I really love this scene… so much. With the sleepwalking scene earlier, you just see it to be just some dumb slapstick, (And admittedly, it still kinda is) but when you’d compare that scene with this one, you can see how much Mythra has developed, compared to being closed off and lashing out at others as a coping mechanism and to not form connections due to her fears of losing people she cares about. But in this scene, outside of crawling away from Rex out of shock of sleeping on his lap, she is much more willing to show her true feelings of love and vulnerability to the person she loves… no longer afraid of herself or the death of friends. I also love just how silent it is outside of the wind, just Rex and Mythra pleasantly talking with eachother.
Without spoiling anything too major, throughout points in the story Mythra often reflects on what happened 500 years ago (the events that took place in the DLC Torna: the Golden Country). She states a few times that Rex reminds her of her previous Driver during the events of Torna. The whole reason Mythra created Pyra was because something happened during that time that caused her to want to seal her true power away. This incident is what causes Mythra to not want to get too close to anyone in the base game because she’s afraid it’ll happen again, but throughout the base game she does grow fond of Rex. At some point in the base game you will meet a third version of Pyra and Mythra (I won’t say where because spoilers) and you’ll be able to decide on if you’d rather call that third version either Pyra or Mythra. Which name you choose dictates one of the scenes after the credits in which one of the Aegis Blades expresses a certain feeling for Rex.
Little did they know, Mythra would once again wake up on Rex's lap a few years later... though both their clothes were conspicuously missing and she's got what looks but doesn't taste like mayonnaise leaking from all of her orifices. How truly bizarre. Wonder what was happening? Guess we got out answer in xenoblade 3
The voice acting in this game is definitely worse than it should be, but it's really only a few scenes that are remotely noticeable. Scenes like this, Pyra reviving Rex in Chapter 1, or almost any scene when a more experienced character (Vandham, Mythra, Nia, Brighid, Morag) is giving Rex a lecture or lesson.
The voices aren't that bad. I have heard far far worse (the Final Fantasy games come to mind for English voices). It is just that there was no direction to speak of so the VA's didn't really know what was going on at any one point in time nor was there anyone to potentially correct them.
Rushed Dub development, the actors are good but a LOT of the voices are literal first takes because "fuck you we have to get the game out in the west on time"
So tropey and at this point not funny. Rex has just accepted everything she is, character progression would have been her being ok laying in his lap a bit. That is what is stopping this game from becoming a true master piece aka actual art. Something all your gamers are always clamoring about.
This scene shows an organic transition into a deeper relationship. You just don't swap a new personality and instantly drop all your fears and traumas once you have found someone loved you. This is way more realistic and something many games you probably clamour are missing.

Character progression is happening, but it will take time before she can fully move on.
