My sister gifted me hers, a few years ago and it is nearly my most prized possession... I have an F2, so I really don't need any other 35mm camera's....
Hello, I am 66 yrs old and grew up with 1960's ~ 1980's era Nikon cameras and lenses. I am an avid Nikon collector now. I was toying with the idea of leaving a detailed comment about the self-timer, DOF preview and a rebuttal to whomever thinks that these are "lame", but decided to scrap that. I'll make just a brief comment. Great video. I love the Nikon F2 (along with the F, F3 and various Nikkormat models from that time-period). All are top shelf in construction and operation. The non-AI, AI and AI-S manual focus lenses are superb. Looking forward to your next video. Even though there is a big age gap (my kids are around your age), I do enjoy and appreciate your sense of humor, style and love for film photography. Looking forward to your next video. Best, Steve
My F2 took a rather mysterious journey into my possession. It was given to me last year by a buddy who just happened to have it rotting away in his room after learning that I had started getting into film photography, thanks in large part to this channel. He said that back in college some guy he only loosely knew owed him money. Not having any money to speak of, the guy eventually produced a Nikon F2 from... somewhere, and offered it to my buddy as payment. Not knowing what else to do, he accepted it without asking questions, and then promptly forgot about it until my entry into this crazy hobby. After cleaning it up, it works great, and is one of my more prized weapons.
Every photography how-to / advice channel I've seen consistently gets blown out of the water by your composition. One of the best lessons I get from your videos is that composition shouldn't come from a guide, it should come from your balls.
You just cannot go wrong with any Nikon professional camera from that era. Take your pick... F, F2, F3, FM2\3 FE/FE2, its a whole herd of camera beasts.
Here's a hot take, FE2 is the best of the bunch. Yes its electronic, but they simply fail so rarely its a non issue. 1/4000 max shutter and a damn good meter. Though the FM3a is the GOAT
Great cameras. Got my F2A (improved meter head, but not the AS), and FE2 in 1979/1980 while at stationed at Yokota AB near Tokyo in Japan. I have to say I like the FE2 more due to it being smaller and easier to handle, plus the motor drive makes it a beast. But no matter, both are still in excellent condition, hardly a mark on the black paint. But I have been smitten by my new Sony cameras. I still take some photos but I really miss the days I spent in the dark room developing negatives and making prints in black and white. Automating film development today sucks, too expensive. Now I just enjoy shooting with the incredible Sony cameras (A7R3, A74 and a6600). Will I ever sell my Nikons? Maybe if someone comes to me with a suitcase full of cash.
I don't take any opinions seriously from anyone who says Nikkor lenses are lame, and I'm not even a nikon shooter. They are, objectively, incredible lenses.
Good enough for Kubrick on Full Metal Jacket. He decided that since basically the whole Vietnam War was photographed through Nikkor glass, he would do the same for full authenticity and basically pre-empted the whole trend of rehousing vintage stills lenses for filmmaking by about 40 years. He was also anal as fuck about lens sharpness and colour rendering too, so if they were good enough for him and his 100+ takes of Animal Mother telling Joker he's gonna tear him a new asshole, they're probably good enough for a hipster shooting California on Portra.
@@yetanotherbassdude Yeah they’re objectively incredible, there’s subjective things with photography and objective things, and their lenses are objectively incredibly well made. Never understood the Nikon hate and like I said, I don’t shoot Nikon, I don’t have a bias but I think it’s just flat out ignorant to say any of this old Nikon stuff is “bad”, it’s just straight up not true haha
Maybe this is a double comment because I sometimes watch and re-watch your videos while I'm working, even if I've already watched one youtube's algorithm will circle me back around to you, so if I'm a dummy and have already said this, I apologize. I got a Nikon F with the T Finder a few months back and loved it so much that I shortly after found a great deal on a Nikon F with the FTN finder. I tracked down Nikkor lenses for the pair in 28mm f3.5, 50mm f2.0, 135mm f2.8 (that one has a built-in retractable lens hood that deserves nothing less than the word 'nifty') and a 43-86mm zoom f3.5. I love the pair, and they are beast machines for making great images. I imagine the F2 is equally well built from your descriptions. I love your videos and not only are you funny as s+++ in your deadpan delivery, but your work inspires me. So just putting that out there for you to do with as you will. You and Lucy Lumen are like, two of my favorite photo people in the world. Keep it up. No, please....seriously keep it up....the worlds burning down around us and your videos, inspiration and feeding of my aspirations toward being a legit artist and pushing me in the medium are one of the things keeping me going these days. Love all of it.
I started shooting film in 2005. I never liked Nikon cameras until I got an F2 in my hands in 2018. The F2 is probably the best constructed 35mm I have ever shot, brilliant camera
I remember about 15 years ago a coworker razzing me because my D40 only had 6 megapixels vs. his Canon-whatevers 12. I spent today hooting with it and got some great photos, like I always did. Your Nikon F2 is glorious. Film just looks so natural, it's so worth the headaches!
