A good desperate stopping technique is to get low then drop to a seated position. A bad desperate stopping technique is crashing into something or trying to grab something while your legs slide out from under you.

The teetering side to side on inline skates when trying to find your balance can definitely cause a kneecap to dislocate (especially if you have damaged ligaments). @@i.am.ded.This is true, "rollerblades" are actually called inline skates. It's just here in the US, the biggest inline skate seller brand name is "Rollerblade" So, the skates they sell all have "Rollerblade" written on them. People find it easier to say rollerblades instead of inline skates, and leaves less confusion when talking about either inline skates or quad skates. We just say blades or skates instead, pretty often.
I have done both and each one has its own advantages and disadvantages… Rollerblades are faster and your center of balance is in the center/back of your foot because of the flat design, making it easier to go side to side for speed. Roller skates / quads are slower but easier to balance on, and it’s much easier to turn in quads which is great for dancing… however, I do figure skate (on ice) and I’ve gotten so used to that side to side type of balance that I find it easier to balance on rollerblades now because I can move my foot side to side MUCH easier which ultimately gives me more control and allows me to balance for longer. I prefer rollerblades most of the time, but for the chill days or around the house I prefer quads

If you want to cover pretty long distances, the lower cuff models, sometimes called marathon skates, with 3_5 80-110mm wheels are great. True Speedskates, in my experience, are only good if you truly skate often enough so your ankles get and stay strong. Fit also needs to be tighter and less cushy. Both will also require more strength for the same brake pressure ( if you use a heel brake pad)
A long time ago a company of something had roller blades with suspension on them and I think a friend of mine has them as he showed me a long time ago they were a great feeling

I know both rollerblading and rollerskating..I got my rollerskates at six and rollerskates at 9..Idk if it was the age difference but seriously learning rollerblading was easier to learn, balance and do tricks with. I love doing both ❤

