    Thanks so much Sam, great video, very nicely done! I for one would love to see a whole project for making a bead using this technique. I can learn a technique OK, but then completely lack the imagination to make something out of it. Complete project videos are what I would most like to request. It was helpful to see what you had done with the lace cane at the end.

      Janet McBride I give you a tip if you don't mind. I like so save pictures or screenshot of video-tutorials, then, after a while, when I'm planning to do something and I can decide .. that's when I see the pictures that I've saved , it gives me tons of ideas. I hope that helps!

      Hi Samantha. I just rewatched this after getting more familiar with translucent clay. Great video! Anyway, I had an idea for a project using this wonderful cane. Hope that's okay? I can see several (or more) disks just like you showed in this tutorial suspended on varying lengths of chain for earrings, or even a tassel pendant. You could vary the sizes of the disks. You could roll the cane in silver or gold leaf. You could add a few pearls or crystals.
      Kind of a beachy effect, with the translucent/white effect. Also, "white goes with everything" LOL. Personally, most polymer clay earrings are wayyy too "much" for me to ever wear, but I think these could be rather simple, light and classy. I am not doing them (yet) because I don't have the skills or supplies to create them. And you sure have the talent!! Thanks for considering this!

      Yes. You can make earrings. Just take slices of the cane and burnish them together to make a slab. Then cut out your earrings.

    Great tutorial and I was able to easily make this. Unfortunately, bummed with these. Made them this morning. I put a translucent green behind one and mother of pearl white behind the other, to make them more substantial and give a hue. Baked according to instructions. The bubbles in front of the mother of pearl turned piss yellow, and a few burned and browned. The ones on the green looked better but still toasted. Lost much of the contrast in the bubbles. Does this look better using white-translucent? They were so pretty until I baked them 😭

      Jessama Tutorials That helped a lot, thank you! I already ordered two 1lb blocks of the white translucent. I baked my first translucents with paper top and bottom and only 30 minutes and was shocked they toasted. Will keep playing with it!

    I'm curious what a cane like this would look like if you use Premo white translucent instead of the Premo white. Would there not be enough difference between the two translucents and it would look like a solid log of translucent?

    • @JessamaTutorials
      @JessamaTutorials  7 лет назад

      Hmm. I'm not sure that there would be enough difference between the colors. Maybe if you used a more dramatic translucent like Pardo there would be enough contrast. I don't know. I think it's worth looking into though.

    I do have a question. I had seen/read somewhere that if you put your translucent slay in cold water after baking, the translucent part will become clearer. Have you heard this or ever tried it?

      That's a myth. It doesn't actually make the translucent clearer.

      I wish I knew how to do that too. At the moment I don't know how to use resin on a curved or domed piece without wasting a lot of resin.
      Translucent liquid clay is your best bet for a glossy replacement that can be used on a domed piece. I use Kato translucent liquid clay and I find that it works best.

    Hi Samantha, thank you so much for sharing your ideas with us.
    I visited your site today and read some of your articles. I want to ask:
    (1) I read that White and Translucent clay are susceptible to burning and PREMO is a troublesome clay in this case. I use PREMO, what would you recommend me to use?
    (2) When should we leach the clay?
    (3) Would you recommend PYM sealer?
    (4) Sometimes I use Alcohol Ink to paint the surface. Can I use Wax to seal the project?
    Thanks a lot for your advice.

    • @JessamaTutorials
      @JessamaTutorials  5 лет назад

      Premo is okay, but I prefure Pardo or Cernit if I can.
      Leach the clay when it's too soft the work with.
      PYM2 is a good sealer, but I don't think you can get hold of it anymore.
      If you put the alcohol ink onto raw clay and bake it the wax will seal it.

    • @annitagalvan9049
      @annitagalvan9049 5 лет назад

      Jessama Tutorials Thanks a lot for your advice.
      Can you please repeat your answer regarding PYM.
      Do you mean we cannot find it easily to buy it?
      One more thing, when I use WAX, in this case to seal Alcohol Ink, should I rebake my project?
      Thank you in advance for your time and help.

    • @JessamaTutorials
      @JessamaTutorials  5 лет назад

      I haven't been able to get hold of PYM2 in Australia for a long time, but the manufacture seems to have retired and isn't making it anymore.
      If you do seal with wax you can bake again, but don't have to.

    Why would you bake such a thin chip for an hour?

    • @JessamaTutorials
      @JessamaTutorials  7 лет назад

      Because it makes the clay nice and strong. It also allows me to make sure the clay is baked properly. It's a bit of a habit.

    • @kaidanariko
      @kaidanariko 7 лет назад +1

      Jessama Tutorials see I've always found my stuff starts to split crack or crumble when I do that. If I leave it in longer than usual I use a "off" techniques as I bake everything and when they're done turn the oven off and wedge an oven mitt in the door for it to cool slowly. I've found that makes things very strong without the breakage.
      I wish I could find a way to completely eliminate the crumbling. I don't even know why it happens a lot. I make a cane. Cut pieces. Half are fine half break. All cooked at the same time.

    • @JessamaTutorials
      @JessamaTutorials  7 лет назад

      That's strange. My polymer clay doesn't do that. What brand are you using? Generally the cracks are a result of trapped air or water. I sometimes get cracks, but not often.
