Correct me if I'm wrong, but the only time her eyes ever went reptilian/cat-like was when Keiichi was being paranoid. Other times in the show when she's being scary/creepy/angry, her eyes either shrink or become duller. If I'm right, then that's a crazy cool little detail from the animators.
Yeah the demon eyes she and Mion had in that story arc were part of Keiichi's paranoid delusions. She also never really got angry or scary in those scenes. It's just how Keiichi saw her in that moment.

I recently watch the sotsu series but damn I miss this old series the. Facial expressions, the environment, the quality, and the scary background music asf. 😢
Gosh the OG scared me quite a bit, honestly one of the only animes I’ve seen that have gotten under my skin. I think anime has a hard time being scary enough to scare people, possibly because it’s animated. Also, most other horror anime rely solely on extreme gore or gross out scenes for their “scares” while Higurashi is a perfect combination of brutal violence and psychological horror. Edit: Like when I watched this when I was 13-14 the scene with Rena standing outside in the rain just saying sorry over and over again creeped me out so much, I had to sleep with the lights on that night.
As I remember, that scene with Sasuke having one eye the Mangekyo Sharingan and the other eye a bloody soulless black eye before stabbing Danzo through Karin was pretty scary.
No matters how many they gonna remake or have a new Higurashi series but one thing they cant change is VA every characters voiced in this show is such a masterpiece, Rena Rika Kechi Mion & Shion or even Detective-san they are all so good but Satoko is the one I like the most her voice really is something.
Really? My personal favourites are Rika and Rena's voice actresses. Satoko's voice is kinda annoying, still good but not as good as the others. Just the way Rika and Rena's voice actresses can shift with the mood of that particular scene is truly amazing.

Okay I'm gonna be fairly honest rena is the only higurashi character that I cared about(okay i cared about rika and maybe satoko but thats besides the point)simply because she is the only higurashi character that makes me so uncomfortable when she gets uh....im gonna say pissed/creepy and if she wasn't in the anime in general I'll probably won't enjoy higurashi at all.
When you play the VN, one of the creepiest parts is actually one of the “tips” during Onikakushi-hen. The tip is the Seventh Mart scene, it’s right after Rena comes to the house and grills him on what he was eating. So the scene is him thinking back to what was around him when he was at Seventh Mart with his family. You can feel as Keiichi gets more paranoid he almost becomes more desperate, sort of reminding me of the scene from Fear and Loathing where Thompson takes a certain controversial substance and his lawyer is telling him about what’s going to happen. As I played through the Onikakushi-hen VN, I slowly began to develop a sense of true paranoia or felt some sort of secondhand insanity.
Rena's quite scary like this but she's also attractive especially when she's holding a hatchet and walks towards Keichi. In that scene, she even seems seductive. If I were Keichi, I'd be terrified but also a bit aroused.

Just started this series and there's a few things I'm still not clear on. In the first arc when Keiichi's dad tells him that Rena was at their house and Keiichi realizes she overheard him talking on the phone does Keiichi hallucinate that or does it actually happen?
it happens. im guessing rena had stopped by to hang out but overheard keiichi talking about her on the phone with oishi and left before anyone could notice
God poor Rena. She heard Keichi had a hard time and wanted to check on him, then she overhears him being paranoid about her and decides she doesnt want to make him uncomfortable. She also probably got hurt he thinks shes evil
I Dont get it. When Rena murdered Rina and Satoko's Uncle, why wasn't Satoko alarmed by that? Just alarmed, not sad because she thinks her uncle as some sort of test if she completes her bro would come back. I am confused by that. Either way, Satoko would have found out maybe some time after couple of days and probably realized that she helped buried her uncle, if her uncle was reported missing. Also, in that same fragment world, Rika had a needle to inject Rena to make her feel better because Rena was reaching deep levels of the syndrome. What was that injection and how did she get it? Is it the same that Satoko takes to oppress her symptoms? Plus, how was Rena seen in the warehouse by the two officers, when she was hiding in her secret place in the junkyard? I am confused by that Rena Fragment World, arc, or whatever.

Also, in that same fragment world, Rika had a needle to inject Rena to make her feel better because Rena was reaching deep levels of the syndrome. What was that injection and how did she get it? Is it the same that Satoko takes to oppress her symptoms? Plus, how was Rena seen in the warehouse by the two officers, when she was hiding in her secret place in the junkyard? I am confused by that Rena Fragment World, arc, or whatever.