I wanted to sell my Nikon f4 a few times, but i keep falling in love with it over and over again. There is something about this camera that makes me feel like it's the "perfect" film camera.
F2 was far from basic. It was in its day what is one of the most advanced 35mm camera systems on the market. So reliable, it remained on sales shelves right next to the brand new F3. Because even back then old timer pros were uncertain of new technology of the electronic shutter & advanced micro computer TTL flash of F3 Today, it may be more camera than an amateur or hobbyist may need but it’s flippin awesome fun to use
I just got a Nikon F2 (the silver one) and it is very nice, I have three lenses for it (35mm f/2.8, 50mm f/2.8, 135mm f/2.8, and 70-210 f/3.75) I've been using Kodak Gold 200 and I'm so glad I got it! It's been so fun to use!
Literally came here to post this. Hasn't come up a lot in my shooting with mine, but when it has it's been *super handy* (coincidentally also the title of my pornstar memoirs). No more fumbling with a stopwatch function on a watch or phone while also trying to trip the cable release to close the shutter at the right time when doing longer exposures on a tripod, just set the timer and hit go for anything up to 10 seconds. For a camera old enough to be yelling about the kids on its lawn, the mechanics of the timer in mine have also been absolutely spot-on accurate across the whole range of exposure times it can do.
Years ago I took an FG and 50 rolls of Velvia and Provia to the Himalayas. That camera gave perfect exposures for the whole month, in 60C below zero at altitudes up to 6,500m (21,000 feet) on Mera Peak, despite shocking weather and very rough hiking. They all laughed at the start, but at the end they all wanted scans of my shots! Still in love with that little beast.
Man, the colors at 4:26 compared to the video of the same thing just a few seconds earlier, the difference is night and day. So much juicy colors in the shadows.
The last video he made he mentioned analog god and showed a picture of Baxter. It hurts me to say it but i dont think Baxter is with us anymore :( I hope im wrong! 9:55 last video.

I was a little late to the F2 bodies. I started with a new F in about 1970, and took forever to move onto an F3. It was spectacular. I skipped the F4 as well, and the F5 was tremendous. But then, in the process of filling in the voids, got myself a nice F2T, and run the DP-12 on it, making it that F2AS you mentioned. It’s a very good meter for the incredible F2. The most similar camera to my F2T is one of my Leicaflex SL2 bodies. They seem very similar. Of course, I couldn’t afford a Leicaflex SL2 when they came out back in the mid-70s, but time solves a lot of issues! But, I’m basically a Nikon guy, with about 50-60 Nikkor lenses. You make both an informative and entertaining video! Your dry humor reminds me of my best friend in high school, but we’re now approaching 70 and done with being responsible. Good job.
I covet my black F Apollo eye level finder the most, a perfect accessory for a leisurely Sunday. An FA has the best handling and is a trouble free joy to use.
Fixed thousands in my shop, totally agree and the MD4 was so reliable, parts were easily obtained from EPOI and Nikon USA. My favorite 35 with a nikkor 28 , 2.8
Bought an F2 a couple years ago with the meterless prism and its my fave camera. Started with a 50mm pancake lens and got a 28mm not too long ago I need to use more.
Oh boy Jason with his subtle flex of the rare Titanium Nikon F2. Jokes aside, I'm glad someone badass here is giving the F2 some overdue love. Everybody wax poetic of the Nikon F3 and the history of the F, but the F2 gets rare attention despite being arguably the camera with specs many film aficionados want nowadays; fully mechanical, 1/2000 shutter speed, a built in light meter (depending on the head), good and easily accessible lens, and aesthetic. I have the F, F2, and F3, but my goodness is the F2 a fun beast to use.
Not to mention the F2 was built better than most tanks. Can be used to frame houses, pound tent stakes and if someone tries to mug you hit them in the head with it.
I finally got my F-2 fixed. I am looking forward to getting a roll or three through it. Funny how much of a grip that camera has on us. The F-2 feels good in my hand.
So surprised to see Naomi Uemura mentioned in the video, he’s a true legend! Can’t agree with you more, my F2 will probably be the last camera standing in my camera collection🥲
As a recent owner of a very nice Nikon F2S, it simply makes all my other 35mm cameras feel cheap by comparison, it is amazing, A leica may be the exception to that but I sure won't be finding that out any time soon.
Another great one. The photos at 7:29 and 10:12 really sing, one about what the trailer must have been like when new and the other showing off a comfy present. Juxtaposed, they demonstrate time and decay. Quite the trip you had!
I've used an FA for a number of years now. It's an all time great. I'd guess it compares really favorably with the F2 if anyone is looking for an alternative.
Can definitely vouch for the FA, that matrix meter it's got is no slouch too. Though I'll definitely admit I'm still looking for an F2 to grab, what a gorgeous camera
I have the Nikon F2, FM, and FM2n and the F2 is definitely the most satisfying to use. I have it with the DE-1 eye level finder and type B focusing screen to give it a pure, minimalist feel. I’ve been looking for a DW-1 wlvf but they’re super hard to find and usually expensive.
