Cassandra Lee Morris (Suguha's VA) performance in this episode is fucking incredible. An all-time great bit of voice acting.
Agreed. Shes a pro. Strongest voice performance no doubt.
But.. Yuki Kaji's wife did it better.
If you want best voice acting of all time look up "When Supernatural Battles Became Commonplace- I don't understand". Best scene ever I got the chills listening to it. The best part is that it was all in one take.
Yeah, she does do a great job. Honestly though, I pretty much love all of the main character voice actors in SAO (Cherami Leigh, Bryce Pappenbrook, Stephanie Sheh, Christine Marie Cabanos, Sarah Williams, Patrick Seitz, Kirk Thornton, then Michelle Ruff and Erika Mendez from the second season). Also, even though this was the role I first heard Cassandra Morris in, I'll always associate her with her role as Taiga in Toradora!, where she also gives a fantastic performance.

Best performance ever. I don't care what anyone thinks about the relationship, this is some serious emotion and you can feel Suguha's pain. This scene always gets me. Your stunned silence was perfect. Welcome to the rollercoaster that is SAO.

This episode was a emotional fest T_____T Sugu's VA did a stellar job at that scene you could literally feel her heart breaking. The worst part is getting heartbroken then after trying to move on and develop feelings for someone else, it turns out to be still kirito and then getting her heart broken twice and shattered it was painful to see tbh. Also if you notice her speech most of her anger and hurt comes from Kirito distancing himself from her more than the unrequited love

Kirito’s monologue kinda explains the point of this arc. It’s not that he’s cocky, it’s just the realization of reality. We need to moved on from the fantasy which is arc 1, to the real world and how harsh it is (consider the weird stuff regarding that bastard and tentacle thingy), how small and limited we are... This is like a transition where “nothing will end, nothing will begin” if nothing is done.
It might also explain why some people including me love Aincrad that much, much more than the following ones. Maybe deep down we all have dreamed about that fantasy world, everything is so beautiful there that when it ends, we feel like facing the tiring things in daily life again.
I like that, I never made that connection before 👍
I really hope the break Suzy takes from her SAO reactions isn't too long because I enjoy them so much, and the following seasons only get better and better!

@@Latinofire202 seasons are basically the arc. Sword art online arc / fairy arc side story ish, gun gale arc and the spin offs + movie and then the underworld arc which is currently going on.
This episode broke me when I first watched it as well. From Kirito failing to the confession, uhhh. :'(

As a viewer I wanted Kirito to find Asuna asap but at the same time I didn't want Sugu's heart to break...
It's hard not to feel bad for Suguha here. That's the real doomed love; a family member, and the show, and even she, knows, like. It's never going to happen. Ever. But it still rips her up inside. Leafa/Suguha basically carry this entire arc; I was able to watch through it to the end, uh, pretty much entirely due to her.
That's probably why so many don't like this arc. They just ignoring all that drama and focusing on other things like the faction conflict or the sci fi stuff or Asuna's family stuff with her deranged fiance. . . wait her family stuff is drama too. Maybe they just don't like Suguha?

The scene were Suguha confess was pretty deep and it stroke me to the core, and it’s still is every time I’ve watched.
Suzy’s reactions literally give me life, there were so many feelings during that segment. Even Leafa’s voice actress reacted to it and brought up a lot of feelings as well even voicing that part, so happy Suzy could react to this, hope she reacts to SAO Season 2, Part 2.

This is where one of the big themes of SAO comes to the forefront again, the fact that no matter what barriers we on our lives, even ones as literal as an entire artificially constructed world where we choose new names and take on new faces, those barriers are just constructs, and they are not absolute. No matter how we try to separate our actions in one context from those in another, they're still our actions, and they still have an impact on us and those around us.
The decision (by mass agreement, for anonymity) to try and segregate real life and virtual life is what led to this tragedy taking place. If it weren't taboo to talk about real life in games, Suguha and Kirito could have both known from the start exactly who the other was. She still would have had the problem of trying to get over her cousin, but she (probably) wouldn't have fallen in love with him even harder in the process of trying to do so.
Such an amazing view. Not many people take note of that especially on their first viewing but it's something that comes up prominently in SAO. This isn't even the first instance of it in the anime but it's certainly one of the most powerful
I forgot how much of a clusterfuck of emotions this scene was. I thought this was about the love stuff but it just encompassed their entire relationship. Regardless your views on the incest part it's a pretty emotional scene. I feel like people put way too much thought into that subject, they act as if sugu had no shame over some incest stuff. she clearly felt terrible about liking a family member. Also...it's fucking anime xD weird shit happens all the time. so rip :p great video Suzy. I think an earlier comment put it best, your reaction was as if you were outside next to them witnessing this xD
You said you wanted to see how she reacted when she found out. This is one of the most heartbreaking scenes I have seen in an anime. I am sure someone have mentioned it but are you aware that her voice actor also does Morgana in Persona 5?
Yeah, this episode is really good, even if it is heartbreaking. It's nice to see everything come to a head, and as much as people love to rip on this arc, I love that it still treats this story respectfully; Suguha is a really tragic character, and even if her feelings are uncomfortable, you feel sorry for her because she knows that they're not right and tries to push them away, only for fate to be particularly cruel. It reminds me more than a bit of the storytelling style that you would get in a traditional Greek tragedy.
Kirito's solo attempt reminds me a lot of Mufasa in The Lion King. No matter how many times I see it, I keep hoping this time he just might make it. >.>

