- The M/V Roger Blough of the USS Great Lakes Fleet filmed at Blue Water Bridges in Port Huron Michigan. The ship is coming out of Lake Huron and downbound on the St Clair River. Anyone with the sound on will also hear my 3 year old "little helper"!
The Roger Blough was constructed in Lorain Ohio, launched on June 5th 1972. The Blough trades almost exclusively in the taconite ore due to the short unloading system. She is 858 feet long and capable of carrying 43,000 tons of ore. On this trip she is heading to Conneaut Ohio with a full load.
What a superb job. Very well done
Thank you!!
That's how ya do it, teach those kids from the get-go to be fascinated with those boats (just like I was) ... that's one of the beauties of living on the North Coast ... beautifully filmed, great shot of the boat coming head-on. Nice work!
My grandfather took me/brother to the port daily. I notice that even people who really aren’t interested in ships get out to watch them at drawbridges.
Nicely done. She's one of my fav's on the GL, along w/ James R Barker, and a few others.
Thank you, I like that it still retains the look of a straight decker
I've never seen a video showing a straight on shot, well done sir !
Thank you! She’s an impressive boat head on.
5:19 Impressed horn blast bravo ☺️👏👏👏👏
Guessing that the Captain of the Blough was probably a bit annoyed with the speedboater cutting in front of the ship.
If you ever come back to Port Huron, you should go to Acheson's Venture there's a train ferry ramp converted to a pier and it gives a good view of the freighters docked at the Esso Refinery in Sarnia. Sometimes you can see a train there too.
I’ve been down to that spot. I got a brief video of the Paul Townsend there when I was chasing her scrap tow. We’ll be there again this summer I’m sure!
She sure is a very large presence. The welcome party fr the sea gulls an the little person's voice is charming
Excellent footage ~ thanks!
Thank you for watching!
Best horns on the lakes imo. I wish I could've heard them
So clear one can see the folks in the wheelhouse.
I wish there had been better cameras back in day before the footers and Chinese boats took over
If you notice she does not have a boom for unloading she has a conveyor that extends out of the aft port or starboard
Yes makes her behind look funky but I like the straight deck look
I keep expecting to hear the bridge answer back. I've been watching too many Duluth videos. 😂🚢
Haha surprised I’ve never heard a truck on the bridge salute the boats!
Same! Kept waiting for it!
Very nice video. Thank you 😊
The perfect goal horn. Yeah!
I still remember the tragic fire in the Blough while she was still under construction.
i am sad it is still laid up and undecided on after the engine room fire.
I sure hope they fix the blough after the fire earlier this year
Well the Blough went to Conneaut, OH for a long term lay-up. I've heard damages are around $100 million dollars, I do hope to see the Blough running again but I'm not sure CN would want to spend that kind of money on the Blough. Time will tell.
Forgive my ignorance, as I've only watched a few other channels, but does it seem like she's moving faster in the opening shot than many of them do? Thanks!
I don’t know for sure, but there’s a heck of a current at that inlet, you can see how fast the water is moving. Also the video might be sped up a bit.
Nice video. Those of us of a certain age refer to both spans of the bridge as "the Blue Water Bridge," with no "s".
Thank you! I think it probably looked better with one bridge. They don’t match.
Absolutely stunning! I love your videos on the trains too. What camera here and what lens? Thank you Scott, amazing 👍🏼🇺🇸♥️
Did you cross the bridge and go to Point Edward for some fries?
I still have not been across the bridge.
Loaded heavy
Shes a workhorse
Ils sont juste majestueux 😍😍
Including some of the more famous ones
Railroad,Preserver
Who was the nut in the motorboat? What does he think his ass is made out of, rubber?
Ngl Roger Blough be looking kinda THICC
Ship looks like a fuckin tank!!
Is there plans to save some of the oldest active Lakers
Ha, yeah they gonna save 'em alright. Save 'em for the scrappers torch.
Sorry but I'm not the anti preservationist. The companies that own the ships are the anti preservationists. They are the ones who sell the ships to the scrappers once the ships go beyond their usefulness.
25mfd my apologies
No problem. As a matter of fact I like these ships. Always been fascinated with the Edmund fitzgerald. I remember reading about capt. Bernie cooper. He was one of only a VERY few who went back into the storm to search for the fitz. Always had a lot of respect for him for doing that.
25mfd gotta love the song too! Saw Gordon live, a few years back.
bring your 3 yr old little helper again, please? he is nicer to hear than the music and that mean wind.
He’s always along when he’s not in school
congrats, YOU ARE A GREAT ROLE MODEL!!!!!
