  • Flautist Milind Sheorey was born in Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh, where he began learning the flute under his first guru, the late Pt. Prabhakar Bagadadev between 1983 and '87. In 1987 he moved to Mumbai in search of a new guru, and two years later, came under the tutelage of the doyenne of the Maihar Gharana and daughter of Baba Allauddin Khan, Vidushi Annapurna Devi, who taught him to play dhrupad, khayal and thumri angs on the bansuri. His rigorous study with Maa Annapurna Devi went on for eight years. She remains to this day an enduring source of inspiration and guidance in his riyaz.
His distinctive style of playing the bansuri is characterised by a highly fluid and vocalised approach, involving the use of sweeping glissando slides (meend) in aalaap and complex tonguing techniques in the jhor and jhala. In 1993-95, he was awarded the National Scholarship for classical music.
Milind was the opening artiste at the popular FEA-curated KHAYAL RANG series. The second piece of his recital was in the rarely heard Raag Shankara. He was accompanied by Kaushik Basu on tabla.

Ohhh God... Shankara can't be justified more than this. I pray to God that for once in my life I can sit at this man's feet and learn this divinity.

    This is extraordinary and exquisite...
I haven't heard this Raga played on Bansuri anywhere close to this perfection and class ever.
The meends and beyond words and it literally drips sweetness and majestic emotions.
    Spellbound...
    Speechless..
    Pranams Guruji for your music.
    Humble respects
    Anil

This music is not the result of ordinary riyAz or sadhna. This is the end-product of authentic tapsyA -- a word SRee MahApaNDit Hariprasad Chaurasia uses sometimes in his interviews. DhanyavAd!

Shamsher Singh Mann As of now we are not selling any of the music as audio files. But we are working on an arrangement with the artistes. Once that is in place, we will be making the music available on CD quality on our website which is currently being redesigned.
