- South African musician Johnny Clegg shares his thoughts on Nelson Mandela and reveals personal experiences he has shared with the icon. This interview was done for the News24 Nelson Mandela media centre - a special project for Mandela's 90th birthday.
Johnny Clegg is simply amazing; be it as international musical statesman, White Zulu, Honorary PhD at University of KwaZulu-Natal South Africa, or simply Good Guy, the man has singlehandedly brought down global treasure troves of compassion, dignity and mutual empathy across seemingly impossible wastelands of intolerance. He has lifted us into the 21st century and beyond. I'm proud to be human. Thanks Johnny Clegg and Savuka, IC
Beautiful interview with a beautiful guy! Thank you so much for sharing and up to us to carry on the work of loving Thy Neighbor. God bless all from Patrick
Thanks for all your effort and contribution for the betterment of humankind.
It's so true what he says, I grew up through the 70s and 80s, we heard this name Mandela a lot but we had no idea what he looked like. The only photos I'd ever seen were the one shown here and another of him wearing boxing gloves in a fighters pose. That was the picture I had of him in my head and what I expected to see when he was released. I was shocked at the old man who walked out of prison. It hit home how much of his life had been stolen!
Thank you johnny and THANK YOU MADIBA we miss you 🌹
Am reading "Long Walk to Freedom" for second time & enjoying it so much more... hindsight is always wonderfully clarifying ... so much water underneath the bridge...
Mans inhumanity to his fellow man...
Gorgeous, thanks for this marvelous video.
RIP Johnny Clegg 👍👍👍
Rip Johnny ❤️.
We'd come from Rhodesia to Cape Town... on a wall in the neighbourhood in huge letters was "FREE MANDELA"... I often wondered who this was until we moved to Blaauwbergstrand & Pommy friends of ours told us about Robben Island and it's occupants... to the left of us a house down, lived an Anglican priest & his family (one son's name was Luke, other was Mathew I think) he was deported whilst we were there... it was 1963/4... Nazis were growing stronger and times they were a'changing...
Whats the name of the song thats played whenever one of the questions come up
Nelson Mandela (Madiba) was good to you Johnny Clegg but Julius Malema will NOT be so.