Finally a cover of the famous F2! It's my favorite 35mm camera haha (aside from being heavy af!) If you want the best of both worlds for the finder, there's a version of the F2 with the DP-3 finder called Nikon F2SB. It has the same spec as the DP-12 but uses the rabbit ear to register the aperture. I personally enjoy jerking the aperture every time I put on a lens with that finder!
It’s a fabulous camera, feels mechanically precise and a pleasure to use. There’s someone on ebay selling grips for F2 (no relation) that completely transform the hand held handling and I highly recommend that.
I use DoF preview all the time to...preview the DoF. Also, the self-timer does more than delay the shutter. It also acts as the shutter release for long (2-10 second) exposures.
nice camera! I was on the hunt for an all mechanical nikon to use as my main 35mm slr. I considered the f2 and I really wanted an fm3a. I ended up getting a good deal on a minty fm2t this spring and it is my favorite 35mm camera ever. It is just as nice and way more useful than the leica m3 i once had (much less expensive too). It's perfect imo
It's me! I love blinding people with the flash! Give the F a try sometime, it's like the F2 but heavier and harder to load! Jokes aside, I love that my F doesn't need to have the lever half open to use the light meter. Dunno who thought that going from an on/off button to that would be better. The FM2 poked me in the eye every time I wanted to like it. For the record, Nikkor lenses are amazing for their age. I use the 105 2.5 and the 85 1.8 regularly, and the 85 even comes in a chunkier, light sucking-er, 1.4 version.
I love how simple these older classic models look, I have two Canon F-1 and love the sound they make when firing the shutter. The second one I had to buy to keep me warm at night, and to wake up it being the 1st thing I see.
I bought the Nikon F2 brand new in 1975. That beast has been with me for nearly 50 years and still going strong today!
I got it from a thrift store... and you've guessed it.... for 5 dollars.
Absolute! I bought mine in 1976 and it has never failed. Whenever a RUclipsr praises the F2, I always think, "Yep, I have one...!"

@@DylanPackard exactly. the meter has been super.
Soooo cool :-) !!!!!!!!!
I love the explanation of the camera functions with these kind of "hands" :-)
I enjoyed the video a lot !
The hand model was great. Very talented.
Finally a cover of the famous F2! It's my favorite 35mm camera haha (aside from being heavy af!)
If you want the best of both worlds for the finder, there's a version of the F2 with the DP-3 finder called Nikon F2SB.
It's almost like you can't hold it without those over-priced 3D printer grips..
@@Milan-eu4kp they are actually machined and powder coated metal and are very well made. Worth every penny.
@@haimtoeg Okay Okay I believe you but still did you buy it because you really had to or was it more a retail therapy for you?
I use DoF preview all the time to...preview the DoF. Also, the self-timer does more than delay the shutter. It also acts as the shutter release for long (2-10 second) exposures.
Came for the F2 but hurt my back falling off my chair laughing!
Ha! I’m in Norway right now borrowing my friend’s F2. It’s a great camera
Some of your best images actually with that camera tbh.
I got my F2 with eye level in December and I love that camera.
I love the little hands !
Serious kit! Great trip! Lovely long exposure!
Great, I have Praktica B200 and it's so good
I’ll waffle stomp that like button!!!
Wow same
yesss girlllll
I love my F2, it may be as heavy as some of my LF cameras but it is rugged and has never had issues
nice camera!
Love my Nikoin F2's, a pair F2AS's, pair of F2A's, a F2SB, F2S and a regular F2 photomic.
Can you please make the pictures in the video smaller?
Yeah as a phone viewer I almost saw one of the pictures. Unacceptable.
The extra added drama of you getting that Nion F2 loaded with that fresh roll of Kodak gold 200... Sintillating...
More ventriloquist doll hands please 😍
In my collection the F2 is my favourite 35 mm camera!
I use my f2 with the DW-1 waist level finder and it's a lot of fun.
Not an F2, but I've shot with a 1970s era Nikon FE for 10 years and only needed to get it repaired once. Still going strong. Eat that, Leica
You're like the Daria of film photography yt channels & I respect that 🙏
I’ve been waiting for this video since I discovered an F2 in my grandpas attic a couple of years back, and thus found your guide to 35mm! 🖤
A pigeon with ripped biceps hahaha i lost it.
The way you talk is just pure joy! Would you ever review Konica C35 EF? Really curious why it was Warhol’s favorite camera!
My collection is 5 F2 and various finders up to the last one. plus plain finder, my preference.
More of the tiny hands in the future. Please an thank you.
I love your videos, your humour and You.
You should try the Nikon Fe2. It has a shutter speed of 1/4000th. Which is a massive step up from the 1/2000th.
I have both an F and and F2. Love the both of them, but having the ability to go up to 1/2000 does give an edge to the F2.
I was just in Bombay beach! Made a video about it too! Amazing to see you there as well!
I love how simple these older classic models look, I have two Canon F-1 and love the sound they make when firing the shutter. The second one I had to buy to keep me warm at night, and to wake up it being the 1st thing I see.
I want an F-1 so bad
