- Welcome to Round 1 of the Season-Al Tournament! Today I will be pitting 4 rubs against each other to see who reigns supreme when it comes to beef ribs! These are just the first 4 of the 16 rubs I chose, and my buddy @lordsaunderssmokehouse has also chosen 16 rubs for a total of 32, we will battle it out each week and see who comes out on top!
If you haven't watched Lord Saunders video yet you can right here!

And just because a rub did not win today does not make them a bad rub! All these rubs were great but some just had a slight advantage with my taste!
I will enjoy watching this challenge
I'm excited to see who comes out on top at the end! Make sure to head to Lord Saunders page and see his side of the bracket as well! Thanks for watching!
The color contrast on the ribs before they are cooked is so satisfying!
They really are!! Getting ready to cook round 2 tomorrow! Make sure to check out Lord saunders videos also to see his side of the bracket!
I've watched it twice now - those ribs look delicious!!
Haha thanks man! They were definitely delicious!
3 DAYS!😳
A throw down show down!!
Hahah every Sunday for the next couple months!
@@GorillaJoesBBQ ugh haha.
@@lordsaunderssmokehouse how u feel about doin a live to promote this tournament? Or even droppin in to other bbq channels lives to talk about it
@@DrunkenChefBbq A live would be dope, and dropping into other channels would also be dope. I think with another set of rubs in the books we'll have a good amount of stuff to talk about - these seasonings are bringing the heat, pun intended lol.
great video and look delicious! congrats to drunkenchef.. have a good day and week.
Thank you!!
@@GorillaJoesBBQ your welcome
I like to use that black and tan on steaks.
I am definitely going to try that! I love these types of seasoning on steaks.
Awesome a Z Grill!!! I just ordered a 450B last week it gets here in like 2 days.
I got some Meat Church seasonings and when I stopped into my local BBQ joint after church I bought their rub it's a really dark red their brisket is perfect.
Maybe you could do a video on your all time favorite rubs cause i'm just getting into smoking when my Z Grill gets here and I want to have some good rubs to try out.
Congrats on the new ZGrills! I have a playlist on my channel called "Zgrill Cooks" and it has a bunch of stuff ive cooked on mine this past year! I'll be doing a 1 year update video soon as well!
I could definitely put together a list of my favorite rubs for different cooks soon! We will be covering a lot of rubs with this tournament over the next couple months also! Thanks for watching!
@@GorillaJoesBBQGotta try that cherry pork that was the first video I saw.
@@Stuffandfangs pulled pork is one of my favorite things to cook! So easy and hard to mess up!
I’m genuinely curious bro… why would u not ATLEAST just trim the stubborn fat off the top of the rib ?
I think people get too worried about trimming, I've done these both ways and they both turn out great. Heck you can even do a no trim brisket and it will turn out fine, look up Smokin Joe's BBQ he has a great video on it. But in this cook at no point did I think I should of trimmed any fat off, a lot of it will render down into more tallow and baste it's self in flavor while cooking. But if you like to trim yours I'm sure they are just as tasty!
I watched lord Saunders video. I agree with drunken chef. He used two seasonings. One was was a seasoning without salt. He added salt. That changed the profile of the seasoning. And that seasoning won. Would it have won if he wouldn't have added the salt? This is a contest with seasonings. If you add something to the seasoning, that should disqualify that seasoning. Drunken chef voiced his opinion on this, and I agree. Seasoning only. Don't change its ingredients by adding something.
I have talked to Saunders about that as well ha, there are points on both sides but I will say I will just be using the seasoning as it comes. I also checked all my rubs in round 1 and they all had salt, which I think a majority of them do. Thanks for watching and checking out his video though! I'm real excited to see who comes out on top!
congrats to @drunkenchef!!
