He basically told Abraham that that's Hollywood for you, that most of the actors in Hollywood have over-inflated egos, and that he'd be hard-pressed to find an actor in Hollywood that didn't have one, lol! So, he simply asked him to just give Edward James Olmos a chance. Fortunately, he did and the rest is history! The other girl was his first choice because she was identical to Selena. But at the end of the day Talent beats beauty and JLo did her thing.
People are always going to ask questions & want to talk about Selena with him, that's her father & the only thing he's ever been known for. Selena was the first time she ever got the lead role, it was what got her recognition. Then she started her music career not long after which increased her popularity. @@reinaldojoselugo2682 Maybe, maybe not. Neither you nor I know how JLo’s life would’ve turned out had she not starred in Selena. All we know are the facts. Starring in Selena jump started her acting career, she started getting more lead roles and starring in bigger films. Selena also partly inspired her music career. After filming Selena, JLo was feeling her Latin roots, and recorded a demo in Spanish. Which eventually made it’s way to Tommy Mottola, who later signed her to his label. Not too long after she recorded “On the 6”. Selena played a huge part in JLo’s career. As I said before JLo said numerous times how grateful she is for that role. Even today, she continues to talk about and honor Selena
jlo was a back up dancer back than the movie indeed made her who she is today and lets not forget all the fraud from her and tommy matola made her career

None of us outside of America/ Mexico would’ve known who she was if it weren’t for this movie. I’m from NZ & was 9 when her movie reached our waters. Been a fan since. God rest her soul.
JLO did a good job but I think the movie would’ve been a success regardless; Selena was turned into an icon at the time of her death, JLO got a huge jumpstart on her career due to it
Exactly! Many people didn't know Selena til the movie came out. JLo's portrayal was hair raising. No one else had the body and charisma to pull of Selena's role. It seems Abraham was worried about his quality of life when Selena died. He and the family saw the money was going to dry up, so they started working on the movie. She took care of her family and they had nothing. This is the price of fame. It's sad.
Selena’s dad/family won’t let Chris make a series about Selena. It’s almost as if Selena’s family doesn’t want us to see the other side of Selena. Where are her anxieties? The way the Quintanilla kids were raised... Selena most definitely had anxiety and was neglected. The happiest person is usually not happy on the inside.
Overall, it is much of The Mi Familia cast that ended up in Selena, notably, Edward James Olmos, Jennifer Lopez, Constance Marie, Jacob Vargas, Lupe Ontiveros, Seidy Lopez and Leon Singer. The movie was directed by Gregory Nava back in 1995 and would later direct the 1997 Selena film.

Just putting my two cents in...they were gonna make a movie regardless of the family being involved. But they (the family) wanted to tell the truth of how selena really was. They were already in the works of making 2 movies and adding false information. So technically it wasn't really the dads idea.