You should read the light novels. This part is just as intense as in the show. Maybe more cause you get Suguha's inner thoughts as she goes through it.

i definitely picked the best channel to see Naruto and SAO reactions, the way Suzy reacto to everything and the way she gets into characters emotional moments is very similar to mine and therefore i am having a blast reacting to her reacting to the shows.
I can tell by your genuine reaction that you are someone who has experienced heartbreak like Sugu has. I know, because I‘ve also been there before. It was so easy for people to dismiss this arc but it does a really good job showing us Kirito and Sufi’s relationship. Yes it’s not as strong as the first arc (or the one after this), but I never tell anyone to skip it.
Also, this was my first time watching the dub, and wow Sugu’s English VA absolutely captured the emotions of that scene.
Yepp this episode shows the "real danger" of MMOs, special when NOT using voice chat ( TS, Discord and so on ) in the guild / party. I have been through that a lot. On the other hand i met my 2nd rl-wife in a MMO and we had some wonderful years.

Everyone have their own specific favorite arc in SAO. But SAO is good because it has done a nice work in showing the character development of Kirito throughout the series. The introvet and shady in SAO, the helpless and romance in ALO, the guilty and darkness in GGO, the steady and dependable in Zekken arc, and the friendships and ?gayness? in Alicization arc.
I think people are missing the point of Suguha's pain. Yes she 'loves' Kazuto; but it's a little more than just a simple girl crush. Her pain comes from how she's repeatedly beaten down by her own bad luck. From Kazuto avoiding her in real life, to him being gone for over 2 years, to coming back and being nice to her, fanning those flames again, only to tell her that he's in love with Asuna, and then to get over him and fall in love with Kirito, only to find out like this that it's still Kazuto. It's heartbreak after heartbreak for her. Kazuto has unknowingly been the cause of all of her pain over the last few years. Unbeknownst to him. Which is why he's mostly stunned and doesn't know what to do as all this is coming out. Put that together with the incredible voice work from Morris and it's one of the best moments in Season One IMO. This whole second arc has revolved around his relationship with his sister. Which they establish in the first arc that he sees her as a 'little sis' when he talks to Silica about her. Even Silica understands more than Kirito at the time that Suguha is a person, not a pet. And that he shouldn't feel 'bad' for the decisions SHE has made. Kirito has a knack for wanting to protect people, but in doing so he ignores their own feelings and sees them as too weak to fend for themselves. Both physically and emotionally. This all comes full circle when he can't even comprehend Suguha's feelings for him in this episode. It's never been something he's thought about, because up until now, Suguha's just been 'little sis'...not a person with their own feelings to him. I think it's fantastic character depth. I can't wait to see more reactions in Season Two from you Suzy!
But she is still his little sister and he doesn't have to accept her feelings. Usually people do not even assume such feelings. Well, or such people need to go to Alabama XD
You really shouldnt take a break after this season..... Mother's Rosario Arc in S2 is a real heart tugger.....

The whole idea of "Suguha is in love with Kirito/Kazuto" is SUPER DUPER stupid, but damn, I was like Suzy the whole scene, even now. They made it so GODDAMN WELL, both in Japanese and English dub.

Also his step sister's reaction is what i expected for someone of someone in high hopes for something good only to be severely heartbroken and it's to be expected for someone who held on to hoping for better...
Been there in real life to know that type of feels and it's Not a fun experience... even worst to recover from.....

Ya know... a lot of people hate on this arc because of the whole brother sister thing. Which I get. But ya know... this episode still is a heartwrencher to me. Seeing someone you have feelings for with someone else is a living hell. But to have to go through that heartbreak twice in the span of what equals out to a single day? Goddamn.

I see why most people didn’t like sao after the first part of season 1, but I actually enjoyed the rest including this part, I genuinely kinda felt for sugu because she was in love with someone who she couldn’t have, and I know that personally, but obviously the related part was EEEEEEEEH but still, I thought that it was genuinely good to me
