I use one of these plus a micro terror through two separate 1x10 cabs with a fender ABY splitter. I can set one clean the other dirty and switch between them, OR play both at once. VERY nice, and I can always mic them up if they're not loud enough......
*I like to tell you my experiences and some tips that you may try:* In my ears the MD ("Micro Dark") sound has more substance, sounds more voluminous and has a more massive distortion then the also tiny "Micrro Terror", which seems to classify the "Micro Dark" for harder rock music. The similar MT ( the white "Micro Terror") sounds more crispy and more defined at clean sounds, which classifies it for more traditional rock! Thats my impression! Both sound real amazing (especially, when you chain-in effects like reverb and/or delay. I for myself play my MD also with a chained-in T-Rex "Mudhoney 2" distortion, a MXR Dyna-Comp and a Boss EQ-7 which turns my MD into a versatile "3-channel-rock-machine"!! Try this, it sounds fantastic!!), when you think of the small size! - I tested both and they both only show their real energy when being played thru a 12" cabinet!! - I use my Orange MD in all situations ( home, studio recording, band rehearsing and small gigs!) and can honestly say: it does a great job!! There are many bigger amps of well known brands, that sound worse then my Orange MD!! - Please keep in mind: If you want to use such an "amp-dwarf" in rehearsing sessions, then PLEASE, PLEASE use a 2x12" or 4x12" cabinet!! - I got best results with Celestion "Vintage 30" speakers ( Please NEVER underrate the effect of a good speaker-cabinet with high quality speakers! Its a point, that is often forgotten by guitar-players!) - A good trick to improve the sound further, is to replace the preamp tube of your MD or MT with another high quality tube of your personal choice!) - All in all: Well done, Orange! Another tip: You can easily buy TWO "Micro Darks" and cabinets for the price less then a single "big amp" plus stack .... and then - WOW!! - ( with suiting stereo-effect-box-combinations....) your sound can even be "bright-wide STEREO!!" - Its possibly an interesting idea - for example - for your recording work!! And, by the way - man - its really a good review!! Rock on!!🤘✌ Lincoln Six Echo
Personally, I love the whammy bar usage. This guy sounds smooth as fuck. And I also love that he didn't focus solely on the metal aspect of the amp. There are dozens of reviews that do, and you could just watch any one of those, this guy shows that it has other uses beyond just riffage. After my last comment here three months or so ago, I ended up buying one, and I have no regrets. At least about the head. I got the 1x8 cab, and while it's fine for jamming in my living room, I know it'd sound much bigger through even just a 1x12.
I have a micro terror and it's stupid loud, and gets great tones. It fits in the back of my 112 cab, and is a great backup / rehearsal amp. I haven't gigged it yet but would in a heartbeat. The Micro Dark adds an FX loop and more gain. Might need to grab one.
i absolutely hate that headstock ewwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww. its a awesome looking guitar i cant imagine why the manufacturer did not machine a proper shape
Eu não gosto de Heavy Metal mas, comprei este Head, queria que o Tiny Terror ou Micro Terror tivesse Efx loop como não tem, comprei o Micro Dark por ter kkkkkk acredito que não vou me arrepender, principalmente olhando este review
Wow, I'm stupefied… what Mike Casswell can do with a very basic hybrid amp, Amazing demo, so I look him up and read the sad news: he drowned while on vacation later in October the same year this video was made.
Question guys but did you have issues with engaging effects in the loop? I bought a Micro Dark and all my TC true bypass effects pop when switched on or off in the loop. Orange said that they could adjust it but I'll need to send it in to them. Tho when I asked where I'm still waiting on answer! I'm just wondering if they sent you guys a tweaked one...which begs the question why they aren't all like that? Shame because otherwise it's an unbelievable little unit but that pop isn't really useable :-(
Hank Marquardt Hi Hank, as an update (I'm based in the UK) but apparently true bypass pedals can hold a charge and the pop is due to an impedance mis-match. I actually sent mine back to Orange as they could adjust this, bit of a pain but the pop has gone on my TC pedals. I can't fault their customer service or turnaround time but just feel that maybe this should have been done as standard to avoid people having to send it back. It has made a huge difference tho so if it drives you as crazy as it did me, get in touch with Orange. Cheers.
+Durkar37 Thanks. Worth investigating, though I'm in US so I'm sure service is different, but certainly worth an inquiry/phone call. Appreciate the info.
Hank Marquardt Hank, it was actually the US boys that put me in touch with the UK guys and initially dealt with my enquiry. I left a post on the Orange Amplifiers fb page so try there first unless your local dealer can do that for you so hopefully they'll get you sorted. Good luck and many hours of pop free playing :-)
+Durkar37 Perfect. I did just that. It's NAMM week, so it may take a bit to get resolved but right now the MD is just a house rig for me so I can live with it for a bit.
it there on the guitar for a reason. If u cant make use of it then don't criticize people who make great sounding music using the whammy bar, and just to give an example of them just watch Steve Vai who is a heavy user of the whammy bar. So too keep it short, keep you stupid comments to your sorry ass
I've got every lunch box orange amp that they have made there seems to be a lot of pre production on this tone. They don't sound as great as this video makes it out to be.... RUclips also adds compression. So don't be surprised if yours doesn't sound like this.. I have 14 amps of all prices and brands so I have half an idea what to expect . Things sound way better miced up than being in the same room with it .... Get a Dark Terror instead.....Trust me
@@SilverMusicAndGaming In September 2016, Caswell drowned whilst swimming off Las Negras beach in the Cabo de Gata-Níjar Natural Park in Níjar, Spain. He was 53 years old.
Dude. . . The dark serie is made to play metal. . . It dont get the point of shredding here or find a clean sound gain between 1% to 5% and guitare pots 30%. . . If I need to figure how to drive a tank smooth on a golf green i'll ask you.
Sniffy Scottish battlefielder it's the metal bar coming from the bridge that he pushes down or pulls up to bend the notes. It's also known as a tremolo arm. People are bitching because he uses it a lot. It's kind of dumb though, he sounds good and plays well.
It looks so cute on top of that massive cabinet.

