THANK YOU so much for the advice on how to get the babies to nurse on mama when she’s stopped feeding them. This is going to save the whole litter! Her nest had been moved and she abandoned them :(. I cradled her in one arm with her belly up, placed the babies on her so they could nurse, and pet her head and slowly fed her pellets during the whole process. I rotated a few babies at a time to ensure they each got enough milk and so the weight of the babies didn’t bother mom. Mama and I actually bonded through this! She became very relaxed and was chattering blissfully while her babies got milk. (In the beginning she was anxious and tried to jump away a few times). Afterward, I thought she’d flick her feet at me, but she didn’t! She wanted more pellets and head rubs, and then went and flopped nearby. :)
Same thing happen to my bunny yesterday morning but I don't see she is feeding her and right now she is even burrying her children inside her hay and after that stomp them until they scream in pain. I sure hope they don't die cause this is her first delivered. She is just 5 months old for God Sake
@@philipdahal5992 same thing with my bunny, she won’t feed her babies. so we hold her gently, keep her still and help her feed the babies. If you’re going to do this make sure you feed them 1-2 time daily. Hope this helps:)
My rabbit was nesting 6 days before she gave birth, and she was pulling her fur minutes before she gave birth. She has been a very wonderful mother. It was a beautiful experience to witness her taking care of her babies and doing everything to bring them into this world.
Ignoring them is not anti-maternal, it is instinctively protective to not lead predators to her nest. The very act of her preparing a nest, pulling out her own fur! and feeding them is maternal.
Exactly- they are prey animals and the babies have no smell. She stays away from the nest to protect them just like a female deer or alot of other prey animals.
Mine goes several times a day to nurse., it’s her first litter(I hope no more this year)., she’s ok for me to hold them, day 10 their eyes open. I hold them so they won’t ever be afraid of me.
We got 2 bunnies 5 months ago and the told us that it was a mom and daughter.. but the daughter was a so. And.. we found 2 baby bunnies in the cage yesterday! So we were scared that the mom bunnies wouldn’t feed them but I think she is! Have a good day guys! Oh and I noticed if your bunny only has 2 baby bunnies make sure to put them next to each-other to keep warm and to know that there safe!
My bunny just given birth an hour just now, it was two little kittens but sadly the second one died :( maybe it was in her stomach for too long and it maybe caused by the loud noise in my house since i have a lot of siblings and my mom were not home at that time so it was a mess and we didn't know that she's (my bunny) was pregnant!
Sad new, a day after one of the babies sadly passed, and a day after that the other one did…I cried for hours. If this happened to you I’m so so sorry!
I have a rabbit called Hazel to! When we got her we didn't know she was pregnant, we've had here for 2 weeks! Last weekend she gave birth, sadly 2 died but there is 5 or 4 left. Today is day 6 for mine, but they are so cute! Thanks for the tips!
Didn't know my baby was pregnant till last minute . She gave birth 2pm today to 2 baby kits . She doing good running hopping eating as she normally would. She haven't feed them yet so hopefully she does while I'm sleeping tonight
I have been searching for an informative video just like this, my doe is 2 weeks pregnant and starting to pull out her fur which is a little early but that shouldn’t matter. I’m so excited so I’m scraping up every bit of knowledge I can do thank you :)
I really appreciate how informative this video was! My bunny peter just had a litter of 8, one passed, and I wish I'd seen this video before he had, because I feel like I could have prevented it. But I am glad that I know now, and will be able to help mama feed future babies that get missed.
REXS ARE MY 2 FAV RABBITS!!! my first is Californian. Also. We were away from our house for two days and we came back to baby bunnies. We had two does but only one was pregnant. We knew she was. We didn’t know her due date. She had 8 but two didn’t make it. She was very sweet and fed all of her babies😊
Thank you for this video... It will help with the raising of the wild rabbits we recently rescued from our puppies that recently discovered the nest of 7 4-5 week old bunnies...
Just had our second batch of bunnies. We could tell because the mum was getting aggressive with us and her mate (she ran away or hopped over him when he tried). Also, she was gaining loads of weight (and she was little before, compared to my other rabbits)
My does not a new mama but since we've had her this is her first litter for us. They're 5 days old, went out to count and check this AM to one baby half eaten, 2 dead and 1 left alive (lost one right after birth) so I took the left living bunny away to try and save it. After a feeding I noticed it had diarrhea is this normal for a bottle fed baby?
This is so helpful. I have 3 babies in my yard that have been abandonded after my dog attacked the nest, I secured the dog and left the babies out for the night but they were all in the same spot in the morning and I don't think the mom came back, I have a feeling she may not be alive.
My cat brought me a baby bunny. I hope it’ll be the same for this wild bunny bc it’s eyes are closed and there’s no burrows around here bc my cat scared them all off. Trying to find a rescue now!
My bunny gave birth this morning we didn’t know she was pregnant and didn’t know how considering my sister a le bunny was no where near her. Now the mom and dad rejected the babies and I’m on my own.
I’ve never had a problem with any of my does not caring for their kits. By nature they only go to the best a couple of times a day to prevent leading predators to the babies.. most of my does are actually VERY protect of their nest/babies for the first couple of weeks. If I had a doe who didn’t care for her kits, she would be culled from my herd.
What do you do if your rabbit doesn’t like being picked up. I just got her recently and she still getting used to being here & she I went to clean her hideyhole I have attatched to her pen and there was babies and I felt so bad for moving them and destroying her nest because I didn’t know and I put them back but I’m scared that because I moved them and she’s still getting used to me that because I touched them she might not want them anymore.
Rabbits are social creatures so if you don't have the time to spend with your rabbit (they need a lot of attention or genuinely will become depressed) getting 2 rabbits is certainly best and definitely get 2 of the same sex. Female rabbits are more territorial than males can be and your rabbits will fight to the death if they are same sex. If you are planning on becoming a bun parent, I highly advise you to research, research, research! Rabbits are highly diverse, sensitive, and complicated animals. Best of luck!
My rabbit gave birth to 6 babies and 2 of them died idk how so I am now soo tensed becoz of that. Tip: feed the mother alot or else she may eat the babies
