Selim, unlike his brothers, realized very early, in his teenage years that, despite the love between the brothers, the ottoman law is stronger and that whoever of the sultan's sons would succeed Suleyman, would have to kill his brothers. Imagine realizing that you would have to kill your brothers or be killed by them, along with any sons you might have! No wonder he took refuge in alcohol ! He also knew that Mustafa was eldest and the soldiers ' favorite, while Mehmet and later Bayazed were Hurrem's favorites. Somewhere in the series he told Nurbanu that, if the law wasn't so harsh, or if he had been a western prince, he would have led a quiet happpy life administrating a province for whoever the sultan was. But in his exact circumstances, he had to plot his way ruthlessly to the throne so that he and his son may survive.
It's Soo sad
Yeah their laws were barbaric. Islam still is very ruthless about power. How sad to live with the thought to kill one's own family members...siblings one grows up with, and their kids too some day just in order to live...
Probably it was ingrained in them so that they become ruthless invaders. If they showed no mercy to family, they'll show no mercy to anyone.
Very disturbing life.
Prince Selim should end fritacide law when he became Sultan
Well, horrible as it was... people never seem to consider, how much pain and suffering and death was prevented by it. Just look at any of the countless inheritance wars that took place in Europe during that time.
By sacrificing any possible rivals after ascending the throne, peace was kept for a very long time at least within the Osman empire. There were wars against neighboring countries, of course...but those were mostly fought by professional soldiers and didn't affect most of the population. In a way, it was a noble (if involuntary) sacrifice for the good of the realm. Just very tragic for those directly affected.
I can't imagine what Süleyman was thinking though, changing the 'one concubine one son' rule, without changing the fratricide law at the same time. Because that was really f***ed up. Allowing full brothers to end up in this horrible situation. That should never have happened and any sons should not have been raised like siblings, either. Just keep them apart and raise them as deadly rivals, if that's what they're going to end up as anyway.
But say Uncle Selim kills all of his brothers. But then someone assassinates him or he develops cancer like his mother and dies. What happens to the clan and the Empire if he had no sons- only daughters?
The actress who plays Nurbanu is so gorgeous.
yess

Selim actually seems mature and level-headed here, I'm impressed.
"our bathouse is slippery" yea, selim slip there too 🧍🏻♀️
Oh my god! Those who accuse Selim of being a drunk, should watch this, should notice how he grew, how he transformed. And again quoting the wise words by Hurrem, ' A Man is nothing without a strong woman. '
"Fake it till you make it" is a quote one should use for Selim. That's how he became Padişah, by faking good qualities so he seems better than his more rebellious brothers

@@hussainsultanzada6123 yes he had brains atleast
Everytime Selim gets drunk I think, "There's never an AA Meeting around when you really need one."
Still a drunkard, he was drunk all his life.
A man is nothing without a strong woman
Kosem: I’m the state I need nobody
😂😂😂
@Leo 👍
... you do know that she was the worst that could happend to the empire ?
@@gianna4732 not at all
@@comradeleppi2000 she started the demise of the empire her hunger for power lead to have the most incompetent sultans ever, This woman put the financial status of the empire in a miserable shape to the point the treasury of the state became empty as result of her over paying the rogue Janissary army
@@gianna4732 no do some research
I'm always amazed with the beautiful gowns, jewels and tiaras they wear ❤️
King Zygmunt the Old, Anna's father called Hurrem in their letters his sister, which was why there was a rumor that Hurrem came from the Jagiellonian dynasty. :) In one of the scenes, Suleyman asks how anyone dared to attack his brother country Poland. But in the Magnificent Century Kosem, the situation is different. Osman loses the war with Poland and is overthrown, and in 1683 the Polish king Jan III Sobieski defeats the army of his grandson Kos Mehmed IV at Vienna, so that the Ottoman Empire never regained its former strength and retreated from Europe.
Well Selim was known for his generosity
Ohh the last lines of Selim... I wish my hubby says those words for me..
Why is this princess seducing him?? Because her country is going through famine doesn't mean she should go down
HAHAHA i laugh reading this. Yeahh why she try to be flirty lol 🤣
Maybe she fell for the savior. And the grandeur. Looks like she's crushing on him. She seemed genuinely attracted.
Only in movies but doesn't happen in real life Poland princess didn't visited
As a Pole, I deny that Poland needed money from the Ottomans at that time. : D It was the golden age of Poland, just like Turkey. Hurrem support Anna after the death of her father, polish king Zygmunt the Old. Anna like Hurrem gained great power and was crowned as the second woman in history to be king of Poland.
I don't understand this weird choice from the show writters either they could have shed a light on the good relationship these two countries had back then and hurrem's role in it but why protray them as poor when they were not?
As shown with the invention of characters such as "Princess Isabella" or Mahidevran having the title of Haseki/Sultan, you sort of have to accept that the show will frequently invent things to increase the overall drama/soap factor of the plot. In this case, it's needed to create a false "dangerous" intrigue for Hürrem as appearing to act "above her station". All very silly but that's the entire tagline of this final season haha.
@@kikima258 it's to make them (ottomans) look better & create political/historic propaganda
@@Redluna32a princess Isabella did exist at that time and she was Queen Consort of Hungary. She was Anna Jagiellonka’s sister. Here, she was supposed to marry Ferdinand (A Habsburg Monarch) but that, I think, isn’t true. Unless there are two Isabella’s
I keep expecting to see a Starbucks store sign to appear in the palace.
😂
0:13 Did Hurrem introduce Sumbul coffee to princess
Yes
Did anyone else notice that Princess Anna is wearing the same gown that Princess Isabella wore on the show? Both of them tried to flirt with members of the Ottoman Dynasty.
Ottomans have concubines , Europeans had courtesans
watching this series for the sake of these two
female actors are very beautiful
Where is gulfemdog?? Ha she ate hurrem sultanas dust and hid under a rock.