Tasty player. Wouldn't mind picking up one of these heads. They sound great.

best review I've seen of this amp I'm sold on it. Also the jam at the 6:50 mark was real nice.
Straight up, great sound & vibes. My type of tone preference! 6:50 on replay, lol
Best review about Orange Micro Dark. Cheers.
I just ordered one of these, I can't wait to hear my Gretsch and the 4 x 12 cabinet of Jensen Tornadoes. Mean Blues
Great review. Well done and well played!

the dark will blow your hair back. I can't even believe the tones the thing puts out plus the fx loop. At like $200 its tough to go wrong.
That intro. That was amazing.🔥
Best demo of this amp I have heard!
Bought me a Orange micro dark. Wow!!!!! What a amp!!!!!
I have the reg micro tiny terror I’m happy with it
This is that guitarist that vibratos every note taken to the extreme
4:29 beautifully segues into his uuuuhh.... in the same pitch ! ah ....the musical brain is a thing of marvel.
Tom Green can shred,son.
LMAO
primalsandwitch Fuckin hilarious lol
primalsandwitch lmfao
Surprised he didn't burst into.. tiny salmon chasing the impossible dream 😂
primalsandwitch LOL
Wow great volume and trem control!
Imagine an album by this guy. The vibrato and sliding up into chords would drive people insane.
What kind of cable its been used between cab and amp?
will you do speaker review also ?
im loving
Can you rehearse with it in a 3 piece band? through a 4x12?
Sure. It can definitely get over live drums
AWESOME
Michael's playing is so tasteful. Tell me he's got a few albums out.
he does
Jesus, his right hand dexterity is on fucking point.
Wicked player, wicked amp
i absolutely hate that headstock ewwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww. its a awesome looking guitar i cant imagine why the manufacturer did not machine a proper shape
+hellraiserharry Its the logo that kills it for me... Just in case you didnt read it, here it is multiple more times. XD
+Mr Bearable End it looks awful
great playing guitars .. hideous headstock ..
Honestly one of the most disgusting things i've ever seen on a guitar haha
I don't hate it but not my favorite..what I like about it is it is different from Everything else which im always open to!
woah, this guy is a god?

9:21.. 90s Steve Lukather vibes.
9:48 someone please tell me what is happening ???? whoa
It's a tremelo flutter. With a floating bridge like a floyd rose, you can sustain a note and slap the trem bar to get that effect.
Tom Dicks ...oh yeah !!! Omg ...now I see it....thanks ...l
Tom Dicks ....never ever played a Floyd Rose...my Strat and PRS are standard whammies
If you want this amp at it's best, install a Groove tube! Makes all the difference.
Truth. Regular stock 12AX7 Suuuuuuuuucks
Tieran Green mine came with a JJ 12ax7

the shape knob doesnt scoop
it does. It controls the mid frequencies, boosting or scooping them. at 12 o'clock its no change.
Source: Mine.
Someone take that whammy bar away from him.
If it fits his style I don't see why..
It's on almost every, fucking, chord. If you don't do this yourself I don't see how it helps in a demo/review.
What do you think Steve Vai does?
I just make you got 100 likes

Send that preamp into a vox loop return😎
Is that Romeo Rose?
Maybe use a tremolo effect pedal or something to give the tremolo arm a rest! I think the amp sounds good but there's too much effects to realy tell.
Release the fury mitch..... release the fury
still obssessed
It's loud as fuck though i have one.
You sound kinda like Allan Holdsworth..
Can ya gig with that head?
Not a single chuck on the low string
Enough with the pedals
Wiley bar overload
Can he please stop using the whammy bar for every chord he strikes.
advice to every guitarist in the eighties
geez, would you please LEAVE THE WHAMMY BAR ALONE!!! (>¿