Yup. Just let her rest.
They always have
And I just found out that they started producing a Selena movie two weeks after her DEATH
If they don’t then some other person will.. it’s better if it stays in the family
The worst father. He heard the talent in his young daughters voice and only saw dollar signs. He didn't make it as a musician, so he made his kids do it.
That's so true! Honestly I never thought of it that way. He was living his dream through his kids and the group they formed.
He went as far as to showing this poor woman resting in her casket for the public.
The worst Father? I’ve seen worse. A lot worse, and say what you want about him being a stage dad. I’d sooner him then Joe Jackson.
Or, just or maybe he wanted a better life for them, a life he never had, a life they didn’t have to struggle as he did. He is a veteran after all
@chrisitl
I hate how judgmental he was. Like he treated everyone as if they weren’t good enough to be Selena. He was like that to everyone……….except the one person he should’ve kept his eye on the most…..Yolanda.
I honestly don’t like this man... 🤦♂️ did I really just say that.
andrew he doesn’t seem like a particularly warm person
It's okay. Me either
Yeah, he always gave me a bad vibe.
Well he profits off his daughter. Many people have said he was rude. And he also hates chris and sued him bc chris wrote a book about their marriage together. Abarham is a bad man and money hungry. Selena had to elope for gods sake to prove to her stubborn father. Hes still mad about it
I'm pretty sure if selena was here, she wouldn't like you, or the rest of these disrespectful people talking down on her dad either 🤡🤡
He seems so full of himself. So arrogant, like he’s the best.
Selena's Dad gets on my nerves... he is so arrogant and gross ugh I could just vomit listening to him speak... 🤮
Ikr?? He carries the latino crap too far
I really fell in love with Selena's mother in the SELENA movie with JLO & In the series she is everything I just love her
Covert narcissist
Then change the channel dodo
Arrogant AF. this man is so money Hungry.
I wonder how he would’ve reacted if finding out that Selena wanted to settle down and start a family, putting the singing stuff on hold.
You never met him
Really, Abaraham? Ruben Blades? He's way too handsome to ever play you.
🤣
Lol!! Yes!
😂😂
🤣
Totally agree!! Like really ?? The movie was not about him!!! It was about his daughter and this man was looking for some handsome actor to play him what a joke!
I met him in person In 2013, i ran into him while I visited Selenas Museum. i told him i was Selena's biggest Fan I drove all the way from California to Texas. He was super rude he didn't say not one word to me and gave me a dirty look and I asked for a picture with him in front of Selena's Grammy & I put my arm around him and he moved back as if he didn't want to take a picture or be touched super Akward! I still Love you my Idol SELENA No Disrespect I was there for you not him.
The woman that killed her was her "biggest fan" too remember. That's how the fan club was started. Not saying he isn't rude but he's probably hesitant to trust strangers after what happened to her.
@Gc Navejar well then I guess he shouldn’t have been there representing his daughter because she loved her fans and didn’t mind it,but it’s ok to put his arm around other people he didn’t know he took a picture with my cousin at the tejano awards and didn’t know him. I swear some people are dumb as hell.
He’s just an awful person overall
Everyone goes to museum and uses that phrase- you were probably too aggressive. One couple was from Ohio so he gave everyone who was there a secret tour upstairs that lasted 45 minutes. He let them ask any questions- they asked about the ring. He threw it in Corpus Christi bay. He was nice but he gets that a lot. They usually are there in the museum but don’t like people to grab on them, that happens a lot too.
Your is not important nor moving
This interview makes me not like him..He sounds extremely arrogant..
@I miss my cat And neither do you . You know what you hear 👂 that is all . You know just as much as the rest of us do so stop speaking as if you slept over their house at some point or as of Selena told you all these things smh
I Agree He's a bitter Man No Wonder Selena Went Behind His Back. & Eloped With Chris
@I miss my cat I read Chris Perez book Selena would have her breakdown moments thanks to her father and also anxiety attacks thanks to him that tells you everything! Poor Selena
@@LEGENDPantherJennings I agree. I even think at times Selena was actually afraid of him and what he would say which was most likely no to her and Chris getting married. That's obviously why she did it. Also I feel Selena didn't have control over her career so this was a way of showing her independence and "breaking out" so to speak. I don't care what anyone says Abraham was and is very controlling and arrogant
@I miss my cat Relax
This man should get a grip on life and let his daughter Rest In Peace at last. How long does he plan to milk her memory besides JLO did a spectacular job bringing Selena to the big screen
Mr.Q had no knowledge of what a great actor James olmos is. He didn’t like Mr.Olmos because he wouldn’t listen ? That just tells you how controlling this man is.
I was waiting for someone to say that 🙏
You gotta understand, these two men are from the same generation. They’re stubborn and very old school. In the end, Olmos was a great pick.
Yes he is
Edward got scared making american me maybe thats y he didn't want edward
He's still living off her to this day
He still hasn’t stopped making money off of her. Evil
How is the family supposed to make money after she died 🤔 I mean her museum is going to pay for it self lol.
Seems very unlike able. Ive heard hes a jerk to the people at the Selena museum
The Netflix series looks very wack I’m sorry 😣
Lol!! Very whack.
AGREED!
Facts
Totally agree!! And you know the Quintanilla family will never tell the real story. Selena’s dad was so controlling of her in every aspect of her life. They will not show how he would make her cry and pressure her she would get anxiety attacks thanks to her father. I read Chris Peres book and damn I felt sorry for Selena.
Agree
Ive never really been a fan of the father
Honestly, this man is a jerk and I feel sooo bad for all of his kids. They had such a huge responsibility from such an early age to make sure their Dad got that early retirement. They must’ve had so much anxiety through their teen years.
@TheDelb4
I mean, Abraham did play a big role in a lot of things. Like if it weren’t for him, the world wouldn’t have Selena to look up to. Their whole family would’ve also been struggling to find work and put food on the table. Music became their way of making a living after the economy crashed, forcing them to move to Selena’s uncle’s crowded house.
He's just being honest I don't know why people are annoyed with him.He even said that Jennifer Lopez did a great job.
Maybe because he’s a money hog that uses his daughters name for money and profit
People don't like him because he was an abusive father. He pushed those kids so hard to gain the fame he never could with his band Los Dinos....Happens all the time. I think its because he comes off as Narcissistic also.
And then said look at where she is now.... like she should be thanking him..smh
Have you not watched the movie ? Have you not watched the interviews? This man is full of himself
Thank you I agree
Jlo didn't win a golden globe, she was nominated. Helen Hunt won.
In her own right Helen Hunt is a GREAT Actress 👍👍🤔🙌
Thats what she said... she didn't say she won
@@yolandaperez7009 I really liked Helen Hunt back in the day , but i guess they don't like people who prefer to grow old without surgery in Hollywood..
Of course Helen Hunt won. Who ever that is lol sorry just don’t know her. Jennifer Lopez didn’t have a chance against a white woman; especially around that time. White America 🇺🇸 at its finest.

