Donna Summer has always handled her microphone in the same manner -- pulling it forward and then back to work with her voice, pitch and volume. Extraordinary. Though backing tracks and vocals were used for this performance, Donna's own voice shatters them. A fast tempo, high energy song that is not easy to sing live -- unless you're naturally gifted and a pro to boot like Summer. Truly one of the best vocalists ever.
Glenn Brown I love how she is just waiting to hit that note in the end. She had the power of her vocals until the day she died!! That Will Never Come Again.
This is so beautiful thank you Queen latifah and Donna Summer. I'll be 58 years old in another month. Donna Summer has one of the most amazing voices that I've ever experienced in 58 years. She would do this live like it was nothing Every time I saw her in concert all three times it was like I was having an out-of-body experience. To me it felt like there was angelic force in the room when she opened her mouth to sing. I mean her voice was just so powerful that would fill up the whole environment or arena with an angelic beautiful sound. ❤️👑❤️🙏✨ Rise in power beautiful one!❤️👑❤️🙏✨
That is one of the greatest things about her is that her voice is so powerful that she would blow that mic if it was right up to her mouth like most singers. Summer can do this in her sleep, Ive seen her hold the mac arthur park note for longer as she leans back with her hair touching the floor.
This is one of the clips I always point to when people "claimed" she was not that good or used a backing track. Yes, there is a backing track here...(a product of the times) but she belts out the whole song AND nails the high note, with the mic arm's length away no less. Damn. Some people will never get it.
My first favorite part is at 5:13-5:16 when she sang, "i-ya-ya-ya-ya-i" was just so damn good. I also love(d) how she hit and held that long note while she moved the mic away from her with her mouth wide open. Her voice is so natural, pure, and strong. It sounds the same both live and on cd/record. Just love and miss this gifted and talented woman. R.I.P. Donner Summer.
Donna was, is, will be forever my life! Forever Donna! This day 31 dec. Would be her birthday, Donna never died, still will be forever alive in our thoughts and lifes..........
+Rob Knetemann KNOWBODY EVER dies they move on and back home having added their lifes experiences to the universal consciousness.WE will all reunite if we have been true to ourselves, loving and not carried out any EVIL acts.I can't wait to go back home but know I am here to learn through experience and to add positively to the universe.R.I.P Donna but we will all meet again, THANKYOU and god bless.
This song is utterly maxed out jammin'!! I went out tand bought her album THE DAY I saw this on Q's show. I love it all....and especially the lyrics and what it has to say. Love is the Healer Baby.
I was sobbing watching her "On The Radio"-------she exemplified the real mark of Star Quality singing: "effortlessness"----especially with the quiet parts of a song. There's aboslutely no Strain to sound good----like you'll see on American Idol. Donna was a really good looking woman! Geeez. She seemed really sweet. She said that when she joined the church choir her voice scared her. She didn't know where it was from.
When I heard Queen Latifah's album, I was shocked, so pleasantly amazed. It's been all these years and I am just now finding out she auditioned with Last Dance, and she truly is a fan of Donna... that's really very sweet and wonderful.
I was a real club-kid, dancing every weekend, but I don't remember this song on the dance floor; it's good! My favorites were "Bad Girls", "I Feel Love", "I Need You", and "Working the Midnight Shift" (a magical track). Such great times... the dance music now doesn't hold a candle to the stuff we danced to back then, nor do people even react to it with any excitement on the dance floor, it's just mostly bland aural wall-paper for dancing. Glad I experienced legendary artists like Donna Summer!
my memories of youth would not/could not be complete without the presence of this angel, Donna Summer. i cant explaine it; she just made me feel so good, everytime i heard one of here songs, i guess im associating her with my youth which everyone adores and longs for ande i am SO angry and will be SOO OUTRAGED if she does not get a fitting tribute which she diserves. there will never be another Donna Summer NEVER!
my favorite thing about this is being so knowledgable about her music having listened to it so much, i can tell the face she makes at 6:56 is because she's realized she missed her cue for the big note (she's performing to a TV track, which is basically a instrumental with background vocals)
She starting singing the long "loooooovvvee" note late, as you can tell as she was trying to listen for when to begin singing it, but she did aweseome nonetheless.
the woman can sing and sing and sing. i don't miss any of her tv appearances if i can help it. my fave. i need to see her live in concert. it is one of my must dos before i die.
If you see one concert, it's got to be hers. I love Tina Turner, Bette Midler, Barbra Streisand, Celine Dijon & Cher in concert, but Donna is special. You will NOT stay in your seat.
love is the healer hit #1 on dance charts raves played it everywhere. If you listen to the lyrics you know this is another awesome Donna Summer Gospel Song. Donna Summer is the Queen of Gospel Dance too! thanks for post.
i think, until now, i have totally blocked out and repressed her passing .. cuz all of a sudden for the past week i cant get her out of my mind; ive been playing here vids on YT; actually crying quite a bit (crazy i know??) .. i loved her so much. i wish i had gone to at least one of here shows and told her myself ..."fail" ;(
Because the lights are real bright easier on sensitive eyes. I noticed her wearing them during other performances RIP Donna there will never be another you
@Ceybil Jefferies Agreed! Are you "Love So Special" Ceybil Jefferies???? I LOVE that song! Still have the 12" version I bought back when. Phenomenal track!
I mean…this woman’s voice comes from another planet.
She ALWAYS say ''Thankful to GOD'', in every interview.
that's what she's been indoctrinated to say; no surprise. did she thank her imaginary friend for the cancer??? yeah, exactly

I saw her in 2004 and her voice was incredible. I gained new respect for her astristry after seeing her.
One of the greatest voices of all time!!!

She's simply the best, her voice rocks
Many say Whitney Houston, Céline Dion and Tina Turner

Unbelievable...what is that? She's holding that microphone 2 feet from her mouth for that high note...just AMAZING!

+The Actors Arena YES that was AMAZING!! she took that song to the next level

I love queen latifah, she is one beautiful classy ladie. God bless her.
+Carlos Cruz Latifa is a special person.
I was sobbing watching her "On The Radio"-------she exemplified the real mark of Star Quality singing: "effortlessness"----especially with the quiet parts of a song. Donna looks gorgeous and sounds AMAZING!
Fabulous ! I could Dance all night to this Wonderful Song ! And only Donna Summer can do it right !
When I heard Queen Latifah's album, I was shocked, so pleasantly amazed. It's been all these years and I am just now finding out she auditioned with Last Dance, and she truly is a fan of Donna... that's really very sweet and wonderful.
How creative of Donna to add gregorian chant to the mix in this song.

This aired at 11:00am weekdays on FOX 5, competing against CBS' "The Price is Right".

Hold on to Peace
Donna Summer and Queen Latifah were both so beautiful then
@barrioboi1 She's amazing. I saw her in concert in Boston and it was unbelievable. She sounds just like she does in her records. A true powerhouse.
My dying words will be: Don't be sad for me. Tomorrow I shall see and hear Donna sing again, in Paradise.
As always excellent!!!
...it was on for two YEARS
I never saw Queen Latifah talk show, they must have pulled that show off after a few days...its a damn shame...
diva
man all the talk shows from the 90s
Live, ya'll....
The way she sang. This song reminds me of Gloria Estefan...but she really belts out a great voice!
😘😘😘😘

There are remixes, of course:)

Queen Latifah is so HOOD! Too bad Jenny Craig didn't work for her. This is the real and original QL, not the phony white actor she is today.
