You aren't going deep enough. Israel used the cellphone network to detect, locate, track, and index Hezbollah members. Most people have no idea what kind of a shock this truly is until you realize what HEZ is.
HEZ isn't like a normal group of underground fighters that one will think of, they are a military force in their own right which has some top based infantry, artillery and recon and so on. They proven itself and improved heavily since joining other conflicts mostly in Syria and the IDF admit they are no joke and were the only real military threat they are actually worried about when comparing others.
HEZ is also know for their intel community which even the Israelis admit is a hard one to crack and have proven itself not to be taken likely and focus on counter intel.
Knowing what HEZ is when looking at this even makes it even more impressive with the context.
KD not sure if you will but you should cover the HEZ group more from a military sense objectively speaking HEZ is rather interesting and impressive.

A lot of next-step thinking went into this operation. I suspected the shipment was intercepted and the pagers modified, but I over-complicated what was done to the pages. This also explains how other devices were modified to be part of a later attack.

I did just a little bit of digging. It would seem they managed to get into the distribution and added a tiny amount of explosives directly to the battery and then used a phone-code to overheat the battery causing a primary explosion to set off the secondary explosive material. So, i was half-right. I should be in Intellegence. Im stupid good at just guessing what the other guy do. Lol

I don't think the Taiwanese company was involved. Sounds like this was an intercept operation. These devices were claimed to have gone to a Hungarian company. Likely the Hungarian company was spoofed (as they said they don't deal in pagers). I don't know if it was Israeli intelligence but sure sounds like their level of expertise. Damn clever op.

So, This has been going on for awhile. The IDF was actually using the cell phone location data to send drone strikes directly to militants phones in southern Lebanon a few months ago. That was the reason they order the older technology thinking they couldn’t be tracked. With pagers they could leave the phones off and just turn them on to make the call before powering down, or straight up using land lines and walkie-talkies….. Well, we know how well talk worked.
I really am curious on how they did this. I keep hearing different things. That Taiwan company actually didn’t make them and that it was subcontracted out. That subcontracted company was from Hungary but when they went there, it was just an apartment. So did Israel get the licensing rights and make them themselves?
