    Your hair and your face 🤩🤩🤩 just gorgeous. I’ve been loc’d since 2010 (I have 53 locs that are about the same thickness as yours with a few wicks mixed in). This is the BEST vid I’ve seen for fine hair locs. Especially for those who’s new growth grows away from their locs. Most people don’t realize when you have super fine hair gels and pomades are the worst! I threw out everything about 3 years ago and just started using only rosewater and my hair has been so much healthier with less thinning. A 3 prong crochet needle is extremely helpful as well for loose hair around edges. Very informative 💜 would love to see you do a vid on easy hairstyles for fine hair

I’m so glad you found this video helpful bc that’s exactly what I was going for. Yup! You are absolutely right! The heavy products just don’t work for our type of hair. Ahh I’m gonna try that type of needed and see how it works for me. I believe I already have it….I just haven’t used it 😳.

    When I had long natural hair it was thick but very soft. Almost 6 years into my loc journey and my hair is the same as yours. I have since figured out that if I braid the loose hair into the loc it eventually locs back up. Don't have to braid tight just enough to mix in with the loc and stay.

I too have fine locks, very similar to yours and although I’ve had them for a year, I’m looking for a good moisturizing routine for low porosity hair. ❤️❤️ your videos and content.

      Aww thank you so much! 🤗 my retwist doesn’t last that long lol especially the front. If I tie it down with a satin scarf at night I can make it last for a week tops. After that I don’t try to upkeep the retwist until it gets really frizzy and tangled. Daily, I don’t really do anything. I shower without a shower cap so my locs do get a little wet from the mist and I use that leave in once a week (usually the day I wash my hair). I’m so happy you enjoyed!!

    Your locs look great. I haven't seen your scalp in a minute as well. Our texture are exactly the same which was why I followed you from the beginning. I think im gonna try and retwist my locs using water only. I typically use some type of product because I want my hair to be layed and snatched. But during this pandemic I have been getting use to the "unkept" look and enjoying my unruly curls amd all. But yeah, water only retwist will be done next week.

      🙋🏽‍♀️ Hi and thank you so much for watching!🤗 in the beginning of my journey I retwisted my locs after I washed my hair which was on a weekly basis for the most part. Once they started to loc at the roots I was able to retwist a little less. The more mature my locs got, the less retwisting I did. My advice is to do what seems best for you and your hair. 😉

    • @itsDawnElle
      @itsDawnElle  3 года назад +3

      Ohh okay that’s great! For me it’s the idea of not being able to undo it that bothers me. 😩. I don’t retwist tightly so it hasn’t hurt me or caused any damage but i have seen a lot of people retwist and I agree with you. It does look too tight/painful. There’s pros and cons to all methods.

    Hey Dawn! You may remember me commenting on your post here for a bit now 😁. I have a start date for my starter locs now! 12321! Yes!!! One, two, three, two, one. Up and down! Cool date to remember. Lol.
    I discovered Yanni also. Between you (since we are like hair twins), her knowledge on healthy locs, and with a video or a few from the loccrush on flaxseed gel and detox... I'M READY!!! I got my minimal starter kit ready. But I have a thing or two left to get, with a question.
    Where did you get that spray bottle or what brand is it? I like that pink in it. The ones I am finding are black, white, or white with clear observer on amazon. Also do you do rosewater mixed with a light oil for your hair at all? (taken from Yanni's advise) If so how does that work in your spray bottle? Do you have issues with the mist output if you use oil diluted with water at all? I'm just down to getting applicators now for misting or my scalp now. Your advice is much appreciated. 😁😘

    • @itsDawnElle
      @itsDawnElle  3 года назад +1

      Hi MariB! Yes I remember you ☺️. That is such an awesome date! Oh yess! Yanni and Loccrush are two people that I’ve taken a lot of good advice from which helped me during my journey.
      So I used to use rose water but my scalp would still find a way to become irritated even when I only used it on my ends so I stopped using it once I ran out of it. I also felt like my locs would still feel dry so overall I felt like it wasn’t really working for my hair anymore. I’m not sure if me living in Florida now has anything to do with it. As for an oil and water mix, I don’t do that because the water in the water bottle would begin to smell like mildew to me. I think if it’s distilled water being used that wouldn’t happen but I haven’t tried it. I haven’t used anything aside from water in this pink and white bottle so I can’t say I’d the oil will mess it up or not. I’ll try to find it and give you the link. 🤗

    • @marib1881
      @marib1881 3 года назад

      @@itsDawnElle Thank you, thank you. I've seen comments somewhere about the mildew smell as well in the bottle. I'm slightly on edge about using rose water in general because I have disrespectful year round chronic allergies. I sneeze all day every day. Runs in the family. Allergies, Ezema, Sensitive Skin and the like.... Just waking up in the morning, i'm sneezing... not to mention my eyes and nose and blah blah... lol. I will be getting an allergy test soon to check on my new triggers... any who.
      So you only spray your locs with water? Is this daily? Do you oil your scalp at all? I have low porosity hair so I really can only use light oils really. And I don't do oils as it is now actually. Anything with weight is a no go for me.

    • @itsDawnElle
      @itsDawnElle  3 года назад +1

      @@marib1881 you’re so welcome!🙌🏾 yeah that mildew smell is super annoying and hard to remove from the bottle. Ughh yeah if I were you I would stay away from the rose water too due to your allergies. The scent can be a bit much if you’re sensitive and smelling roses ALL day lol. I suffer from those 3 things too!😩
      So when I want to moisturize my locs I’ll wet my hands and rub them together and then rub/squeeze the water onto my locs to dampen them since my water bottle be acting up. Then I’ll use a little kinky curly knot today leave in conditioner and then a little light oil. Avocado oil, grape seed and sweet almond oil are good light oils for hair. I use a rose oil which is a blend of light oils plus calendula oil. I absolutely avoid oil on my scalp due to my seborrheic dermatitis. I do this on wash day and maybe once more before my next wash. I wash my hair once a week usually but sometimes sooner than that.

    Hello Dawn Elle! Do you use heat on your hair or do you just let it air dry? And on a wash day when you aren’t retwisting do you really scrub the roots or just lightly with water?

    • @itsDawnElle
      @itsDawnElle  3 года назад

      Hello Ade! 🙋🏽‍♀️ I just let my hair air dry. I use a towel to soak up as much water as possible and then remove it and let it air dry. I wash my hair/roots the same no matter if I retwist that day or not so I use my finger tips to really clean my scalp. Once I’m done depending on how my roots look, I’ll decide on retwisting them or not.

  • @LRJones
    @LRJones 3 года назад

    So, putting the leave in conditioner into your hair won't cause buildup? I have been super careful about putting any sort of creams in my hair because everyone says it causes build up. I have been told to dilute any type of conditioner until it is watery. What has been your experience? I am only 4 months into my journey and am trying to avoid messing it up. Thanks.

    • @itsDawnElle
      @itsDawnElle  3 года назад +1

      I totally understand where you’re coming from. This particular leave in doesn’t cause any buildup for me and it’s naturally on the watery side. I wouldn’t use anything cream based as I feel that would cause buildup. You definitely shouldn’t use any conditioners as your locs are not mature enough yet.
