Exactly. The same thing happened to me after the buzz cut. It just takes enormous amonut of time to get to the eyebrow lenght. Currently at the mouth lenght after 13 months.

to get long hair, you Stop cutting it. Trimming just discourages you and prolongs the awkward stage. The awkward stage is Inevitable , just gut through it.

i disagree. you can grow out from a long hair disconnected undercut and it will look pretty good even with shaved hair grown to 4 inches or so

He looks good after the trim. My hairline is similar and I'm trying to grow my hair out. It's most awkward when it's too short to put behind your ears but too long to wear as a fringe.
2nd dude looked WAY BETTER before the trim... This barber gave him a complete farm-job, guy looking like he got a total bob-cut from medieval times.
I havent cut my hair since May 2013. Not even a trim, and I'm alive to tell the tale. No barber or hairdresser is ever going to tell you not to trim your hair while growing your hair long because its NOT GOOD FOR BUSINESS. You'll get all kinds of warnings and horror stories about what might happen if you dont trim your hair but... its BS.

your not meant to cut it, you just trim the split end areas every 4 to 6 months, if your hair doesn't have split ends then don't go for the trim, its simple.

I "trimmed" my hair in April, it is now November. I am finally back to where I was in April before I got my haircut. They do it every fucking time. DO NOT GO IN FOR A TRIM.
Ben H SAME. I actually did go again, but before she cut anything, she put the scissors in a certain spot and I kept on saying less and less for the amount to be cut until it was so little that if she were to try to cut any less, she would cut her fingers.

I don't know if anyone else has experienced this, but it is a trend I have noticed ever since I started this adventure. It seems that with the majority of salons I go to, the stylists don't really listen to what you are asking them to do. For example, I tell the stylist that I am growing my hair out and just want to keep the back trimmed until the front catches up. Nothing else.Then they start asking if they can thin my hair out because it is so thick. Seriously!? It is so frustrating when you ask for what you are looking for and no one listens. I understand that stylists want to make a living. I guarantee that you will go a lot farther when you simply do what the client wants. Just curious, how many stylists do you guys go through until you find one that you jive with?

There’s not even an awkward stage. It’s just a different hair length called long medium (in the sense that it’s long for medium hair), or medium-Long hair.

He made the mistake of allowing a woman to style it - when growing it out, you never cut the back while letting the top grow out - that just creates a ‘bob’, which is more of a feminine style...
But she just but the upper part of t back a bit, and maybe very slightly in the bottom part, but after this, he’s probably growing out the back and she did say that she made the front shorter so that it would be even with the back.

I have been struggling with this (to me ) awkward stage and my stylist said this ...."Your doing so good, if you trim it now, your not getting out of the awkward stage your only prolonging it" and I ran far far away.
We need an update of these guys and where their hair length is at now. Considering they kept it growing.

I have had long hair a few different times in my life.
Currently I'm on 7 years of growth.
BUT, against all the advise, I went to my hairdresser every month to 6 weeks to get a trim.
Now my hair is almost to my nipples and well to be honest I have chopped big sections off at times.
I also get regular foils, normally Blonde and Black stripes.
For me getting through the awkward stage meant wearing sunnies a lot, using them as a head band I guess.
I don't really wear hats though.
Interesting thing is my father often said "maybe you should cut your hair, you'll get a job."
My attitude was this is me, like it or not. My mum was far more understanding, realising that having long hair wasn't all bad.
The key is knowing what you want, how to achieve it.
Now I have a pretty good job, I talk to the ladies in the office about hair issues, and generally love being a long haired guy.
I while ago one of the nice ladies came to me and said your hair is really really dry.
To me it was always like that.
So, I asked my hairdresser for some treatment, which now is a leave in conditioner.
Now it's far better to manage and the overall look is far better.
This channel is super.
I just found out that I should be using ‘leave in conditioner’, which I’ve never ever used in my life otherwise, with oil added afterwards.
My hair has just reached the bottom of my earlobes.
Stick to it, it pays off after a while! I've been growing my hair for 3 years now!

I had fried mine with a straightener and the split ends were traveling faster up my hair than my hair grows

@@nabranestwistypuzzler7019 this was one of the reasons I grew my hair but actually long hair is more maintenance than short hair. Bed head for long hair is so much worse, you have to do something about it, compared to short hair when you can get away with it.
Zain Siddiqi Mine is medium, and I just comb it back in a minute or 2, which is the same as short hair, so I guess it doesn’t become bad until it’s long.

It is so refreshing to see a stylist who wants to help guys reach their hair goals. Too many just chop away and do no favors for the guys. Here we had practical advice, the health and shape of the hair as factors in the cut, and nice results which will grow out well.
Was part of the Longhairs up till the previous April when I went all the way down to a half inch to donate the hair. On my way back and still looking forward to being a part of the gang again. Just have to work on training that hair back...

Two months ago I cut my waist length hair for many reasons, including maintenance. Ended up cutting way too much and now I have to live with an awkward bob type thing. Four years ago I swore I'd never take myself to the awkward stage again and yet here I am back at square one. Never going to cut my hair again.
Waist length. Man. And I thought my kurt cobains hair due was long.

This is helpful. My hair is getting quite long but is very uneven. I am going to do research into a skilled stylist to help me out.
I'm going through this right now. I've done this once before. Just have to power through. Wear a hat when you're in public lol that's pretty well all you can do. Trimming honestly just slows the process down. Just power through man.

Just grow your hair to your desired length; then get rid of the split ends.
Know what you are looking for, if your growing your hair out, you don’t need a trim every 3 months.
speaking from experience here, I've tried growing out my hair for a year without trimming the ends and it was so unhealthy and alot less thick than what I have now. i dont recommend doing this because the ends could split and tear all the way through, in some cases unevening out your hair

Thank God my hair is on the curly, puffy side. Awkward stage was so much easier for me to deal with. I only just got out of the awkward stage tho. Cant wait until i can pull my all my hair back!

The real trick is finding a stylist this knowledgeable. Impressive skill she has!
The biggest issue is if you’re growing your hair out as a guy and you go in to get a trim theyll usually cut a bunch of it off. You need to just let your hair grow all over until it gets past the “awkward” stage and then trim. Yes it’s good to get trims but if you go in and someone cuts an inch off your hair that’s just more growing that has to be done. Especially if you have curly hair you just have to tough it out.
Don't trim your hair through the awkward stage, just grow it out till it's long then trim it and clean it up abit

3rd guy is any guy who's ever had their haircut ever lol
I just powered through it, I did the "beiber" haircut and let it grow from there. I was working job in a kitchen at the time so I had to keep it in a hairnet anyways so it was not as big a problem for me. I was able to get it into a short ponytail by the time I changed jobs and after I got to the collar bones I started cutting out the layers. the pic of me in my profile here is older. those layers are now gone and im at a solid uniform length at the nipple line.
