Vietnam was originally inhabited by cultures that believed to be descended from the marriage between two entities: the Dragon King and the Goddess Godmother. At least until when they succumbed to the might of the Chinese dynasties, from 111 BC.
But in 938 Ngo Quyen defeated the Chinese armies, and the guy proclaimed himself emperor of the new Vietnamese state. The 15th century represented the maximum feudal splendor, with the government of Le Thanh Tong. Over time they managed to conquer the Kingdom of Champa and part of the Khmer Empire. But not everything was perfection since in the end there were certain internal conflicts that led to a political imbalance.
It is then that power is divided between two "lords" (rulers): the Trinh lords and the Nguyen lords. The latter, taking advantage of the arrival of the French, managed to seize power. *But this also obviously meant the entry of the French to power

The Vietnamese, who wanted independence, did not like this very much. So, along with other countries, they fought in what is called the *First Indochina War* (1945-1954). This, however, fragmented Vietnam into two parts: North Vietnam and South Vietnam.
The point is that North Vietnam was communist, and everyone knows that the United States was not interested in countries with communist ideals. So he decided to intervene, commanding machinery of war, which ended in the Tokin Gulf Incident. This would start the famous *Vietnam War* (1955-1975). Between 1973 and 1975 they make a peace agreement and take South Vietnam, thus reuniting the country.
And since the country had won, communist politics remained in place. Recently it is one of the countries with the highest economic growth.

Vietnam is currently working with reforms that westernize the country. Vietnam is better than china too in terms if social liberties. (During WW2 Vietnam had skirmishes against the Japanese occupation which followed in a “victory” which was cut short to the french reoccupying. Shortly after the Vietnam war china and vietnam had a war known as the Sino-Vietnamese war. Vietnam won.) fun fact, they fought in WW1 as a french foreign legion in Verdun against the germans.
