Interested in any thoughts on the counterexamples often given to the coordinate structure constraint in sentences like, "What did John go to the store and buy ____?" or "How much can you drink ___ and still stay sober?"
I have a question about a sentence "what did i wonder who saw ___?" You said that the Spec-CP is already occupied when "what" in object. Do you think it is possible for "who" to move up to the Spec-CP? Like Who did i wonder __ saw what? I'm not a native English speaker, so I cannot tell whether it is grammatical or not, but I think it is not grammatical, but i do not explain.
in the adjunct island *who(m) Jane is mad because Jeff dated ___? I think the who can't move bc it already has accusative case from the V dated, right? so if it moves to specTP it would be double case licensed
Whats more interesting is that WH words (like pronouns) actually, unlike what traditional grammar says, do not replace nouns alone, but whole noun phrases. Always. Thats why that pot would never become that what that big pot woul never be that big what.
Thank you for the series of videos. They are really helpful. 🙂
Not that it is important here but at 8:06 [I eat popcorn] is shown as VP. Isn't it a TP? Shouldn't the VP be only [eat popcorn]?
Thank you so much for this! You explain things really clearly so I can finally understand islands :)

It's hard to find answers to questions from my syntax homework, but I found the answer here unexpectedly!
Actually, they cover things like this in Basic Syntax, though the book doesnt describe them well and the teacher has no idea how to teach this.
3:59 Does this have to do with pied-piping theory? It's part of my diploma thesis and I'm so confused

What do you mean by cyclic?

You stupid moron. Do you seriously believe that's a grammatical sentence? Good Lord
James Brown she is not a native speaker. Native speakers make mistakes. Don’t you expect nonnative speakers make mistakes too????
