England made a huge mistake when it sent its prisoners to Australia. Australia is beautiful and has excellent weather and 'security'. England's weather is terrible and much worse than Australia's weather...and their security does not compare to Australia's security. Here's their mistake. England should have left the prisoners in rainy, cold England and moved the country to beautiful sunny Australia that has great security.and weather. Go see Australia when you have a chance.
I have (nearly) watched all your videos now, and I have learnt so much from you and your fantastic team over the last year. I was so happy to see this longer video I’d missed 🤣 also I must say, thank you for being so honest and true.
Thank you for watching Louise! This was one of my early customers and I think she was like my 3rd subscriber to this channel. I have another video from this customer coming out soon.
@@GCFD I love seeing them in action during a rain, I understand that it’s hard to record them because your busy and it doesn’t always rain but any chance you can to get that, please do!
I learn something from every video - excellent point about catch basins slowing down the water coming into them, so bypass with pipe and join the basin with a wye. I have kind of an exception to that rule. My township will install a small catch basin at the edge of the street for homeowners to run gutters etc into, with township pipe running from there into the main storm drain system. This gives them an easy inspection point at each house. If they're seeing something in the system that shouldn't be there - usually bubbles and whatnot from someone illegally discharging laundry water into it - they can check each little catch basin and figure out where it is coming from. My 4" PVC comes in near the top of the basin, and their 5" pipe goes out completely flush with the bottom, so it doesn't even accumulate silt, let alone any leaves or other gutter debris - absolutely no maintenance necessary.
I put 4" schedule 40 PVC pipe in my yard for downspout drainage however on the vertical connection to the downspout I have a transition to light gauge pvc and Wye-connection with an iron age cast decorative cap on the Wye. The idea of the Wye is it provides access if the homeowner ever needs to clean out the PVC for whatever reason. Above the Wye I have a transition piece that allows the aluminum downspout to seamlessly connect to the PVC.
I could make one but it would be meaningless instantly due to changes in prices. PVC has gone up 61% in the last year due to hurricanes, covid, and election year. So it wouldn't be accurate for long.
@@GCFD That's ok we would understand that. I just thought it would be interesting to see all of the details that go into pricing out a job. I'm sure there is plenty that goes into pricing that I would never even consider from watching the videos.
You should bring a 1 gallon jug with you when you do your flow tests so we can see how long it takes to fill a 1 gallon jug. It will put the water movement into perspective.
My house has those at 8:29, and I never trusted them! Near one is a slow leak coming into my basement. Bummer. Do you fill these with dirt or cap them once a new replacement is installed?
So, what can you do so that the catch basins don't catch dirt/mud? Where I got my french drain recently installed there is very sparse grass. I assume maybe grass will grow and stay now that the drain is in. It usually grows in early then dies off during storm season.
Are you allowed to use clear primer and glue? it would make the down spout connections look a whole lot cleaner. If you have to use purple to be within code I guess it is what it is....
I like your idea too but I don't think you solve the surface water or subsurface water in the yard? yes you get rid of all the roof water from the gutters but what about the water from the yard or other parts of yard?
I have found (and I tell my customers) that rain landing on yard is not a huge issue. It's when the gutters concentrate thousands of sqft of roof area and concentrate it via a downspout that flooding happens. I often cite that "taking the gutter water out of the equation" can solve lots of issues. We also don't have subsurface water here because we have lots of clay. Check out this video where I revisit this job over 2 years later to check in. ruclips.net/video/kjAvepe0DS0/видео.html
Absolutely not! The reason is rainwater overburdens the wastewater treatment plant and does not need to be treated. It should be collected and moved by the stormwater management system.
23:30 - will the incoming water always clear out any silt, or can the catch basins actually fill up with silt? Would seem a minor maintenance check to peek in on them and clean out any accumulation (?)

I will never understand why your competitors use popup emitters, they go against everything water velocity wise like you said in the video, as well as get blocked up
Yes for sure. This was an early video and I've gotten much better at editing. If you enjoyed the content check out my recent stuff and let me know how I'm doing. 👍
I don't know why but I get enjoyment from watching your excavator dig up those evil corrugated pipes!!
Hahah I don't mind it either Scott. I usually rip them out without and regard.
I dont know how i came across your videos but they're interesting to say the least. Lots of good ideas

I like the before with explanation and the after during rain.
Thank you! I try to do that with all my projects.

agreed. I was about to post the same thing right now.
You've become a legend in these parts lol yesterday I drove through Greensboro half hoping to see your dually work van on i85😅
Future Shawn would of recomended concrete alongside the house and a hat. 😃Always enjoying the videos and nice to see some I have not viewed yet.

Great video Shawn. You don’t seem to mention pesky roots when trenching. Are you just lucky or do you omit root removal during editing ? 👌
Nice job.
Thank you!
May I know what brand of drone you using in video. Thx.
I hired this drone work out, but my two drones are the Mavic mini 2 and the Mavic air 2s.
Music at 18:40 totally winning

Do these non-pumped catch basins ever present a problem with mosquitos?
It's possible. Adding some Dawn will drown the larvae.
My house has those at 8:29, and I never trusted them! Near one is a slow leak coming into my basement. Bummer. Do you fill these with dirt or cap them once a new replacement is installed?
We usually just fill them in with dirt.

We have been using Rain-r-shine glue+primer in one. it's blue
Why no channel drain on the driveway? I have about the same driveway situation...
The driveway slopes into the catch basin.

In your area, are you allowed to tap rain water into the sewage pipe system?
Absolutely not! The reason is rainwater overburdens the wastewater treatment plant and does not need to be treated. It should be collected and moved by the stormwater management system.
Why do you put the exit of of the drain basin near the top where it holds water?
You have to have the exit of the basin lower than the inlets in order to preserve fall.
23:30 - will the incoming water always clear out any silt, or can the catch basins actually fill up with silt? Would seem a minor maintenance check to peek in on them and clean out any accumulation (?)
@@ScottHz yeah that would hold water and collect silt.
Its a crime that people get ripped off. Than have to pay a second time to have you to come and redo it right

I don't know either. They seem like a good idea until you realize they force water to run uphill.
Looks like all they do is relocate the erosion washout from one place to another. And they would need massive slope to stay empty.
Good video, terrible soundtrack, music blaring and voice so soft you are unable to hear.
