Took me back to 1987 I damaged my hand on the Shear by doing exactly what you described hand on leant down .. good times at my family scrap yard ( A & J Barber Salford ) sadly no longer , keep up the great work lads reminds me of great times . Daz
Great video. I've worked in steel stockholding, processing, and fabrication companies but never in scrap/recycling so this is fascinating. Matt clearly knows what he's at and is class in front of the camera. The conversation flow between Matt and Harry is great.
Pyro is a trade name for MICC cable. Mineral Insulated - copper conductor. It has a copper shealth with a number of copper conductors inside with a white powder which is the insulation to prevent the cables short circuiting. The white powder is an inorganic magnesium oxide powder. It is popular in hazardous industries such as factories and gas & oil industries as it has high fire resistance as oppose to plastic cables. It is less common now and mainly used in hazardous locations as expensive and hard to work with. The white powder reduces its scrap value as its a contaminate to the pure copper.
Matt asked some very good questions. Always wondered about the slabs in washers. Love all your vids but this is in the top 3 for me. And Gary was very good with a broom lmao Sorry Harry :)
even with scrap wire the single core if i take off the main outer casing they give me 20% extra money the single core exposed i put it into my dry bright tub. i just passed slinger signaller course hes lucky i dont go on to him about more than hi vis after him talking about it. :P 1 of the best magnets youll have is from a computer hardrive
Love Matt !!! Enjoy seeing him on the videos , he’s great with interacting 👍👍 can someone tell me how they get the correct money for the metals he’s throwing onto the big pile?? I always thought they weight the different metals individually in piles but looks like the steel etc just gets thrown into a big pile so how would they know the weight and the right money to be paid??
@@richardball9724 and what happens if they had like 3 bags of sand in the back or weights etc. really appreciate you getting back to me so interested but had no idea how it worked
there was a company with semi trailer trucks that would come in on rainy days with big water blatters hidden up under trailer. as there tipping scrape they would empty water bladders
If people tried telling the scrap merchants around where I'm from Teesside that your prices are higher then they would tell us to Fu*k off to Birmingham and weigh off, it would cost more to drive there than what you make.
If the Environment Agency want to catch those people without a Waste Transfer Licence just camp outside your yard and check them as they are queuing up to weigh off.
This has got to be one of the best episodes I've seen so far! This guy needs to be a regular on the show :D

Got 8 radiators to scrap, is it worth getting my car dirty and scrapping myself? Or should I just leave out for the scrap man?

Most brake discs are made from cast iron, so therefore they are ferrous.

My scrap yard allows you to fill washer drums with bricks they don’t mind