I was given a pair of "inlines"(blades, no idea why we called them inlines lol) when I was 6-7 and my gosh I could not figure out how to comfortably go more than a few feet without losing balance. Started rollerskating at a nearby rink (which has sadly closed) and it just worked so much better for me. I've tried both again recently and blades still don't work for me. I don't think they fit right though, the support was clearly supposed to be there but my ankles just wobbled inside them. So it's skates every time for me, but who knows, maybe I'll pick it up eventually.
Their actual names are “inline skates” not rollerblades. Rollerblade is a company that produces good quality inline skates and was very popular back in the day. We probably just refer to all inline skates as rollerblades because everyone was probably buying from rollerblade before
For some reason I’ve always done blades ever since I tried them because I found it hard to balance on the other ones. Guess I’m not good with front to back balance but fine at left and right ? Wonder if that could be the reason. Anyways I would fall a ton and it hurt and the switch made a huge difference for me, even though I’m a casual skater I feel super comfy on the blades !
I have always rollerbladed! When I roller skate 🛼 I always feel the need to walk not glide. How should I fix this? Also how do I practice my jumps on blades? Thank you!!
it could be related to the tightness of the screw that regulates the looseness of the wheels or to the material of the wheels (depending on the surface you skate on you will use different wheels. generally if you dont skate on competition rings you will need wheels made of a softer rubber made to skate on concrete/streets, so that they can absorb a bit of the unevenness of the floor. if these are not the problems, it could be simply that your legs have yet to develop the strength to push yourself and the skates forward so you would only need to practice more. hope this helps :)
They work differently. To glide on roller skates, you should push side to side in a V shape Unlike on rollerblades where you can glide even if they are paralle | | Remember Roller skates - V shape Rollerblades - | | shape
@@PollySkates I didn’t actually think you would reply thank you. You’re such a big creator I think that would happen, I did roller derby for like four years the sport was fun but the girls I played with were kind of toxic
I’ve been rollerblading since I was 4 and I’m 15 now so that’s 11 years I’ve rollerbladed and I’ve done roller skating when I was prolly 7 and I STILL to this day love rollerblading better
I actually really appreciate that, I was always under the assumption that rollerblades would be worse on my ankles, and that’s what kind of steered me away from when I was younger, just due to breaking my ankle for a separate instance in my life.
I found that buying a gummier wheel made my skates much smoother because they absorb cracks and terrain much better for trail skating! Definitely look into your wheels. A hard wheel would be good for indoor skating/roller rink but not great for outdoors
For me rollerblades are so smooth, fun, and nostalgic. I remember my 5th grade party where we all set up the gym as a roller blading rink, and it was just so fun ❤
Love roller blades, I self taught at age 5 with the roller blades then my dad thought I was good enough to drop me in ice skates. Ice skating comes naturally for me. I’m not a pro in either sport just doing it for fun.
I’ve never really tried roller blades before? I just stick with the skates that I have and I self taught my self from a close friend:) they are easier to get a hang on I think? Because roller baldes you really have to get a good balance on. Although I love skates I’ve never really learnt how to spin on them which is sad because it seems fun 😂
i usually only skate, but i would be open to trying rollerblading again, but im assuming it would be expensive because the only pair of blades i have are like childrens
I learned rollerblading first, and after that, it felt so easy to rollerSKATE. Rollerblading will always be in my heart. Funny enough, I know that my Christmas gift is the cutest pair of rollerblades! My dad cannot keep a secret lol
Rollerblades are also good for practicing snow skiing and ice skating. I highly recommend doing a deep dive into rollerblades. They have a lot of similarities to roller skating but they’re also very different. For example, you can actually “rocker” most rollerblades so that you can carve a lot tighter. There’s just so many little things like that.
I was a roller skater first, then a roller blader. Once I learned to rollerblade I suddenly could not remember how to roller skate ad the blades were so natural for me. But now I'm getting back to rollerskating with my kid. Wish us luck!
I used to be in marching band, so my sense of balance wrt my feet and legs is pretty good. It makes rollerblading much easier than rollerskating to me! (Plus, the ankle support in rollerblades makes me /feel/ safer)
I appreciate this video looking at both and that people can USE both!!! I'm really bad with my balance on blades but just fine on skates so i far prefer them :]
what if you made custom roller blades that were splayed out and had two per shoe. would that be the best of both worlds. easy to get into due to the width, easy to balance due to the width, and better heel support due to the length?
With balance and roller skates, I tried flat ones first and found myself falling backwards a lot- then moved to a healed boot and my balance was way better, makes sense of course
I have beginner inliners that are somewhere between inliners and skates. It looks like i will be able to make a decision after i properly try both individually to test it out enough times to know what i want. I suppose we can all have multiple pairs of them when needed.
ive tried both and like skates over blades bc i can stand easier on skates, when i try to stand or anything on blades i fall down bc the blades are all centered down the middle of my foot instead of supporting all sides like skates

