    "Now she's gone and ruined everything!" For real, for a second I thought that was going to be a sort of weird anti-glasses comment! Like, "What a pretty face... Too bad she wears glasses." 😅

    I hope all is well with you and your family!
    I think they would have used the "Victory rolls" with the bangs hair to add height.
    Anyhow, my mother was a teenager/20 year old in the 1950s. She always had 2 pairs of eyeglasses: "formal" pair for Church and other functions and a "casual" pair for work, shopping, etc.
    As for me, I wear eyeglasses. I don't pay much attention to the shape as I do the color and thickness of the frames, because I want them to blend in, rather than scream "I'm wearing neon blue eyeglasses with thick frames". lol.

    That was a fun video! I hope you and Robert are enjoying your time getting to know your son. I've worn glasses for years, and I used to try to "follow the rules" about face shape and all that. Recently I decided to just experiment and get different shapes just because I like them. I figured since I wear them all day every day, why not have fun? After wearing rectangular and squared frames for so long, I'm wearing rounded and cat eye ones and I really like the change.

    I have a "peculiar" nose so i always choose my glasses based on how the bridge fit my nose first and then on how they frame my face. Whenever I'm wearing glasses and makeup I tend to go bolder on the eyes, to draw all the attention to the glasses and my eyes.

    Your face shape is perfect as it is, however they neglected to mention that the neckline of you outfit also effects the shape of you face. A turtle neck or crew neck will make your face appear rounder, while a v-neck or scoop neck will help elongate the face. 1:00

    Lucy and a sock bun - doesn't get more classic! I have a tiny, heart-shaped face and wear cat-eye glasses...but they have to be small enough not to dwarf me, and acetate so they can hold my chunky lenses. I often wish I could venture out into other shapes and styles, but I definitely have a glasses comfort zone.

    You were right about those glasses looking really good on your face, although I was enjoying some of the darker larger ones as well. I have worn glasses since I was 11. I have mostly gone with what’s in fashion. For the last two years I have just been obsessed with cat eyes, and I’m not sure if they’re still in style, but I’m going to wear them anyway lol. I have a round face and I am rather overweight, so I feel that the tilted edges take away somewhat from the roundness of my face.

  • @ElizabethAlexander-kt4bo
    @ElizabethAlexander-kt4bo Месяц назад

    I think the key for this tutorial is horizontal frames and lipstick would counteract the effect of the hair. The round frames and lipstick do enhance your round face, but they also allow the hair to cause the right effect.
    Also, I wear glasses, but I can't afford to be frivolous with purchasing extra frames, sadly. I tend to lean towards rose gold frames to match my very light skin and I like a horizontal oblong shape, despite having a fairly round face. I have thought about trying the very round frames, but I don't like how they look on me.

    I've been going to the same eye shop since I was 14 (I'm in my late 20s now) and there's one employee that I trust 100%. Whenever I need new glasses I just try on whatever she gives me and the she decides whether they suit me or not, I don't even have to look in a mirror. We usually end up with 10-20 glasses and narrow it down from there with a mirror. I don't even know why my glasses suit me but they always do. I don't know how I will cope when she retires.

    I love to play with different frame shapes because sticking to one would be so boring for me 😅 I like to mix it up between my horn rims, cat eye, some vintage styles, round in both plastic and metals, and my "disappear" basic lightly tinted plastic rectangular frames. Having enough different shapes to play with for different outfits and occasions has meant I sleep in my contacts way less so it feels like the price was worth it.

  • @bunhelsingslegacy3549
    @bunhelsingslegacy3549 Месяц назад

    Heh, I got really noticeable glasses a few times and figured it would hide that I'm not wearing makeup, now I have frameless glasses that practically disappear so if I DID wear makeup, it'd be visible. But I definitely remember when I did wear makeup AND glasses, I had to emphasize the makeup a bit if I wanted it noticeable.
    And having worn both narrow and "swoopy" glasses, I heartily prefer the ones with more below, cause I value my peripheral vision and narrow little glasses are sorely lacking in that. I want to see more than I want to look good, so I'm glad bigger lenses are in fashion now, they were harder to find ten years ago so I got custom shaped lenses on my frameless glasses.

