be able to twist it by getting a hand through a letterbox.
      The other option is to also upgrade a letterbox to something like this: yalehome.co.uk/supasecure-letterplate-polished-stainless-white

      @@MarksTechVlogs Thanks for confirming Mark. My existing conventional lock allows me to lock the door with a key from the inside and so if anyone reaches through the letterbox, they can't unlock the door. It seems therefore like the Loqed (and possibly other Smart locks?) are therefore inherently less secure. That's a great suggestion to use the Yale high security letterplate though and I think that's the route I'll go. Thanks for all your help - really appreciated.

    Thanks for the review. Ive got a ultion nuki setup on one door and i was looking for another lock for my other door. Nuki ticks every box except its a big bulky thing so i was hoping to find a suitable slim lock but the lack of mechanical key is a turn off. Ive got no concerns about the battery but if the electronics fail then youre locked out.
    I think some company is missing a trick here.
    Get all the abilities of a nuki in a slim package like this one with the spindle disengagement of the simpled and it would be a winner

      That’s a pretty good point, I’ve seen a bit about the Aqara A100 recently which might tick those boxes but it’s not yet (I think) available in the UK

      I agree...when I was creating the Homebridge plugin I spotted that the API doesn't give the correct battery reading and they sorted that and responded quickly 🙂

    Hi Mark, i was looking at ebay to see what prices these have sold for and spotted you sold yours in November. Was there any particular reason you decided to sell it? What have you got installed now?

    • @MarksTechVlogs
      @MarksTechVlogs  7 месяцев назад +1

      Only reason was switching the back door (where I had this installed) to a Nuki so everything was in one app. I never had any issues with the LOQED and would still recommend it alongside the Nuki to anyone looking 🙂

    After a false start with the Simpled, won't fit. I'm still looking for a smart lock. Nuke is too big, but the LOQED looks better. They so need to put a fingerprint reader on the outside part though. Great channel btw Mark.

      Thanks, interesting idea…would be good to see a fingerprint sensor then you could just go out without your phone

      @@MarksTechVlogs Exactly, plus not everyone has a mobile, young kids, older folk. I could see if being easily added with changing out the outside screen for a fingerprint reader. I have ordered one of these through you Amazon link, arrives tomorrow. Just hope the bluetooth pickup is reliable as they say it is. This will be my third attempt as a smart lock after fighting with the Yale L2 POS last year....
      btw Simpled has a fatal flaw in the design if you'd not spotted it, actually there two on the one-sided version you tested.
      1. The EF and Slim versions can be easily opened through a letter box, if you have one. The newer double sided version fixes this.
      2. Technically your door is never locked it just relying on the outside door handle not to work. Rip the outside handle off and turn the spindle, because there's no lock it will open. This can easily be done in about 2 seconds, which I'll not say how on here or it will give people ideas, but I'm sure there are thieves who will or have, worked it out.
      Also, I asked me insurance about it, they said if the door doesn't have an approved lock then your insurance would be null and void. :(

      @@Cell1969 Yeah, it's where it's a shame Simpled haven't gone after any accreditations for the handle/lock itself. I think you'll be pretty happy with the LOQED, it's easy to install, comes with the Hub and for me has been really reliable so far. I'm looking forward to seeing the difference Matter makes next year when they add it too. (Thank you for using my link, that's really appreciated)

    Hi Mark
    Another informative, well delivered review.
    @6:30 you say that it utilises the existing outside handle however you show rheir new exterior handle.
    Im not a fan of the bolt-on look of the touch pad as it looks a bit amateurish to me and attracts attention. The input of a pin code looks to also be a faff rather than the simplicity of a proper keypad.
    My external handle plate is a "sweet" curved design so im guessing that this would not be suitable?
    I consuder the nuki to be better in looksxas the external handle is no different to the original so doesnt attract unwanted attention, having reviewed both, what are your thoughts?
    Im researching smart locks for my new home, hence my interest.
    You channel is great as you review numerous similar products to compare and assess each locks individual attributes rather than just the one.
    One that is currently on my lust of possibles is the Ruveno slim fingerprint lock that seems to have the flexibility and adaptability without sticking out like a sore thumb, particularly in black, perhaps you might consider a review of this one in the future?

    • @MarksTechVlogs
      @MarksTechVlogs  10 месяцев назад +1

      Thanks David, I actually quite like the touchpad however agree that it may draw attention. The pin-code function is more of a fallback rather than a regular way you'd access it and it's probably better to have it switched off for extra security anyway. You're right that if you have a curved handle it may not be suitable
      The Ruveno is actually very, very similar to the Simpled Smart Lock which I reviewed a few weeks back. The tech behind it uses the same app (TTLock) and so the digital side is largely the same e.g. 128bit encryption etc.) It also has the same downside as the Simpled which means the actual handle has no security credentials whereas the Ultion cylinder that comes with the Ultion Nuki and the LOQED cylinder/handle do have 3* ratings.

      Yes, I continued reviewing your Simpled lock review after this video, I'm guessing that it is a rebrand.
      I have left a query on that review.

      You can also open it from the inside with the app but most of the time using the knob is easiest especially with the twist assist functionality

  • @alexandregillan
    @alexandregillan 10 месяцев назад

    why they make all these tech and features to still need to lift the handle to lock the door? isn’t the whole purpose of a smart lock to lock the door automatically? I get the other benefits but to still need manual work and pay hundreds for it? is there one that we dont need to lift?

    • @MarksTechVlogs
      @MarksTechVlogs  10 месяцев назад +1

      It’s largely due to how the mechanics of the multi-point doors work. There is now the Ultion Bolt which is a new multipoint mechanism designed to work with their Ultion Nuki smart lock which will be able to lock itself without any manual action but the bolt is currently only available via door fitters so can’t be installed or purchased yourself.
