- Today I’ll review my ultimate “unicorn” piece from Dept 56-Mordecai Mansion and the accessory piece, Steady Killer, Steady. I have a pretty extensive collection, but if forced to choose a favorite, this would have to be it. Hope you enjoy it as much as I do!

The simplistic detail found on Mordecai Mansion is the reason I have been a collector of Dept. 56 for 25 plus years. You know by looking at it and Mordecai himself that this is a haunted house. In my opinion, Lemax goes overboard on a lot of their pieces. Top quality throughout. My son and I enjoy your channel and your how to’s. Great content!

Hi Carl. I had the same issue with the sound on my Grimsley Estate. My husband made a separate switch for the sound on the outside of the house, so that i dont have to lift the house up to turn the sound off or on.

I can't afford the Dept 56 stuff. The amount people will pay for some of the products is crazy. I make my own houses, but I use Dept 56 and other village companies as inspiration. I think I have to make this one next!

@@HalloweenVillagesbyCarl I don't have them on any of my social media accounts. I stopped using social media (other than RUclips) a long time ago haha. I can definitely send you some pictures via e-mail or Instagram messenger or something! 😊 Lemax has 2 new 2022 buildings I started making already. I usually make about 5 buildings a year, especially since I had to close my store that I had in town. Now I sit home and homeschool my 9 year old. She's on the spectrum and LOVES crafts like me, so she helps with a lot of the little terrain extras and whatnot. I've been doing it for about 5 years now. I used to have a Dept 56 Christmas set up that took up an entire room. My step dad worked for a company that helped with the production, so I had a bunch of specialty pieces, collectors pieces, etc... Every year from the time I was probably 6-7 until I was 14-15, he'd bring home one of every piece made that year. Sadly, MY ENTIRE collection got thrown away when I moved out when I turned 17 😩 I was heartbroken! So that's my Dept 56 story haha. If I didn't have a ton of chronic, painful health problems and our daughter didn't have delays, I would definitely be buying some of the bigger pieces and making some as well. We live on just my husbands income, so spending money on this kind of stuff is last on the list (sadly haha). I love making custom things! It's definitely super fun!

I agree--this is a wonderful piece. I've always loved Victorian/Gothic mansions, and this one is so classic. D56's paint jobs are stellar. I'd love to add to my collection, but have to be careful sometimes--D56 prices in Canada are out-of-sight.
Yep, this style is my favorite by far-Grimsly Manor is a close second for me! I also love all of the Rest In Peace crypts! I hear ya about the cost-are they really more expensive in Canada??
@@HalloweenVillagesbyCarl I like Grimsly Manor too. That may be a future purchase. Yes, they are more expensive. E.g. the "Halloween Party House" is $175 (CA) on the D56 website, while it's $130 on the US site. It's another $30 for shipping (I don't know US shipping costs). It's not just D56, though; it's pretty much everything.
I meant to add that I like your intro, and I've been creating lots of trees following your instructions.

Hi Carl I picked up a sound box for Mordecai Mansion but thought the AC adaptor came with it and it didn’t, could you look at yours and let me know which one to buy because there are so many different volts and amps.

So awesome. Dept 56 stuff is amazing but super pricey so I stick to Lemax Spookytown.

Great review, thank you for playing the soundtrack as well! This piece just got moved up on my village wish list! Also I love these Halloween themed lazy Susan’s you have been using to rotate some of pieces on to show us all the detail. Could you share where you purchased those from?
Thanks! The lazy Susan we bought from Big Lots I’ve believe. We use our Cricut machine to cut Halloween themed card stock to fit on it.
Wow! I would have never guessed that is card stock! It looks fantastic! What a clever idea too, you could theme it for any celebration or holiday!
