    Finally! Someone can do a video with passion and without stammering or stumbling all over their words or smacking whenever they start a sentence! Great informative video!

    I grow all my raspberries in pots (7-gallon) in order to keep the roots from spreading, and to make it much easier to change their growing locations as I see fit. When growing in pots it's very important to NOT use compost or any other medium that can decay quickly, because it will cause root rot. I make my own "potting soil" by simply mixing 60% Sunshine Mix #4 with 40% All-Purpose Sand (from Home Depot). It's expensive but it will last for years because it will not break down into sludge like soils heavy in fast-decaying organic matter.
    I fertilize my raspberries by throwing 1/2 cup organic fertilizer along with 1/4 cup blood meal on the top of the soil of each pot every couple months during the growing season.
    My favorite variety is Joan J. It's thornless, very productive, has very large berries, and is everbearing.

    in northern Colorado I tried watering every other day and they mostly survived but didn't thrive. this year I added about 30 new plants, added chicken manure, sheep manure, coffee grounds, mykos, kelp, and worm castings, water every day and they're doing much better than years before.

    Thank you so much for your video I have heritage raspberries yes twice a year we get fruit I'm in zone 6A.
    I was wondering how to apply the chicken manure in the spring in between the rows or put them closer to where the new growth will be coming up thanks for answering great video!

    Laura! Thank you so much! We've been struggling with our raspberries for years not understanding what we are doing wrong. I'm going to load up the chicken poop around these guys and ease back on watering. See if it helps. I was hoping this could give a step by step, from planting to fruit, but that's okay. The information I needed is here. Thank you again! Our pear tree's from your nursery are doing AWESOME!! Bless you. 👍🏽🌻🌈🌎😘

    I love you videos! I'm in humid 9a and the way i'm shading my current berries at the hottest part of the day is planting on the north side of papaya. They act like dappled umbrellas without taking away airflow and I can even use them for a little extra support if needed. I'm adding more this year and will remember the chicken poop!

      @@deborahhawley5849 Yeah! The Extension office and also the University of Florida have good resources. The biggest thing that has help me after a lot of failures is less light. Like in this video she says fun or part sun it leans hard to part sun here. I've don't best with dappled light here so I plant where they will get that or even shade at least during the hottest half of day but really the one I have in all day dappled light is doing great. The best area gets shade from a neighbor's loquat tree a bit away so the roots don't compete like my papaya will. I also build up where i plant a little so it drains a bit because the soil here can stay wet during the rainy season. Hope some of this is helpful!

      @@deborahhawley5849 I did have one in a large pot on the cover porch for a few years and that worked too as long as I made sure the soil drained well. I like to plant with worm castings and avoid peat because it can hold too much during the rainy season. My family likes cucumbers a lot so I toast the skins and crumble them up for lots of my berries (good P & K source)

      @@rochellesansotta1189 Thank you for all of the information. It is so difficult to find somebody who has experience with zone 9 and berries. I'm in Texas, and the sun is so different here. It literally feels like it's closer, lol

      You can try a phosphorus based fertilizer. Any "bloom food" should do the trick.

    Mine aren't growing. I live in 9b. I have Caroline and Cascade Delight. The leaves grow and get brown around the edges and die.

    • @RaintreeNursery
      @RaintreeNursery  Год назад

      Raspberries cannot tolerate intense heat. If you are growing them in a hot climate, like 9b suggests, in full sun they will not do well. You can try a shaded area with extra irrigation, but your environment may be too hot.

    • @deborahhawley5849
      @deborahhawley5849 Год назад

      @@RaintreeNursery Yeah. I have had them protected, but I think the heat is doing them in (we have already had a couple 100 degree days.) I got Anne ones, and they are the only ones doing well. But I don't understand why they are rated to zone 9, when they can't live in it (Caroline and Cascade.) Makes me sad. I really want to grow them.
