This is a video guide to our journey from Lake Ohrid in North Macedonia to Tirana, Albania by bus. We made the journey is 2018 and it was part of our two week road trip through the Balkans.

This is from a trip I did with my Mum through The Balkans in the summer of 2018. I didn't publish them at the time because I wanted to catch up on my posting schedule and so I ended up skipping a whole bunch of videos. Now I have the chance to catch up and share them with you!

Loving the vlogs during our lockdown. We are in lockdown since March 26th till April 25th (it could extend even more, for our own good). TheLifeOfJord hi Jord can you tell me if the bus had toilets on it and what was the bus company called
@@danielkirkland3366 not 100% sure mate as it was two years ago now. The bus was the public one going from the Struga bus station and I don't think it had toilets but we did have a toilet break. I believe there is also a shuttle bus now that goes directly from Ohrid.

One of my friends went to Albania and did the trip to Skopje and in the bus there was dead roosters

How frequent is the bus from Tirana to Orhid??? Can you do same day return to Tirana?? Do you know the bus schedule???

I was pleasantly surprised by Albania when I was there last May. Tirana in particular looked nice and lovely, with a vibrant and varied food scene. And of course, the unspoiled Adriatic coast is too awesome for words. I had been there previously in 91, and it's obvious the country has come a long way.
@@tally1604 Very pleased to hear that! Yes, Albania has undergone drastic changes since 1991 when the communist dictatorship was overthrown. These changes have primarily come in regards to infrastructure and education as the economy got a strong boom with the regime change. Unfortunately our country and our people are still haunted by a deep rooted prejudice that sees us far too often labeled as 'criminals' or 'drug dealers' which then leads to people thinking our country is unsafe. The illegal undertakings of a few low lives plague the image of millions of hard working people. Almost everyone who visits gets their mind blown at how wrong these preconceptions are. That's why it's always nice to hear comments like yours. All the best :)
@@imanuelcaushi4711 I would rate Albania as one of the safest countries to visit in Europe. Much safer than Serbia, with none of the tourist scams that plague Croatia. I personally never felt even remotely unsafe in Tirana, day or night. Everybody was very helpful and friendly.

Ah yeah! That was an interesting time to be there. Would love to come back another time and explore more of it
I found that the walk back to the bus station from the Lake wasn't too bad when I was going back to Skopje from Ohrid.
100% right about football though. I went to the Balkans as a trip combined with going to England's game in Kosovo. They were all so welcoming and we even watched the Albania game together afterwards.
Interested to see what you thought of Tirana as I didn't really get to see it as was just a night stop over before flying back to Gatwick after a couple of days in Kosovo.

Cheers man! It's actually because I got so behind on videos at one point, that I decided to skip a bunch to catch up to the present (which at the time was the Kilimanjaro video).
I wish I'd caught up with these sooner but now at least I have the chance to get them up. Also got two from Ecuador I never shared.
At least it means you have extra content for this pandemic! 😁

Yes! I lived in Perth for 6 months on the working holiday visa. Need to get back there and get over to the east coast too though

One Question is why you Brits and Yanks Love Albania so much ...The Former Yugoslavia States are so much Better ,Balkans have so much more Places to offer even Greece is Over-rated and No Macedonia,s official Language aint Albanian ....
1) Ohrid is in SOUTHWEST Macedonia, not "north". 2) The fake constitutional name "Republic of North Macedonia" came to fruition only in 2019. What a way to insult an entire nation.Word of advice: even "Balkan" is considered an insult by many nowadays.
The country is called North Macedonia. Macedonia is in Greece.

The fact is that it was Macedonia when I visited and is now officially called North Macedonia.
@@TheLifeOfJord Last year the government of the country has signed the Prespa agreement after a referendum. It was agreed that the country must change its name to North Macedonia erga omnes (towards everyone).
Any way, nice videos, keep travelling and you are welcome to visit the real Macedonia in Greece as well.
TheLifeOfJord your video was great. It’s not that serious. It’s just that I believe that the international community would prefer the official name. Back when you visited it was not officially called Macedonia. The name was disputed then. It was officially FYROM. The country in fact, was never called Macedonia. That was just a de facto name that the people of the country promoted. This dispute officially ended with the decision of changing the name to North Macedonia. Discontent with this still exists from both parties of the dispute however, though I’d like to believe that it is accepted by the majority. Nonetheless, the video has been posted recently, so it’s weird that the title is using the now outdated de facto name.