Edward Olmos and Jennifer Lopez were already somebody before taking this role. You did not discover or do wonders for them in telling your daughter's story
Not Jennifer Lopez.
@@olgacantu4179 Jennifer was already famous at that point. She just wasn’t huge huge
@@datnigga9169 Not at all. She was just known as someone that was on the money train
@@olgacantu4179 she was one of the main characters in 3 movies before Selena. She was also known as a beautiful actres with a bright future in 95. With or without Selena she would of gotten as famous as she is now
@@datnigga9169 those movies aren’t even know today. Yea everybody gets that “bright future title” without Selena she wouldn’t had been where she is now 100% Selena was huge when she died everyone knew who Jennifer was after that movie
So in other words JLo wasn’t the first choice because she didn’t look like Selena but in terms of skills and acting JLo had that 100% down because she’s always been talented. The other girl was his first choice because she was identical to Selena. But at the end of the day Talent beats beauty and JLo did her thing.
Technically when they are doing biopics they normally go for a person who look more like the person the movie is about . That common sense!
@MD-iw9te
I don’t care what anyone says! Jlo was amazing in this. She put her heart, soul, blood, sweat, and tears into this role.
I think the cast did a really good job sharing Selena’s story in this movie.
I love James olmos he’s such a great actor 🎭♥️
Hahahahaha typical hispanic parent, "He doesnt listen" 🤣🤣💀😭
Tipical latino
Lmbo. Yup!
Mr. Quintanilla is the Mexican Brittney Spears dad
I know so similar
Omg yu
The old man still exploiting his daughter even after death.
Well what else do people wanna talk to him about
People are always going to ask questions & want to talk about Selena with him, that's her father & the only thing he's ever been known for. Plus with the public's extremely hungry appetite of still wanting to learn more about her (more so with this upcoming younger generation) he's never going to be able to turn it off by no means because Selena's obviously never going to be forgotten by anyone even after she's been gone now longer than she was even alive. I personally think Selena's watching over her family & making sure they're being taken care of.
He was her manager and if he didn’t run her legacy who would? A random person REALLY exploiting her?
lmao you’re clearly not a true Selena fan
I don't understand that attitude at all. She was his daughter. How is he exploiting her?
JLo had started her career before the Selena movie he makes it seem like thanks to him she made it Sr your wrong 😑
Actually, he’s not entirely wrong. Yes J Lo had started her career before the Selena movie, but she only had minor roles in films and television . Selena was the first time she ever got the lead role, it was what got her recognition. Then she started her music career not long after which increased her popularity. Say what you want, but J Lo owes a lot of her fame to Selena. J Lo herself has even acknowledge this.
@@TejanoBarrera JLO was destine to be a superstar with or without Selena .Selena was a step in stone.
the movie is what got jlo to blow up
@@reinaldojoselugo2682 Maybe, maybe not.
The aim was to turn her into a huge international super star, & her father got her there even after her death with this movie. None of us outside of America/ Mexico would’ve known who she was if it weren’t for this movie. I’m from NZ & was 9 when her movie reached our waters. Been a fan since. God rest her soul.
Ruben Blades was too good looking to portray Abraham, lol.
Sounds like he would have made two bad choices, if it were up to him. So arrogant
I love Reuben Blades but he looked nothing like Abraham
I feel that if Jennifer hadn’t done the film, Selena the movie wouldn’t be such a staple and Selena memory would’ve been very bland
JLO did a good job but I think the movie would’ve been a success regardless; Selena was turned into an icon at the time of her death, JLO got a huge jumpstart on her career due to it
Wrong about the memory
Exactly! Many people didn't know Selena til the movie came out. JLo's portrayal was hair raising. No one else had the body and charisma to pull of Selena's role. Plus JLo already had an acting career and was coming up like foam just like Selena was in the music industry. People just want to envy her for doing such an excellent job, oh, and because she wasn't Mexican. Should've started with that one. Lol
@@Diaz08 Mexicans were in there feelings because JLo was Puerto Rican playing a Chicana tejano artist by Selena

He probably wanted Charlie Sheen or Tom Cruz to portray him lol
Yes, money hungry. I seen suzette two years ago at the Como la flor festival, she seems tired. Living in the shadow of her sister trying to get every penny for her dad still.
Why was it his choice? And btw the new Netflix series looks like the bootleg swap meet version of the movie

You can tell this guy is a control freak. Always has to have his way and if anyone doesn’t do what he says, He wants them gone.
Prediction- Selena if alive , would have fired her dad. There
Lol heck no. Their dad might be tough but he fought for his family
Eventually, yes. I agree. She would’ve wanted to blossom as a woman, wife, and maybe a mom. Her dad was too overbearing.
Didn't Beyoncé do that? I feel like if Britney Spears could go back she'd do the same.
I just wanna know who he was talking about
I wonder if Mr.quintanilla is talking about Melissa Sanchez that looks exactly as selena but doesn't have acting experience, her instagram is @msb_2016, she was a selena impersonator from the 90s and she did audition to play selena and made it to the final round with jlo.

Edward and JLo made a legendary movie ....I'm a 40 year old made and if I come across it while channel flipping ill sit-down and watch it
Anybody wonder who the woman was that he liked to play Selena?

Its HARDDDDDDD. Lol best line from Abraham ever 🤣