    I pick my frames by making sure the top compliments the shape of my brow ridge (most of the time they'll cover my brows when my face is relaxed, so it's important that it follows that natural shape), then the rest just has to sit well with my high-ish cheekbones. I usually prefer a thicker dark tortoiseshell style frame, I like that they make my face look good the way well drawn eyeliner does. Otherwise I'll pick a thinner framed black pair for my "fancy" set when I want to look elegant or wear more makeup.
    I definitely found that once I needed to wear glasses more often that I stopped wearing as much makeup cause it just distracts from my eyes vs accentuating them. I have quite deep set eyes and a strong brow ridge that creates a lot of shadow over my eyes. I think I inadvertently follow a lot of the shape rules for the long face in this tutorial

  • @CraftsyPenguin
    @CraftsyPenguin Месяц назад

    As I only have one pair of frames at any given time, I pick what suits my face, as I'll wear it daily for several years in a row. Right now I can use my older pair which is very different to the current one (current = dark purple coloured, older = clear plastic), but I'm more used to the feel of the current ones, so the older one feels weird after a short while, although previously I've worn it for two years daily...
    I almost never wear makeup these days, but it's true the glasses sort of hide the rather bold eye makeup that I use in those very rare cases. I'll have to get used to a whole different look and approach to the face appearance soon though as I plan to undergo a corrective eye opperation in couple months...

    I'm wearing glasses for more than 30 years and it's always a struggle to find one that fit. I have rather small head and low nose bridge so finding something suitable is not easy. I prefer round metal frames in dark colours, not very thick. At summer I wear big round glasses with photochromic lenses, I have green and grey ones and I love them.
    Also the first glasses looks amazing on you!

    I have an oval but kinda rounded face shape, that can also look oblong cause of my chin and and cheeks. and kinda round eyebrows. As you can understand I have no idea what to do with it 😂 I prefer glasses that have no frame at all, but they feel very delicate and not comfortable to me, so I alternate them with regular plastic ones for every day.
    Also, I don't get how oval shapes are supposed to overdraw the lips horizontally, and not look like joker 😅

    I definitely go towards the rounder glasses like you, though I have a long face. As for the makeup question, I've had glasses for longer than I've done makeup, so I don't know any different! Between my heavily hooded eyes and my glasses, eye makeup does disappear though.

    I simply don’t understand how people have collections of glasses. Mine are so expensive. I have to have two pairs anyway, for different things, and the thought of buying more just for the look! My poor bank account. Good job no one cares what I look like.
    I did once get contacts because I wanted to try things like doing makeup and I can’t see well enough without glasses to do it. But then the optician just gave me a massive lecture about all the things I must not do with contacts in, which was basically the entire list of things I wanted the contacts for. Then he was surprised when I gave the stupid things back and told him to keep them. Utterly pointless.
    I did laugh at the footage of the lady in the forties who had done her makeup then put on her glasses. That is not me! I’d have lost my glasses, trodden on the makeup, poked something in my eye, fallen off the seat……. And why was that mirror so far away?

  • @TheGabygael
    @TheGabygael Месяц назад

    i have a diamond face (so more of an oblong vibe) and i had rectangular wide frames as a kid because it was on trend (they were even the right color come to think of it, i'm deep autumn probaby and they were petrole blue, which is a warmer dark blue) and everytime i look at those photos i'm shocked at how little they matched me, they overwhelmed my entire face and added nothing
    the way i do my milkmaid braids is i start them right behind my ear and pin them on the side of the braid (sometimes i even do 4strands) so the braids fall vertically on my scalp creating more of a sculptural shape rather the loose braids. i think it's a 40s style that could look cute with your aesthetics and geet the "proper" shape they ask for. For a modern approx. of it, maybe using one of those chunky headbands would do the trick? fashionable hair is really voluminous or really downwards, unless you go pixie, which would definitely look way too severe on you

  • @KSilverlode

    I think the look you ended up with was good on you - but I think for a more modern look it would work just fine to leave your bangs down as well, since they frame your face instead of fluffing out to widen it. In that era, down hairstyles tended to puff out a bit at the bottom, as shown in the illustration. That's what you're trying to avoid.
    I'm a long-faced person, so I do go for shorter, more rectangular lenses. I think they suit my face better, and also I have deep-set eyes so if I wear long lenses, they tend to sit on my cheeks and move when I move my face and I hate that.

    I used to wear glasses that "disappeared" on my face, which were probably too small for my rounded/oval face. Then I went to a rectangle shape semi-rimless in darker colors for years. Since last year, cat glasses in a semi-rimless bronze brown are my favorite, which works well with my face shape and coloring. I poof the front/top of my hair daily, so I guess I'm in the 1940's guidelines :). I don't wear makeup other than occasionally using eyebrow gel to darken my eyebrows when I go out.