I needed this bc i have both and can do both but never know which one to do 😅
I have always rollerbladed! When I roller skate 🛼 I always feel the need to walk not glide. How should I fix this? Also how do I practice my jumps on blades? Thank you!!
Use your toe stops for a boost of speed then try and glide but push your legs hard at the same time and make sure to do it on a flat surface
it could be related to the tightness of the screw that regulates the looseness of the wheels or to the material of the wheels (depending on the surface you skate on you will use different wheels. generally if you dont skate on competition rings you will need wheels made of a softer rubber made to skate on concrete/streets, so that they can absorb a bit of the unevenness of the floor. if these are not the problems, it could be simply that your legs have yet to develop the strength to push yourself and the skates forward so you would only need to practice more. hope this helps :)
They work differently.
To glide on roller skates, you should push side to side in a V shape
Unlike on rollerblades where you can glide even if they are paralle | |
Remember
Roller skates - V shape
Rollerblades - | | shape
@@kenshinbuendia5002 thank you so much!!!!!
I wish i could skate but i live on a bumpy dirt road on a mountain. Oof-
Don’t forget, there’s an entire sport with rollerskates roller derby
So true!!! I need to educate myself more on roller derby!! It’s very impressive!!!
@@PollySkates I didn’t actually think you would reply thank you. You’re such a big creator I think that would happen, I did roller derby for like four years the sport was fun but the girls I played with were kind of toxic
@@PollySkatesthank you ❤❤❤🎉
I prefer the roller blades or in lines more
Same 🙊
The way I see it, blades are for tricks in the skatepark while skates are for cruising
Love Rollerblading!
Same!! 😃🎉
I have both and use both based on what mood I'm in. Started in 1984 as a little girl.
I found that buying a gummier wheel made my skates much smoother because they absorb cracks and terrain much better for trail skating! Definitely look into your wheels. A hard wheel would be good for indoor skating/roller rink but not great for outdoors
Gummier wheel?
For me rollerblades are so smooth, fun, and nostalgic. I remember my 5th grade party where we all set up the gym as a roller blading rink, and it was just so fun ❤
Omg i would love to go back to fifth grade and get to party like that! ❤️🎉
Why just combine them, perfect duo unlocked
I knew there were different wheels but I honestly never thought of them as two different things but these all make so much aense
Love roller blades, I self taught at age 5 with the roller blades then my dad thought I was good enough to drop me in ice skates. Ice skating comes naturally for me. I’m not a pro in either sport just doing it for fun.
That’s what it’s all about!
We need videos on Tri skates! 💪🏻 Not enough of those on RUclips
OMG THE SONG. so nostalgic! I was looking for this song playing in the background again!
This is one of my all time faves ☺️
I started roller skates then on to blades where I could not go back for years. Then after many many years I returned and did roller skates again.
i usually only skate, but i would be open to trying rollerblading again, but im assuming it would be expensive because the only pair of blades i have are like childrens
Loved this!
props to the camera man
i always go for roller skates because i’m terrified of roller blades
I learned rollerblading first, and after that, it felt so easy to rollerSKATE. Rollerblading will always be in my heart. Funny enough, I know that my Christmas gift is the cutest pair of rollerblades! My dad cannot keep a secret lol
ive done both! but ive always had a strong love and preference for rollarblades!
Same! 🤭
Rollerblade for life gang
👇
I love your videos !
Thank you! 🥹
I used to be in marching band, so my sense of balance wrt my feet and legs is pretty good. It makes rollerblading much easier than rollerskating to me! (Plus, the ankle support in rollerblades makes me /feel/ safer)
They key differences: Pick one, and stick with it. You will pick up the other skill later when you first master a skill.
LOVE THIS ADVICE!!! 🙏❣️
I appreciate this video looking at both and that people can USE both!!! I'm really bad with my balance on blades but just fine on skates so i far prefer them :]
:) 🤙🎉🙏
what if you made custom roller blades that were splayed out and had two per shoe. would that be the best of both worlds. easy to get into due to the width, easy to balance due to the width, and better heel support due to the length?
As an ice hockey player I always found that roller blades provided an easier transition between roller and ice because of their skinnier surface area
Roller skates can also have good ankle support, it just depends what type you get
💯💯 so true! Just not as strong as a hard plastic boot generally speaking :)
If you are starting either one I recommend rollor blades for beginners there actually a lot more stable I learn how to skate in them in 10 minutes
that intro was the most chaotic thing ever hahahahah❤❤❤
💙💙💙
With balance and roller skates, I tried flat ones first and found myself falling backwards a lot- then moved to a healed boot and my balance was way better, makes sense of course
I like rollerskates because I don’t have to balance all the time and I can just stop without falling! I did use to use roller blades though
I have beginner inliners that are somewhere between inliners and skates. It looks like i will be able to make a decision after i properly try both individually to test it out enough times to know what i want. I suppose we can all have multiple pairs of them when needed.
And 4 paws are for ... pushing you faster 😊
ive tried both and like skates over blades bc i can stand easier on skates, when i try to stand or anything on blades i fall down bc the blades are all centered down the middle of my foot instead of supporting all sides like skates
